Maverick Rocks!!!!

Just got back from the park after having ridden Maverick as part of the Red Cross auction. I don't have much time right now as I have to hurry to get over to a show where I am a vendor this afternoon, but I had to say this, at minimum:

Maverick Kicks Ass!!!

I was rider #30 and was able to secure a front seat in the last train. From the moment you get over the top of the lift hill until the end of the ride it's non-stop adrenaline. Well, you do slow down for the launch tunnel, but holy cow, is that one heck of a launch tunnel! I don't know that I want to ruin it for those who haven't ridden it yet, but that was my favorite part of the ride!!!

They actually ran all six trains three times through, which was great! The only negative was that it was raining off and on---for the first time through the rain wasn't bad.. Second time, it had stopped. Third time it was POURING and it felt like ice daggers on my face (especially being in the front seat!)

Can't wait to see the pictures once they are posted!

Okay, must run now, can't wait to read everyone else's impressions!!!

..Al

PS: I think this may be my favorite coaster in the park now. :)

You are the third person to say that this may be your favorite Coaster at the park. Thats saying a lot at CP. We will see if that is just an initial excitement, or if this really will become one of the new CP "classics"!

It sure seems like the crew is hitting excellent intervals now. Every 60 seconds when the webcam loads, a different train is in the same exact spot! I can't wait to ride it!

The S-Curve works well--I think a heartline roll there probably would have been too intense. You have a fair amount of speed going into the canyon there. After getting shot out of the tunnel and up the hill, you are slowed down, but you pick up a lot of speed again going down over the pond..

First drop, great, as you go over the hill you lift out of your seat and you get a wonderful look straight down (especially in the front) before you start picking up speed. And the twisted horseshoe rolls are also great elements, taken at a speed that allows you to really enjoy them (not too fast, not too slow)..

Oh, just one more interesting thing before I really have to leave.. Twice this morning during the Red Cross rides, a train got "stuck" in the the launch tunnel. This then results in the train on the lift hill doing a rollback. The second time it took them 10-15 minutes to get the ride going again, while a train of people was sitting outside the station in front of us getting absolutely drenched. There were also two trains sitting outside the station behind us, also getting drenched.

Normally, you enter the tunnel at a reasonably slow pace, and then you quickly accelerate out of the tunnel like a bat out of hell..

The station is nice, they load two trains at a time and launch both at the same time--with one going up the lift hill and the other waiting at the base. They start a train up the hill one a train in the tunnel launches. When it runs well, it's very slick.

Oh, and they do have extended queues for the front seat of each train. :)

How about the Stengel Dives? Do you feel like you're being tilted out of your seat?

Single rider line?

I didn't see anything about a single rider line. However the queue was very nice.

I stood in the pouring rain from 6:45 on and ran all the way there and got to the front of the "public" line (keep in mind I guess the red cross and family members of higher-up people at the park could just ride as much as they wanted, or so I heard) and it was totally worth it. I don't care if the rain makes me sick. It was incredible.

I don't think anyone could complain about this ride. Its non-stop action from the moment you start up the first hill (which goes really fast) all the way to the end.

someones already said it in here, I'll second the motion. Hands down my new favorite ride.

oh yeah, and the first rider shirt is really cool, except they only had them in large and extra large. Oh well. I'm looking forward to a joe-cool pullover on monday! :)

Walt was there taking pictures like crazy, so you guys will have an update to look forward to later today

Hey Hey Hey, I have returned from my visit.

Maverick is spectacular, it will now move to my #1 Spot.

I was bid winner #32, which I kind of expected no Front seat for me. I really didn't mind because the I wanted a seat in the far back to begin with.

The lift hill is very unique... Its so fast and I think that everyone let out some sort of noise qwhen the LSM's accually kick in, its rather quick and unexpected. Let me just say, If you want a awesome ride, get in that back seat. You get literally thrown over the top of the Lift Hill, much more than any other coaster at Cedar Point. The "Sidewinding" area is very fast and very fun in those ridiculous transitions. The first airtime hill offers some very nice airtime, especially in the back again since you get thrown over the hill. The Horseshoe Roll is a very smooth and great element. The speed of the train is perfect, you feel like you are floating at the apex of the corkscrews. The Launch is also wonderful. You enter the tunnel and slow down, but you never stop. You go slowly for just a moment and BAM!! Your off again.

[SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!!!!!]
[SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!!!!!]
[SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!!!!!]
Very thick smoke in the tunnel, you will get a little damp... and the lights at the end of the tunnel are spectacular. You will just have to see it for yourself.

The trim braking after the launch is a little excessive, but its not all that bad... you defiantly pick up speed over the lagoon. The new S-Bed is really not all that bad, you do get a little pop of airtime. I can see where the heartline may have a problem after experiencing the stengel dive element that is under the first drop. Its very quick and somewhat unexpected how quick you are moved through it. This is probably where most of the head banging will happen. The second stengel dive is also quick but a little more tolerable. Don't get me wrong though, they are still two very awesome elements. The last airtime hill before the brakes also offers a good smidgen of airtime. This ride also runs in even heavy rains, so downtime due to weather may be minimal.

So here are my stats for this ride already!
-Rides - 3
-Rollbacks - 1!!!!!!!! (Second Train OF SEASON!!!!)
-First train to do a full circuit in the Rain

The station looks great, the queue house also looks great... Overall this ride is GREAT!!!!!

That's because it's not smoke...it's a series of mist curtains...and yes, the LEDs are cool!

Glad you enjoyed your ride!

^IDK.. it smelled a lot like the foggers that they have for Halloweekends, but I'm not sure. It was also creeping out of the tunnel entrance and lifting away. *** Edited 5/26/2007 5:24:07 PM UTC by BGRooDoG***

Can you clarify exactly what a rollback is on Maverick? I've heard a few varying explanations, but I want to hear it from someone who has experienced first hand.

Thanks!

<3Mav

Im not exactly sure what cause our rollback. But our train started its way up the hill and it got near the top and it slowed don considerably. Then it stop shortly and slowly rolled backwards back to the waiting block. Someone said that the train in the tunnel either did not launch or also rolled backwards after an unsuccessful launch, cause I didn't not see their train leave the tunnel.

Also, the horn is gone... just to let you all know.
