Does Cedar Point have any changes to Mantis in the future? It seems like nobody really likes the ride and I've heard a lot of people complain about it hurting. I know from expieriece it hurts. I think it would be cool if CP made it into a floorless coaster. I don't think they would ever remove it considering it wasn't built too long ago. Would it even be possible to make it into a floorless with the G-force and stuff?
I highly doubt anything new will happen to Mantis in the near future. The new coaster will have a very similar feeling to a floor-less coaster.
Plus look at other coaster like Mean Streak which are older and have had very few things done to make it popular again.
I think in order to do this, they would have to replace the track as well as the trains. Might as well buy a new roller coaster for that price. I would love this idea myself because Mantis has a nice layout for it to be converted into a Floorless.
Becoming a floorless would make it so much better. If it wouldn't cost too much I'd say convert it, but if it would cost a lot I want it just to be removed completely. It's sitting on a nice piece of land that can be used for a really good coaster. Having Mantis at a park known for world class coasters is just embarassing, IMO. There are so many other better coaster designs and types that could be sitting in its place right now...Hopefully, but not likely, it will be the next ride to get taken out. I don't know of anybody who likes it.

Mantis is a fine. They really don't need to do anything with it. The ride doesn't hurt unless you ride like a limp noodle. If they were to convert the ride they might as well turn it into a standard sit down ride since it would give you the same ride experience as a floorless and be a cheaper conversion (wouldn't have to add drop away floor).
Mantis is the only one that I won't ride. The last time I did, it put me in enough pain that I went home right after it. The layout is great, but I don't know if it's standing or the design of the between the legs thing or what. I would honestly rather ride Mean Streak 10 times in a row, than Mantis once.
I would ride Mean Streak over Mantis too. CP should really listen to the people and do something about it. Hopefully they'll do something about Mantis. Maybe 2014?
Mantis is just fine, I rode it 4 or 5 times last time I was there and had no problems at all. I am really curious why this ride seems to hurt people.
^And the massive amount of criticism from 'the people' is... where, exactly?
Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

My friends and I have always had a problem with our heads on Mantis. it just whips your head back and forth and kills me. Its almost like the heartline they built Mantis on is at your knees.

I think the reason the ride hurts some people is because they are too dumb to listen to the ride ops when they make it very clear that you should NOT be bending your knees and you should NOT sit on the support.
Sure it still isn't the most comfortable ride, but if you keep your legs straight like you are supposed to, it isn't as bad as it could be.

Funny story...it's legitimately one of my favorite rides in the park. I'm pretty much the only one in my family that rides it, but I'm in love with it. Also, I love the noise that it makes when you watch it fly by.

Put me down as someone who likes Mantis also. The stand up position is fun, putting floorless trains on it would ruin the ride.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I also like the ride, and have never had a painful ride on it. It does give your legs a workout, but it is not to stressful on them. You just have to remember to slightly lean back into the restraint in the station, and then when the restraits lock you can stand up straight so that you are not sitting on the bicycle seat. Remember it's called a standup coaster for a season.

Mantis won't be going anywhere anytime soon and converting it to a floorless would probably take significant and costly work.
I understand how Mantis can be uncomfortable especially for those of us with "outies.' Imoved to Los Angeles a year ago and was shocked at how much better of a coaster Riddler's Revenge at Magic Mountain is than Mantis. RR is pain free and a terrific ride.
The next coaster on the chopping block is probably Iron Dragon or Mean Streak. If another intermediate coaster is added the Iron Dragon site could make for an interesting flying coaster.
Can't say its one of my favorite rides, but from observing the lines, it seems that it has a pretty strong following.

Do what I do when it comes to head banging, extend your neck to in front of the harness, never any problems. I enjoy Mantis greatly and its not going to change anytime soon. If they got rid of Iron Dragon many parents would not be happy due to the second "transition" coaster would be gone, first one being DT
