Mantis Future

So its the stand up aspect, Ok. That was completely obvious to me when i asked the original question. If Mantis is boring and dull standing up, it will be boring and dull sitting down. I'm still not sure how its a great idea, and more importantly a good return on investment to make it floorless.

Only time will tell...

I don't think Mantis is a boring ride at all. The layout itself seems "fun" and it is a thrilling ride. Standing up is just so uncomfortable that it makes the ride "not fun." I'm not saying that making it floorless will make the ride any more or less fun/thrilling, but it definitely will make the ride a lot more comfortable.

I think people avoid riding Mantis for the same reasons they avoid riding Mean Streak, the two rides hurt. You could make the same argument for re-tracking Mean Streak. If it received a Texas Giant type makeover and the layout wasn't really changed all that much, it wouldn't necessarily make the ride any more or less fun/thrilling. However, it WOULD allow you to ride it without all the pain and fear that your spine will fall out of your back.

My 2 cents.....I've never had a problem with standing or head banging....my dislaike comes from the layout itself, I feel its something with the transitions that leaves me with a bad, but luckily temporary, headache. Not sure that floorless trains would fix this because Maverick has the same effect on me. And in the defense of B&M stand ups, Chang at Kentucky Kingdom (now Green Lantern at SFGA) did not bother me.

And remember, there is the rumor that Mantis will be closing for an overhaul in September and will become King James temporarily before its closure.

What rumor?

^ That rumor. The one that he started right there. ;)

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. :)

I hate Mantis because it puts too much pressure on my legs.

^Jordan, that's the one problem I have with Mantis. I feel like I pull a calf muscle when I ride Mantis. Also not to share too much info, but it hurts my nuts when getting off..lol. Still a good ride though. I think it's fun to speculate about this, and hopefully we hear an announcement of some sort in the next month or so.

BREAKING NEWS: The first 6 pages of this thread were from 2 years ago! The last 15 pages have been created since just 3 weeks ago. Did anyone realize this? Thanks Shawn (and Lebron) for creating a monster and reviving this zombie thread, now look what you've done! Haha.

Well, considering the possible name change, the only solution to this thread is a silver bullet.

Nope, I didn't start it. I saw it in 45Wheelgun's post halfway down page 18 of this thread.

Again, I'll take it with a grain of salt since it was just a typical park employee but we'll never know until the official announcement. Until then, all we can do is speculate so that's exactly what I'm doing.

Speculating is not "all we can do". We can just wait patiently for the park to make the announcement, be pleasantly surprised, and go about our business.

What sane coaster enthusiast "can just wait patiently" for a big park announcement? :)

I didn't get all worked up about Gatekeeper prior to announcement and I came out alright. :)

I am weird I like Mantis. But I have to admit I loved Dominator ( Batman) that was at Geauga Lake and is now in Kings Dominion way better! THe layout of that was way more exciting! I hope for the best for what ever they do with Mantis a paint job is a good start it does need it!

There is nothing in my post about the ride closing in September - only that the work would take place off season.

You are correct - grain of salt - has the Lemon Chill Guy ever been right?

Okay so i just join this conversation. Can someone fill me in of what all we discussed. Thank you :)

21 pages of speculation - like so many of the threads here. Several pages back there is a picture of some paint samples that exist on the structure of Mantis.

There is green paint found on Manits so there is a chance of it being repaired this offseason. Some peoe speculate a name change to Rougarou with new floorless trains. Others say the green paint could be test paint for some other (new) ride. Nothing is certain and the only people that do know anything aren't saying anything.
