Maverick Rocks!!!!

^..Maverick was 20 mins.?..i doubt that..

I was replying to an earlier question, this thread has said numerous times that Mavrick was 2 hours most of the day, someone asked what the waits were on other rides to compare.

I was at the park yesterday and this morning and got to ride Maverick 3 times. I thought the ride was outstanding. I got to ride the front and back seat. I thought the back seat was the best. You get major airtime thoughout the ride. The ride feels extemely fast no matter where you ride.

I don't know if its been discussed yet or not, but I thought I would point this out.

As far as a single rider line, tonight (from 8:00 on at least) they would have an employee come down the other (closed) side of the steps leading into the station and yell for single riders that are in the old White Water Landing station area, and then they just take you out of wherever you are in line and lead you up the steps into the station and wait there for another single rider (or odd numbered group).

It would definitely work better to just have a single rider line, but hey it cut at least 30 minutes off my wait tonight :)

What are water bombs?

The "water bombs" are simply an effect involving water that shoots up on either side of the track over the pond as the train passes through this portion of the ride. They are located right before the S-curve that replaced the heartline roll. Im not sure if this is their technical name, but this is what T&T called them in the blog.

I think someone else used this pic in a different thread as an example of what they may look like:

What's life if you never get to the Point?

Mavvie - 164
Draggie - 306 (5 rollbacks!!)

Im glad to hear that everyone liked Mav but for the rest of us...Where are all the pics and videos!?Were the water bombs working today?

No water bombs today. It was down around 1:20 to transfer off a train, but was down for less than 20 minutes. It ran pretty well all day. The line never exceeded an hour and a half, and at times was under an hour.

When I rode the ride first thing this morning the water bombs were not working. When I rode on Saturday night I got hit by water by the new s curve but I am not sure where it came from.

That would be from the fountain that shoots over the canyon/s-curve.

I always thought that thing looks pretty neat. Are the water canyons on both sides of the track, or just on one?

Thrills Around the Corner!

I rode for the first time today and it was PHENOMENAL! we wanted to wait for front seat but the girl made us get in line for the second but let us cut the people before us. from the minute we shot up the hill it was nonstop adreneline. everything was great...the first drop, the quick transitions, and the launch! i think the lights at the end of the launch are the coolest effect of the ride.

it seems funny though. were used to these huge and tall coasters but everything on maverick seemed small. it was funny how fast you go through all these small elements. you fly through every element. my only complaint is the 3rd canyon...of what was the heartline roll. it was probably the least exciting part of the ride. overall it was excellent. were going again tomorrow morning and gonna get the front seat...it might be my new favorite ride

This year:
Maverick: 5
MF: 4
TTD: 2
Skyhawk: 5

I rode Maverick on Sunday morning and was ticket #0107. It's an awesome nonstop ride with great pacing---actually it has only one pace ---fast. First hill and lift- Great ...Airtime hill---beyond belief...Horseshoe roll- fun and rare mid corse inversions. Tunnel--- OK, I saw the lights but there was no smoke--- pretty short though.. S-curve.... over hyped-- I wish the heartline roll were still there, but the ride doesn't need it to be a success. Stengel dive thing after S curve.. no big deal. The big stengel dive... Great Element! New and Fun... Last air time pop hill...Pretty good......Overall this is a graet coaster that may set the standard for non mega coasters in the future....Also note, the theming didn't really make to big a difference because of the speed that you are flying by, but it does serve a pupose. The view when you are in the station and on the main lift are OUTSTNDING.

Finally, Was anyone else at the SC gate on Sunday AM.? It was chaos.. At 8:45 the gate opened to let us in to the JC checkpoint gate. There were only 2 employees there ready to check IDs. At 8:55 about 300-400 people waiting with us saw everyone running past from the Main Gate, which must have opened early or something... Consequently, everyone went nuts and the 2 employees just threw the gates open and the stampede was on. I saw 2 people fall and a few cell phones being kicked across the asphalt....I thought it was kind of a dangerous situation. But what really pissed me off is that I paid for this JC club and everyone else got in at the same time during the stampede.. boooooo. Was anyone else there to see this?

"Show me a 450 in skee ball and I'll show you a wasted childhood."

I just got back from the park, having arrived at 7:20am today so I could get an early ride on Maverick and get a fleece jacket and t-shirt. When I arrived about 20 people were ahead of me, and by 8:45 there were 40-50 people in front of me as a result of people simply cutting in line or buddying up with people and/or family already waiting. At 8:45 they started scanning passes and letting people wait under the Magnum track (past the tunnel).

At 9pm, they didn't start playing the national anthem and after a few minutes people were getting antsy. I think there would have been a riot if they didn't finally let people go, so they opened the barriers and the stampede was on. I ran all the way to Maverick, which I must say is a HECK OF A LOT FARTHER than the run from the Marina to MF. I managed to get on one of the first trains, and had certificate #0026 for the fleece.

My first ride I sat in the back seat, having rid previously three times in the front seat. Definitely a big difference, which is pretty surprising considering how short the trains are. You really do get whipped right out of your seat as you crest the lift hill and I think it's rougher overall in the back. Much fun. :) After that ride, I immediately got back in line, which stretched well outside the queue and around the corner towards the Mine Ride.

