You know I did not even think of that. I didn't see the pictures. Why would you need a survey crew. Its not like they are looking at property lines or something.
Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved
Let's not forget last year when everybody got all excited about construction in that area and it ended up being a building to store Halloweekends stuff. I'd like to think differently, especially since there's actually alot of land right there to work with, but it's too early to tell. I'd like to see the DT/WT Midway updated (i.e. DT being moved, bombed, pulverated or majorly updated) before something back there, just to keep traffic flow more even between the front and the back of the park. I like being able to head to the back of the park first thing in the morning to beat the crowds and then do the front early afternoon while everybody else is in the back. I think one more major ride back there and the traffic flow will change.
Perhaps. Of course adding another ride in the vicinity of MS would help to get more people to ride that one. I feel that unless somebody really knows their way around, it may be hard to find MS. I know the general public cannot be trusted to do things such as read signs or maps to find it, and I've heard some people call it Gemini, not realizing that Gemini and MS are not the same ride. I'm not sure what they think Gemini is, but.....
It's too bad this story is likely BS, because I'd be happy to see MS go. It's a painful SOB. I can go jump off my roof and land flat on my back and get the same results.
It seems like a waste of space and maintenance to give a limited number of rides to woody enthusiasts. I can understand their appreciation for wooden coasters, but I don't think nostalgia for obsolete track design is worth the beating.
I thought that Maverick brought alot of people to the back area of the park enough. On halloweekends mean streaks line becomes nearly full when the weather is nice and every one goes to the park. Some people like mean streak as their favorite coaster and ride it all the time. Now, I'm not saying that I like it as my favorite, my favorites are Millennium and Maverick.
I was there on June 4th, and I saw a few pieces of wood sitting behind "Boneville" while I was riding the train. In May they were cutting some limbs off the trees at the same places too while I was walking to ride the Mean Steak.
Mean Streak provides a few good jolts, I won't argue that. But..I've never got off the ride and said, "gee...I wish I wouldn't have ridden it." I don't choose to ride it more than once per trip but I would name a lot of CP coasters I would skip before skipping that one:
Disaster Transport, Wild Cat, Wicked Twister, TTD (if there is a considerable line) and Mantis would all be skipped before I skipped Mean Streak.
Mean Streak isn't any rougher than Gwazi and I don't hear people calling for Gwazi to be torn down.

What's also hilarious about this whole thing is that everyone forgot the statement Kinzel made not too long ago about the "balance sheet" and how, at least for the next two-three years they were not considering major additions...for some odd and inexplicable reason, they have this weird debt to deal with first...(from the Associated Press article in the News section)
Land surveyors are not uncommon at the park, and they've been in lots of areas that to this day, have not seen anything new..while it is always possible something might be done down the road, I just don't see a major addition coming, especially not in place of MS.
It seems the park's focus is shifting to kids (Planet Snoopy), and ramping up their live entertainment, as well as Halloweekends. I'd say thats a great way to go right now...I don't think the park is hurting in the ride department.
Edited for wrong article reference. Still the same point though.

My interpretation of that article was that we wouldn't be seeing anything until at least 2010, which is the year referenced for the ordering of new rollercoasters...but his statements regarding a tight balance sheet would lead me to believe they'd like to pay down their debt a little..hence their focus on the smaller family venues and live entertainment..

I did say that was in the news section, by the way. Not hard to find.

I agree with DJ, I read that as meaning chain expansion rather than adding new coasters at Cedar Point. It doesn't make much sense to say they want to pay off debt, so they aren't going to build anything at CP, but are going to put in 5* new coasters in the other parks.

Yeah, thanks. But perhaps you should have noted the correct news source:

And anyhow, it seems pretty clear to me that he's not referring to rides. He's saying that they're not going to be adding major additions, such as parks, hotels and the like, until they deal with some or all of the Paramount debt.
These kind of discussions make me laugh. "This is happening" or "This is being torn down", etc. It's kind of like spoilers for TV shows. Why is it so important to find out things that are going to (or hope to) happen before they actually do?
Let's say that Mean Streak is going to be torn down and replaced. So what? We'll all get to ride whatever they decide to put there when it's built and not before.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Just had to get that off my chest.
I'm not sure, but I don't think you're using the soapbox correctly . . .
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
If I were to get on my soapbox, it would be for the fact that we are on the 3rd page of replies to a first-time poster of very ficticious sounding information. I honestly can't believe this post has survived this long...and that the original poster has yet to post a reply...IMO, it reeks of trolling.

C'mon, you've been around here long enough to know that its always the most asinine threads that stick around for a while.
