Mantis removal or transformation?

I don't know if this is the same as a "floorless" coaster as some talk about, but seems like an interesting match. It is what I think of in terms of CP changing the trains on Mantis. Riders sit elevated from the floor, might allow them to essentially match the physics of the current train, not violate any design constraints, yet still use the existing track.

Donno, but it is interesting to speculate about.

In my opinion, the ride is uncomfortable. However, the first hill, dip, drop, and big loop are awesome and not uncomfortable. Too bad the rest of the ride wasn't designed a little better.

^ B&M hypers have two train configurations. One with 4 abreast seating. The other staggered (the one you have pictured). They are not floorless trains, they are simply open air. Floorless trains have a station floor that drops down after the riders are loaded so that their feet dangle above the track. The hyper trains have a floor below.

or maybe the tab labelled floorless?

Okay so I just did some measurements on google maps..

I was comparing the MF footprint.. to that of Mantis..

Then.. I compared both to Diamondback at KI

This statement may seem rediculous.. but It is TOTALLY Feasable to fit a 4 to 500 footer using Mantis' footprint..if they remove SRF.

It can go over the Midway Diaondback style over to the Pirate ride building area very easily.

Do I get the ridiculous post award?

If SRF is removed.. they would need anothe r"splash down effect to replace it.. an AQUATRAX..

Therefore.. We are getting a 500ft Aquatrax that will be located in Mantis', SRF's, and the Old Pirate Rides Footprint.

It will be themed like a Louisiana swamp style.. Named Rogarou... and be quite possibly the best coaster ever built.

(I know this sounds rediculous.. but "wish listing" nd "speculation" is fun.. so Nah)

I made a little Mock up of layout and locations and tweeted it out to Tony and CP.. lol.. it should give them a good laugh..

OR A GOOD IDEA.. lol

Wowzers... I saw the craziness on twitter and then this post... Tony did indeed have some fun with it I'd say.

The other day, prior to the release of the video, Tony mentioned that he was sweating.

Underneath photo of Mantis in his July blog post he wrote:

"Anyone sweating yet? I am..."

Either Tony has some perspiration issues or he was dropping hints about an indoor and/or water ride. What what! Haha.

A ride cant be called popular just by citing the amount of ridership it has had.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense.

My last ride on Mantis was over 10 years ago. I remember on my last ride that my seat was not adjusted comfortably (my fault but also a bad design) and totally crushing my nads so hard with a pain that shot up my entire body to my throat. To make matters worse I had just caught my breath and was hoping the damn ride was over soon only to have my head slammed so hard into the restraint on the second half that I felt like I just received a concussion. I was seriously seeing stars after I got off and have not ridden since. I say good riddens and hopefully the new trains (either sit down or floorless) have the new B&M rubber vest restraints.

The questions surrounding a 400-500 foot coaster have never been about "where" or "how", but rather "why".

It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to build a lift hill that high, or even a coaster that goes that fast. Look at Maverick, consistently one of the most popular rides in the park, standing at a mere ~100 feet.

I often wonder if the "OMFG 500 footer FTW!!!" crowd isn't compensating for some shortcoming of their own. ;)

Interning with B&M I know more than the average person, guest, and employee. Mantis is being removed and will be giving it's final rides on October 19th. The track is being redone COMPLETELY, repainted, retracked, and new trains will be put in place. New station, new entrance, new exit, new queues everything is new. It is becoming a floorless coaster and it will have a new layout. I cannot say anything else.

I am going to dissect this and basically, the track will be removed and a new coaster will be put in place, with new everything?

To make this a little more complex, its not the same as takeing distaster transport down to make GK, because they required a new configuration of the area. , remove DT, remote Space Needle, remove the entrance, and put a coaster on top.

again, what was said up here, that the coaster is coming down, and a new one coming up. He didn't really give out more info other then making us think he did.

No but he gave out more information (if correct) than either his 'bosses' or CP would want him/her to right now.

Maybe we'll be riding a B&M launch coaster soon. :)

not really. I made the same assumption that when they said Mantis was coming down, that a new coaster and new everything was going to happen. I mean, the only time that I can think that the Q line and station was kept was for the Maverick.

this is just Mind games and trolling AND a total of many assumptions put together.

Yes really

how many really enjoyed riding Mantis versus 1.5 million plus or so riders on TTD or MF that really enjoyed the ride?

What does it matter, as long as they're riding the ride?

So popular in terms of ridership, isn't popular in terms of quality of ride.

How can a ride be popular "in terms of" quality of ride? That makes no sense. Why would a park care about the popularity "in terms of" the quality of ride, when clearly the quality of ride factors into ridership numbers?