It took about an hour and a half to get back on the ride--not bad at all. This time I sat in the second to back row. I then went over to ride Mean Streak for the first time this season, which at 11:00am was a walk-on (it would get busier later). Then I went to get my two t-shirts and walked over to the Challenge Park exit to put them in my car. I then went all the way down to guest services to get my fleece, after seeing they were handing them out early (the certificate said to go after 1pm). On the way back I was going to ride Raptor, but it broke down just as I arrived (figures). I then ate at Midway Market and took the Sky Ride up the midway.

After spying that the wait for Magnum was (according to the sign at the front of the queue) 1.75 hours, I said, "Uhh, no thanks" and walked back over to Maverick. I got back in the queue, which was full right to the entrance. It was 1pm at this point. At exactly 2:30pm I was sitting in the front seat of a train with a big grin on my face. :)

It's much nicer riding Maverick in beautiful weather than the rain we had to suffer with for the Red Cross ride.. Unfortunately the steam in the tunnel was not operating today, which really makes a big difference. The tunnel, while still fun, isn't nearly as much so (in my opinion) without the steam running. With the steam you cannot see the end of the tunnel, and you go flying through steam illuminated by various color lights until you come blasting out of it. Without the steam you can see the "light at the end of the tunnel" as well as the interior surfaces of the tunnel. It just doesn't work quite as well. Hope they get that working consistently.

So, I've now ridden Maverick six times and I really don't think it's going to get old anytime soon. :) :) I spoke with several people today who have ridden it at night and loved it, so I need to do that soon. Oh, and several people I spoke to also have bruises from the restraints, mainly by raising their arms during the ride (which I did when I rode in the front today!)

I think that's enough rambling for now!

I have read all the posts and just wanted to ask was it worth taking out WWL or not?? Could CP have left WWL there and build around it?

Scott's avatar

I don't think that many people in line had any idea what was there before anyways. If that was the case it was definitely worth losing WWL. It was 20 years old and getting kind of rough around the edges. I'll feel better though once the trees grow back in a bit. =)

I also have the wicked bruises on the arms from the ride. Along with some nice scrapes from the seat belt holder. When they screwed the seat belt holder into the overhead restraint they put the screw head facing out and the screw itself facing in. So the raw edge of the screw was rubbing my chest through my shirt/sweater the whole time during the three rides from the Red Cross auction and the three other rides this weekend. Ouch! *** Edited 5/28/2007 10:48:41 PM UTC by Scott***

I absolutely loved this ride, it just may take Millies spot.

As for brusies I have none, I just kept my hands forward instead of up and it worked just fine.

Overall I think this ride is a thing of beauty. Every element is awesome, as a side not I could not see it being remotely possible for the heartline to exsist. The speed you have going through that part is fairly fast, the whipping action would be unbearable.

The Horseshoe rolls are sweet you have the perfect amount of speed to allow you to get some great airtime.

As for the stengals and the airtime hills (especialy the last one) give you great airtime, also the last stengal may as well be considered an inversion.

Back seat seems to be the best, it really throws you out of your seat into your harness more than once (forwards and upwards), especially during the first drop and the last airtime hill.

Beeeeehhhhhhh!!!!!

Wherever you ride, there's nothing like riding in the front; probably more on this ride than any other ride I've ridden.

I'm a big fan of riding in the front of coasters, and at CP especially on Raptor, Millennium Force, and Mantis. I have to agree about riding in the front on Maverick, though--while I've ridden in the back and it is fun and a slightly different experience, I think I've enjoyed the front the best (which I've done four times so far). This is especially true when there's steam in the launch tunnel..

Just got back from the park. I love TTD so much but me and a few friends got in line for Maverick this morning, and it was amazing! I can't believe the ride was that good. We were pumped right from the start being noisy and giving some of you Cleveland fans a "dee troit basket ball". Then we got on the back seat and got the clear. That first hill is so fun going fast, and the drop from the back seat is insane, every twist and turn seemed perfect and we didn't want it to stop. We got off and celebrated getting our free tee's. Normally i'm pumped for dragster, as we got front seat on that today, but right after, we headed back for 2 more Mavericks, and those were both front seat rides. I didn't want to kick dragster out as my favorite, but all i could say for Maverick was "wow.", like a lot of other people. I have bruises on the fronts of my shoulders from having my arms up, but i don't care, it was SO worth it. :)

I did not get a chance to ride the very front, but I will make a point of doing so on Wed.

Why do you guys feel the front is better than the back (view is a given)?

I love the view you get straight down as you go over the lift hill, while the rest of the train catches up. The launch tunnel, when there is steam in it (which we had Saturday morning, but not today) is incredible in the front seat. Even without the steam it's still great, but really, I hope everyone gets to experience it with the steam and lights. You probably also get sprayed the most from the water jet over the S-Curve canyon, although that's not necessarily a plus. :)

And as you mentioned, the view is better in the front, which I think makes even more of a difference with this coaster since it's so low to the ground and has so many quick direction changes.
