So, it sounds like (according to people here) that CP either has to build a 500' coaster that goes to Canada and back, or it has to have wild ponies running around and tumblin' tumbleweeds.
My excitement for the announcement is growing, and its only because I can't wait to see the mass disappointment on so many of your (virtual) faces.

But, how long will they continue to use the "We know we won't keep up the theme and effects so we're not going to do it"? It's not some outside force that continues to deprive and neglect DT and other theme efforts, it's their company and employees! Why can't they just say "We're spending $__million on this incredible experience and we need to protect our investment so all effects must be maintaied with this plan that is now in place."
This would be like Shapiro saying that "Six Flags will no longer be building roller coasters because we probably won't maintain them properly and keep them all operational." I'm not saying Six Flags by any means a model company, but for CF to simply "accept" such failures as policy is a little rediculous.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
I'm not saying I think this is all that is happening, but rather another example of CF letting a great opportunity pass because they refuse to try something they don't think they're good at.

I'm sure this ride will have theming, in the same way that Dragster has it, but I wouldn't be expecting anything beyond that.

I know I'm not good at swimming. Which is why you don't see me trying out for the US Olympic team. Cedar Points territory is thrills. Disney's territory is theming. This is why you won't see super-great theming at Cedar Point, and you won't see a 350 foot coaster at Disney.
The theming on Cedar Point rides (including the fog on the Maggie tunnels) has been lost as a result to budget cuts. When you have to cut costs to make black ink happen, theming is the most obvious expendable item they have to cut.
Management knows they've taken a hit in the enthusiast community in regards to DT. Why risk taking another hit and having another ride that doesn't live up to its original "theme"?

Like I said, I don't want Disney-caliber theming on P2007, just the same as I don't expect TTD at WDW. I do however look at rides like E:E, ToT, and RnRC at WDW and think about how thrill rides aren't their big thing, but they do have some great thrilling rides.
The amount spent on theming for TTD is actually fairly good for CP, once you figure the grandstand, new concessions, signage, etc. If they could take that amount and apply it to this ride, some good effects would be possible. Remember: they aren't razing an entire area and starting with a new theme from scratch. They're sprucing up the existing theme of the area. Therefore, more of the theme budget could be spent on the actual ride. Again: this is not what I expect, just what I wish would happen.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
They covered one of MF's tunnels with "rock", so why wouldn't they be able to do the same on Project 2007?
And I have a feeling the queue may go through the WWL station. It would be easy enough to have that look like a mining shack (not to mention provide some shade!) Think Tomb Raider at PKI...not a lot required for queue upkeep. I'm not saying they'll use the building as the station...just have the queue go through it.
Those of you using DT as an example, animatronics are certainly much more difficult to maintain than scenery type themeing. I would imagine trying to keep that talking robot going was a chore.
And for those of you who may have ridden Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus in Las Vegas, the coaster appears to go much faster when you are going through and around rock themed scenery. It's an illusion of speed.
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
Trains coming to life would also seem to go against the "aquatrax" idea.
I would love to have an underground tunnel as dark as Tenessee tar.
Promoter of fog.
Thank you, OldCPer! As a designer it is hard to see potential for structures, audio, and lighting effects, and see them all dismissed because people don't think they can keep it up. The problem with DT is that they tried to go to a Disney-style theme, which at that time they were not ready for. Keep in mind, CF just bought 5 heavily themed parks. Maybe it's time for a corporate position to oversee theming, effects and animatronics? They were perfectly capable of keeping up the old DT effects, they just didn't. I don't think it is totally an issue of money, but more so an issue of attention. The set and lighting elements to DT were great, but it was obvious that they were installed and forgotten about. I remember seeing dust balls bigger than my arm stuck in the cages above one of the preshow rooms. It would have taken an hour a week to keep that clean, but nobody was paying attention.

Some stuff from the Cavalry Officer....
He talks about hunting down Maverick all over the frontier trail.
"Let me tell you this commanchero rides fast and hard."
"Always staying low, hugging the ground...bounding over rocks and swerving around trees."
The two different parts, the Prospector and the Cavalry Officer are quite different. The Prospector part seems more like Maverick would be a "wild-mine" type of coaster, but the Cavalry Officer part explains it to be more like a "wild-stallion" type of thing. I'm not exactly sure what this means for the finished product. It could mean that it will be one or the other, that they're still deciding the exact themeing, or if it's dueling coasters (not sure how likely that would be) or if they will have multiple promos for it just for fun.
Cant see it being a "wild-mine" type thing.. brite red just dont do it for that.. just my annoying oponion!
Greg
I think it is supposed to say "Comanchero: an Indian trader in the U.S. Southwest, esp. in the 19th century." Sounds like a cool back story, especially if they create an environment to back it up.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Great I can see it now... Cowboy boot shaped trains with giant spurs on the back of them, then one day a few months from opening, one of the spurs starts spinning.... flies off and slices Judy K in half.

Well, I've always thought that this ride will have lots of theming. This sounds very much like the type of theming Disney puts in the Big Thunder Mountain coasters. Maybe CP's theming won't be quite as extravagant, but I really think this ride will have canyons, tunnels, trees, rocks and water. I have no doubt that CP can keep something like that nice. It just takes a commitment.
Look at the the track that is installed as of Friday 8/18. The track drops down and does three 180 degree turns before rapidly rising. I can see this track going through a canyon before rapidly climbing out of it just before crashing into a dead end.
I am really getting excited about this ride, it will be an outstanding ride that is FUN and exciting for all, not just coaster enthusiasts.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Im not saying this is an aqatrax, but this aquatrax goes through many tunnels, Im thinking that Maverick will go through a mountain or mine just like this. Its heavy theming but it could happen.
