Maverick Track Replacement

I agree with halltd, just because we weren't told until then (May 8), doesn't mean they didn't know about it before then, or weren't taking precautionary measures (i.e. planning a replacement element) before then.

The Red Cross site has also updated their information, and posted the new cutoff date for bidding as this Thursday, May 24. Although they don't have the date for the actual ride, the cutoff date suggests the ride will be open very soon!

How's our bidding going?

As of Walt's last update on 5/17, we were at $2,277.09, well above the top bids listed on the red cross page.

halltd, fully stand by my earlier statements. There's no way the design of the track and supports was started on May 8. But, I won't get into that discussion again. I just stand by what I said.

I agree with you fully.

Damn! I was just at the park and didn't go over by Maverick! Now I'm kicking myself!!!

I guess Maverick will replace TTD for Joe Cool Club early ride, once it opens?

And I'll stand by the fact that you're wrong, and that my friends are not liars. They had no reason to deceive anyone.

Why is it so hard to believe that they can't crank out a few track sections in a plant that puts out thousands of track sections in any given year? Or that it landed in New York yesterday morning?

Because, Jeff, he's an engineer. And engineers are smarter than everyone else. Combined.

I'm hoping you are being sarcastic. I'm in class for engineering and architecture and I can assure you. They are NOT smarter than everyone else combined.

I never called anyone at Cedar Point a liar, Jeff. But, thanks for trying to make it look like I did - AGAIN. If you look at all the press releases and even what Tony said in podcast, no one ever mentioned the design started on the 7th or 8th of May. They all merely said the "decision was made late in the game to not open the ride" - I'm paraphrasing just to be clear. They never once said when the design of the replacement pieces was started or when they first thought there might be an issue. I also never said the track didn't just show up yesterday - did I? Nope, didn't think so. I have complete faith that everything CP has told us has been the truth.

However, there's a huge difference between lying and giving "PR friendly" answers to the public. As I've said like a bazillion times before after you accused me of saying the park was lying to us, I don't think the park has done anything deceitful. Nor do I blame them for anything. Mistakes happen and they get fixed.

What I am saying is the enthusiasts (including yourself) are naive if they think the first phone call from CP to Intamin about the heartline issue occurred on Monday, May 7th.

^^ And I can assure you, he WAS being sarcastic.

Oh don't worry, those in your class that aren't that smart won't be there long. They'll eventually go to the business school and become managers.

Where did anyone say that? They probably knew about the problem for some time, but the final (and hardest) decision; to take out the heartline roll and replace it with something else, could have been made by then. And I think it had top priority at the Intamin plant from that point. I don't see how that's hard to believe?

Obviously no one remembers Tony saying that by the time they made the announcement the new track was already designed.

Jeff seems to have forgotten that part. If you look back to my very first statement on this topic, I said the exact same thing I'm saying now. Jeff (and others) are the ones claiming the park only discovered the issue that Monday. He thinks by me saying they knew of the issue earlier is me saying they were trying to cover up a big conspiracy which is just ludicrous.

Oh, so now that you've been called out on the speed of fabrication, now it's that they did the design well in advance.

Whatever makes you feel right and warm and fuzzy inside.

"You can't fabricate new track and get it to CP and open a coaster in a month. That's just not possible."

"If Intamin has no fabrication facility in the US - and aren't using an outside vendor, I have even less faith that process can be done in a month."

I'm glad your extensive construction experience has served you so well.
