Mantis removal or transformation?

I will need to agree with many posters, that watching everyone guess, and speculate what will happen next is very entertaining. I would like to address a few issues that have been mentioned.

1) To those who say the Cedar Fair marketing department should be fired. I say give them all a raise. They took the first day they were closed since opening day, a day when most people would be not be thinking about the park or at least be saddened by the closure and turned it into an event. I bet more people hit their website and YouTube Channel on Tuesday than any other day since they announced Gatekeeper. I say nice job marketing.

2) In my opinion, the timing of information has more to do with controlling the information than anything else. They knew they were going to start taking steps to “squash” Mantis and those steps would be seen by people either watching the webcams or visiting the park when it was open. So rather than let you all run wild with speculation when you observed them doing whatever it is they need to do to begin the process , they announced what was going to start happening. When/if the next steps need to be taken or started and if CP feel they need to communicate these steps to control the information, they will proceed with announcing what is next. An example to this was the Lighthouse Point expansion. To my knowledge they did not announce this until they started the work well after the season. Why, in my opinion, they did not need to as the work was being done in the back of the park and could be started well after the park closed.
So in my opinion, the timing of announcements is closely aligned with the construction schedule of whatever lies ahead for the former location of Mantis.

All we know for sure is the Mantis as we know it is no more after October 19.

This is getting brutal. Pages and pages of the same thing. Ensign Smith, you've made this thread worth reading. Stand up comedian... classic ;)

I'm here all week--try the veal! ;)

What's the verdict on the test paint? I would at least assume the test paint points to the coaster living on in some form whether on point or elsewhere?

I don't think it does at all, couldn't you also see them testing paint on a coaster that was on it's way out, but had good track to test on?

Also, what do you guys think of specifically the paint color? I don't see it as very good colors for Rougarou. I would think it would be something darker, not light purple and light green.

I thought this was interesting. I hope it doesn't become James.

vwhowaard, you're right. People obviously have not been reading, or even skimming, though the pages of similar speculations.

I do believe that we are in store for something great either way if Mantis gets completely removed or transformed. A new ride in place of Mantis will for sure bring in a crowd, and on the other hand, a ride transformation with this much hype has got to be fantastic.

You don't see the fascination but you have probably felt it in your legs/blood vessels unless you ride in the back. All those positive g's ya speak of.

Of course, positive G's is what Mantis is all about. Especially when it was new before they put the first drop brake in. It's a great layout for a stand up, I'm not sure the constant positive g's would make it interesting as a sit down. If it happens, I'll of course ride it and would love to be proven wrong.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Wouldn't everyone want a nice, brand new, state of the art ride rather than an 18 year old coaster with new trains? I don't see what the fascination is in converting Mantis at CP. it would make a fine ride at a smaller park, either stand-up or sit-down. But, by modern standards, it is a relatively short, older coaster that is all strong, positive G's because of the stand-up design. Half of you will still complain because of the strong positive G forces. Don't expect to create a Dominator just by putting new trains on the ride.

I think converting it to a floorless coaster would be a perfect upgrade for 2015, being that it's too soon for a brand new coaster based on CP's usual timeline. I think people are underestimating the novelty (and increased comfort) of a floorless Mantis.

Jason tweeted 2015 new ride will be aimed to teens and other thrill seekers ! So something big is coming for next year obviously ! So I bet the reason why it closes a few weeks early is to probably to start repainting and rethemeing it

I just think its going to be more than a floorless conversion.. They built this up bigger than that.. they keep making the "rollercoaster capitol of the world" references.. I know its all Marketing.. but that leads me to believe there will be some MAJOR substance backing it up.

I honestly think there will be 2 additions and 1 revision.

A Dark Ride/Coaster (A darkride wild mouse/aquatrax/coaster) something that is a dark ride but also considered a coaster...

A new coaster in Mantis' Place

A Revision to Mean Streak.. its gonna get the treatment..

All 3 will happen.. probably over the course of 2-3 years.

That would be a major announcement and it makes sense

It's one thing not reading/skimming this thread alone, but we have known this for ages... You just had to take a look at the 2015 page. Sorry I'm picking on you, I'm just tired of seeing the same stuff posted on every single page of this thread. This announcement was only yesterday and we are already at a tenth of the pages the 2015 thread had. This is not moving in a good direction there is way to much of the same stuff, so might I suggest that to those of you considering to post and haven't yet, reading this thread at least the first pages to see what has already been said.

