Giant Wheel, Wicked Twister, Troika, Chaos, maXair, and the midway games makeover have greatly improved the south side of the midway, but the north side (Peanuts Playground, Aquatic Stadium, and Ocean Motion) is really showing its age. With the Aquatic stadium alledgedly being put to rest this season, I've been thinking about what the park could do with this area.
I'm trying to start a project 2008 topic, I'm just trying to the different possibilities that could be put into play for this area.
I think the area should be used for a new attraction and persumably a family attraction. Peanuts Playground is perfect size for a new spinning wild mouse type ride. Like Knott's is getting this year. Those rides seem to appeal to a very vast range of people. Some new paint and other improvments could really make this side of the midway look just as good as the south side (minus the ugly coaster).

They need to redo the meal counters in front of Space Spiral & Disaster Transport, too, as well as give the Spiral a new paint job, and do -something- with that disaster of a building for DT.
I like the playground as it is, personally, because when you bring kids, the sensory overload of all the rides, noise, and lights can make a young child very crabby, very fast. It's nice to have a place where you can take them that's a bit quieter, less fast paced- a place where the kids can actually run around and get the excess energy off. Think about it- a 5 year old loves to run around and play. In the park, they are holding hands, stuck in a wagon sometimes, not able to run around anywhere. They have to sit still, stand still in lines, etc. The playground could use a make over, but I wouldn't suggest removing it.
I like the Ocean Motion, but it is in need of being placed where people actually see it and use it. I don't think I've had to wait in line for that ride, ever. But being tucked away in that little corner, with the large pine tree in front of it, it's often missed.
The food booths that face the Aquarium/Aquatic Stadium could use a face lift, that's for sure. Brighter colors, and less of a "I was built in the 70's" look.
The stadium is an eye sore. It's like they don't know what to do with it, but they keep it around and chage the venue every few years to try and revive it.
As was suggested in the DT thread, they should make that whole back area like a boardwalk beach theme. Maybe a water ride, shops that sell beach themed stuff, lemonade stands, etc. The whole area where the stadium is just seems neglected next to the updates the Wicked Twister & MaXair brought in.
Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!
Doug and I were talking about this the other day. I totally think the areas you mentioned are due for an overhaul/upgrade/replacement. If you take a look from windows live bird's eye view, there's really quite a bit of land to work with there.

I like Craigs idea. A small Mack spinning mouse would be a nice addition with that area. And it could be themed (yes it would have a theme) to something from the Peanuts. Perhaps something like the Kite Eating Tree with kite themed cars....something neat for the kiddies. It could go with an over all rehaul of that area.

Is Sierra Sidewinder really considered a mouse? I never really considered it one just because it spins. I'd love CP to get something from Mack. I hear they're awesome from my friends overseas.
I liked the idea of a water ride over there too. They could do really cool things with a boardwalk theme. I know it's been talked to death for that area, so maybe it really is coming. It would be cool if they could keep some of the trees though. It is nice to have more than the Frontier Trail as a place that slows people down. Like someone said about the little kids going crazy with all the lights and sounds, the same thing happens to adults.
I really hope they don't do anything bad to the Colosseum though. I love that building and would like to see it cleaned up and maybe used for something else.

I agree! I wish they would use the ballroom for something, maybe a sit down restaraunt with a show? Not crowded and busy like Red Garter, but open with full service meals, and maybe a singer or two a few times during the dinner hour.
I love that building, but would love to see it utilized more fully.
**Edited to add:
Maybe keep the art deco theming inside the ballroom, and make a Roaring 20's style restaraunt.

Adam sees mice everywhere :)
Yea!! The return of my log ride!! WWL2! Keep the playground though. My kids really enjoyed it when they were young for the above mentioned reasons.

The midway will be perfect once they tear down Disaster Transport and the Aquatic Stadium.

If they do that, and move Troika down towards Ocean Motion, it leaves a nice big chunk of room open for a new coaster :)

Then they would lose their precious 'most roller coasters' record.
They still have two more than Magic Mountain. I really don't think CP cares all that much about that record anymore. Then again, maybe they do, I don't know.
I still say find a way to keep DT and make it look nicer. The building is the problem - not necessarily the ride. If they enclosed the tubes and eliminated the building, they could put food places or games and stuff underneath it. Or, they could just make it so you can walk under it. You could also see the lake again.
DT could anchor one end of the midway and something else (Intamin woodie) could anchor the other end. :)
I just think removing the building altogether and not enclosing it with tubes (some tunnels are okay though) with a new paint job would be amazing. The building and the long pointless, confusing queue are just too much. I don't like it at all. Maybe a beach theme or something would be great.
^^^^ And I'll join you! We'll chain ourselves to one of the fake hydrogen canisters and sing, "We Shall Overcome". Wearing our 3-D glasses, of course! ;)
Edited for carrot correction.

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
The pictures of DT when it was Avalanche Run don't look too bad. I mean, if they did a boardwalk theme, they could get rid of the building, paint it brightly and not have to get rid of it. I'd like to see more of the lake but would not want to give up that ride. It just needs some attention, bring more theming back or revamp it. I don't think I've even been offered 3-D glasses for years. Kind of sad really...

Actually, I would rather see a lot of flats back there with perhaps a big, anchoring coaster. Picture this: DT and DD replaced with a floorless Dive Machine (first drop and immelmann toward WT, mid-course behind the midway games, second drop and immelmann where Demon Drop is now). Okay, maybe it's a pipe dream, but other than squeezing a GCI there, I don't see much "big coaster" potential for the area. I do agree with the Mack spinner, though. Two coasters, and a flat or two, and you have an exciting midway once again.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I like the selection of coasters at CP. Really, to me, the park's only lacking a spinner and a GCI woodie. A Dive Machine would be great, but honestly, this is just my blue-sky idea. Beyond the two coasters I've already listed, I think the park needs new flats more than anything (especially a new flat by Blue Streak). So I don't want to be called out for being a fanboy or anything. *** Edited 4/19/2007 7:45:59 PM UTC by ArsonWinter***

They could use more spinners.. stuff that isn't so intimidating to the people (and kids) who don't like roller coasters. I love that they have added new thrill rides, but they could definetly use rides that appeal to a broader range of people.
Before I started to actually like coasters, I spent my time on things like Calypso, Matterhorn, Schwabichen (yeah, I probably messed the spelling up there), and Troika. Troika was my favorite back then (and still is a favorite).
