in the future....

Ryan, I do not understand your logic. IMO the Magnum ride experience (on paper anyway) and the MF ride experience are very similar - very traditional (for lack of a better word). A 500 foot traditional or conventional coaster similar to both would actually fit CP very well IMO (you need to work up on these things).

Spryboy, MM got burned with Goliath when CP open MF 6 months later. I doubt they would make the same mistake twice (I know it is Six Flags, but they do have some brains).

Please note: I know a 500 footer is not going to happen soon. But I would not be surprised to see one in 2006 or 2007 (3 years).

Tom

Miller & Baker, i was just saying that there is no way for that coaster to be going 160 mph with a 500 foot drop. The only way it would work that way was if the train were going 103 over the top and that isnt possible to do at that height concidering that it will approach 82 degrees somewhere in that drop. I am saying your numbers don't quite line up. It would only be able to hit 148 mph at most. That is without air res. but that would only decrease that number.
Fluidcoasters, you are super smart. I am not doubting your intelligence. In fact, I think we should get together and design are own breed of roller coasters!

For the record: I never said my MONSTER creation had a 500 foot drop. It's a little deeper than that!

520, 500+, 160. prepare.

According to a Discovery channel program I saw last year Arrow Dynamics already has a 700 foot coaster designed and ready for purchase. The biggest question is who will be the first to buy it?? I'm not kidding about this either.

Arrow had the 700-footer sold, but the neighbors said it would be too much of an eyesore.

The location? Las Vegas, Stratosphere Tower. I guess even Vegas has its limits.

I though I heard that it was going to be on the Stratosphere. The only thing that would suck about that there would be no chain/cable lfit to the top. That is the most agonizing and or terrifying part of any coaster.

700 ft?! Are you guys serious? That would be soooooo cool! Uber-cool! What kind of coaster was it? Was it simply a MF style, where it goes up, goes down, overbanked turns, airtime, brakes? Or was it a giant X? That would be sweet! Picture X but 700 feet tall! that would be the greatest!

life without danger is a waste of oxygen

Is hard to believe anyone in Vegas would call ANYTHING an eyesore ?

Have they looked around lately?

I heard that it was going to be a fish hook coaster (it resembles a fish hook). I'm not sure but I think that it was going to be pulled backwards up 700ft (the hill was going to be attached to the Stratosphere Tower) and then drop forwards down the hill at 90 degrees through the station and up another hill that is past 90 degrees then fall back down backwards and mabey keep going back and forth.
700 what? that's insane. FluidCoaster, we better get to the drawing board!

I actually heard on that discovery channel episode that they wer going to add another level to the Stratsophere and have the elevators drop you off there. If that episode comes on again i will let you all know! Besides if it isn't at CP it's not a good coaster!!!

What about a 500 foot Vekoma Flying coaster or what about the new tilt coasters.

New For 2003 Top Thrill Dragster Tallest Coaster Ever!!
yikes - a 500 foot vekoma or tilt coaster sounds like a nightmare to me - they cant build one half that size without head banging from hell. I would pass on those.

Now a 500 foot version of RoS at SFNE would be coaster heaven.

Tom

Tilt coaster? What is that? I've never heard of one of those.

I think that that the bigger the coaster is you want to build, the less likely it is that you will find someplace where you have the room and the permission to build it. A lot of parks aren't allowed to build over certain heights, therefore the taller the coaster, the less likely it is to be built.

The proposed Stratosphere coaster is a perfect example of this.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

Natas, you make a very valid point. It was surprising given the other attractions in Vegas that the coaster got rejected. I do think there are more than a few parks that could secure the building permits required, and have the land and funds to develop another mega rides. I think Dragster will hold the record for a few years, until MM, PKD, PKI, or even CP develop an even larger ride.

Tom

Not mocking or saying anything bad here:

Six Flags does seem like the kind of company that would restructure S:TE to be taller and faster.

I agree Craig. I certainly would be a cost effective move to recapture the title.