A little off topic, but I just heard six flags MM is giving good old Colossus the RMC "surgery" and now it will be this bada$$ double steel tracked colossus...mean streak is falling behind these too many RMC coasters...

I just don't get it. Exact same ride, ridden while seated, is an improvement? Would Matterhorn be a different ride if the cars were swapped out for standing Matterhorn cars?

Some thoughts on Tony's supposedly fake to-do list:
Steps 7 & 8 are coaster tunnel & boardwalk. In the done column, you can't see if they're checked off or not! They could be :) a coaster tunnel would fit with the boardwalk too, makes sense ya know.

Also kinda disappointed/bummed when I said this and people called me out, saying they hope I'm being sarcastic. So this time I'll lay it out better.
The list:
1. Call RMC
2. Purchase Aquatrax
3. Relocate Mantis
4. Build Dark Ride
5. Go over 500 ft.
6. Coaster tunnel into Lake Erie
7. Build boardwalk

Ok I will lay this out one step at a time do you can see how obvious it just can't be a coincidence.
First letters of each line/step: CPRBGCB

ok if the first two are CP, that can't mean cedar point, what are the chances?
Next two letters: CPRB. Cedar point is not record breaking, how absurd to think the fort four letters are cedar point record breaking.

Skip the 5th letter for a moment.

The last two words are "Coaster" and "Build", which stand for their letters.
So we go back to add line #5, which is a g, and what else could this stand for but "Cedar Point Record Breaking Giga Coaster Build".

Not sarcastic, I know it's absurd to think that CP does any form of marketing, guerrilla marketing, tricks, hints, no, they don't do that!
It's absurd to not even consider that they would do something like that. and please don't disrespect me! (And say I hope that was sarcasm.

CF park carowinds claims tallest fastest giga for 2015, so we know CP wouldn't just suddenly outdo them but who knows. I think CP could do this 2016 or go after another giga record like steepest or longest.

Heres a question. Why would CP even build another giga coaster? They already have the best giga in the world. Cedar point doesn't just go for massive roller coasters. Their style is variety. In 2003 we got a 420 footer and in 2007 we got a 105 footer. Maverick was just what the park needed. So what if the park does get a 500 footer. To me it would just seem to similar to MF and if it was a launch then to similar to TTD. The park doesnt need another giga or 500 footer.the park needs more unique rides. (Which they are doing a good job on)

They wouldnt.. They would build a 500 footer..

They would break the barrier..

Which they have done every single time.. Gemini, Magnum, Millennium Force, Dragster..

Why have a 500 footer? To remain the coaster capital of the world.

Maybe to make the tallest coaster that has inversions..

Not sure what is going to happen, but it will be good in the long run.
I Hope.
Anyway, I think that mantis will be demolished and that another coaster will replace it. not sure what that coaster will be, but it will probably have wheels and a track and be powered by gravity.
also construction for Diamondback didn't start until the 11th of October.

2013 - Top Thrill Dragster (10th Anniversary Crew)
2014 - Corkscrew/Super

IMO..what does or doesn't happen is out of our hands. I'm almost positive, none of us are shareholders or elected personnel of Cedar Fair OR Cedar Point. That being said-the decisions that have been made, and will be made are based on an average statistic basis from the general public-just not solely on the 'fan' base'(us). We're seen only as profit to them, but we see it as personal enjoyment level(s), and that's ok. Let them provide something new or different for 2015. Even if it's not what we'd like(now), the choice was made for a reason. Sit back, relax then reap the benefits in 2016(or whenever).

Keep passing the fun along!

^right nextgen89. (Love your sig. btw, I swear I heard that from somewhere, maybe Hot Rod) harmony

To Kyle: another giga or strata couldn't be unique? That would mean every hyper was the same as every other, and so with every <101 footer (whatever coaster that's called).

So basically macerick would be just the same thing as Gemini, like what was the point of maverick it's almost the same footage of Gemini. Don't get me wrong, they're both unique...

I would like to hear your guys' feedback on my cp to do list theory. Just about the whole CPRBGCB thing. Like, seriously? What are the chances guys and gals, that the first two letters are CP?!?!? Like 1 in 26 squared or something like that? And CPRB (record breaking), 26 quadded (fourth power).

Plus it's at least a bit peculiar he spelt Monday "MonDay"
And almost every word is capitalized.

Thanks cp and y'all
