^why do that when it would cost the same amount of money to build a completly new ride by Gravity Group. :)
quote from Mean Streak operator, "Welcome to Mean Streak. It's so mean it'll rip the heads off your Barbie dolls and steal your lunch money!!!"
After riding Son of Beast this weekend, I'd say that something really needs to be done with this ride...what a joke.
Hehe, I'd say Son of Beast is a joke too. One good drop and...helices?

Please accept my appologies if some of this has been mentioned previously, this is a long thread and I will keep my comments brief.
Evening of July 23, MS was a walk on. CCMR had a 45 minute wait notice posted (never saw that in a long time!).
Rode MS. Great ride if you like scrambled brains before bed. Not fun at all. This mediocre ride will scrare off potential TTD and MF riders that think it is a graduation rite to get to the new "uber rides" due to it's very rough ride. Even the ride ops were making fun of the ride as they took a train off the rails for the night and created a short wait for the 6 of us in line.
MS structure repairs. Take a ride down Perimeter Rd. and have a look at the recent repairs on the ride structure, wooden beams have been replace with steel i beams, is this a temporary or permanent repair, if permanent, is the ride is destined to become all steel? (no answer to that please).
Anyway, given the location of MS, lack of traffic in the area, apparent lack of ridership, valuable space it uses up, etc., etc., I would not be surprised to see something better for the spot in the future.
It certainly is mediocre, but it also had more riders last year than Mine Ride (link). This is mainly because Mine Ride has a more complicated lap bar check and doesn't run at capacity very often.
All the facts are there that someday this thing will be replaced with something else, but the key word here is someday. Right now I don't think we're anywhere near that day because they would not be able to get sufficient return on investment like they would by building something somewhere else. The year they build a new wooden coaster is the day we get closer to being Mean Streak-less.

I rode the Mean Streak for the first time last week! I enjoyed the ride! It wasn't as rough as many had told me it would be. I know the Villian at Geauga Lake was one of my favorite coasters! It gave you a wild ride! I hope maybe instead of just tearing down the ride maybe they can overhall it! I know the Villian had some work done before the 2007 season and it was the best thing they did. That ride was becoming so rough that I didn't ride it much for the 2005 plus 2006 season. I hope they will do something with the Blue Streak. I do love Steel coasters, but I also love wood coasters!
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
Actually, from what I've heard...Dick has been seen with some GCI folks around the area. Which could mean a re-tracking or possible new woodie in its place. I'd say bets are for a re-tracking, though that's been done in the past and I'd personally LOVE to see a new woodie in the likes of Lightning Racer or Thunderhead (GCI) or El Toro (Intamin).
And to those that question such a huge investment and compare it to Maverick...it costs nothing close to a steel coaster. Kinzel was quoted himself saying the HUGE cost of steel nowadays, and that woodies are FAR less (like 2 or 3 million, compared to 25 million). For a park that only has 2 woodies, and considering MS's dismal state and hordes of trim brakes these days, I'd say a woodie is the perfect investment. Either significantly alter and restore MS to it's former, fast self...or (my vote) rip it down and build a new one the right way!!

Ride on, MrScott!
I have rode son of beast before and after the reconstruction and believe
the ride is much better now. If gci is being hired to re-do mean streak-
how many people think they can bring the coaster back to the early
days or would it be better just to build a new coaster?
MS is not completely beyond repair. Why tear the whole thing down. Spend 1M and have GCI rebuild and retrack the ride and bring it back to life. Better than spending 2-3 times that to build a new woodie. It was a sweet ride back in its first year. It wasn't boring before it was altered.
Blue people fly sideways when it rains
Like I said way back in June when rumors of MS were going around, Kinzel has an ego. Mean Streak has been a major coaster built during in his time in office. It will not go anywhere, overhauled is way more likely.
I know SS shoots at fishies in barrels, but it really does make sense. Look at the facts, and you must admit it is at least a possibility;
1). They put in a new sign. It's obviously not going anywhere.
2). Frontier Town has recieved SO much attention the past few seasons, it makes sense to bring back Mean Streak's glory.
3). Kinzel did himself say that GCII coming in was a possibility. Why would he just say that?
It's not far fetched by any stretch of the imagination.
Promoter of fog.
Has anybody heard anything when an announcement will be made for Cedar Point's 2009? I'm anxious to hear if something will happen for Mean Streak like GCI being involved and re-tracking. I'm also hoping that 2009 is the year that Cedar Point gives Millennium Force it's much needed paint job.
No announcement about any announcement has been made yet.
