If cp opened in April...

Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the May opening. But in regards to the staffing issue and the being ready issue, if Kings Island can be open weekends in April why can't the Point? What makes the Point's issues different from KI?

The Cincinatti metropolitan area has a population of over 325,000 just in the city limits. That's not counting the 'burbs.

Sandusky has much less.. That's why they rely on college students.

College students are busy with finals in April. They can't be bothered to worry about working weekends.

^ And they can't go to CP when they're taking finals. And grade-school kids can't go, cause they are in school. And, teachers can't go.

Most parents wouldn't want to take time off from work, since the weather is so questionable, and they wouldn't want to waste valuable vacation time.

Senior citizens probably won't go, since their grandchildren are still in school (see above), and the rainy weather provides less-than-favorable driving conditions.

Cats & dogs are often distracted (and sometimes scared) by the frequent thunderstorms that come with early spring, so they're out.

Hamsters & ferrets are likely to get washed away into storm drains, without the helpful leashes of their owners.

Ghosts might go, but without any kids/young adults/teachers/parents/seniors/cats/dogs/hamsters/ferrets to scare, what's the point?

What kind of crack are you smoking, son? Pass it this way. Sandusky gets lake effect snow all the time.

Dude, go ride your little frog hopper some more. Thats why people don't voice their opinions on here because of crap like that.

Sandusky is rarely affected by lake effect snow.

Thank you Walt!

When it snows in April around these parts, its usually here for a day and then its all melted away. Its not like we are going to have a blizzard around here and be buried on a ride.

As far as staffing goes, cp pulls in college students and ride prides for both September and October for the weekends. Hypothetically the same could be done in the spring.

Riding the Frog Hopper once was painful enough, thank you very much. I see lots of opinions voiced on here every day.

Opening before May is out of the question.

That is until they build a huge dome over the entire island...errr peninsula.

Wow, great responses, but the orginal question was...If cp opened in April, would you all still go?

I would!

Ben it was his opinion and for some reason if the persons thought around here doesn't go with what the majority thinks they get bashed or get rude comments thrown there way.

Then when someone points it out to you, you then reply with a smart ass statement.

Ben does spend much of his time bashing people on here. It doesn't really add to the topic ever either.

If someone voices their opinion, and someone asks them what kind of crack they're smoking, what's so bad about that?

Ben was just voicing his opinion.

Lake effect is more of a late fall event.{quote}

I hate to do this but you are wrong Walt...During the late autumn and winter, when cold arctic air sweeps across the Great Lakes of North America, snow squalls may form along the lee shores of the Lakes.
a.k.a. lake erie
Lake-effect snows are not restricted to the Great Lakes shorelines, but are most common and heaviest there. Any large lake may produce lake-effect snow downwind if it remains essentially ice-free. And, although the east and south shores of the Great Lakes are most likely to have lake-effect snowfalls, north and west shorelines can be hit if the air traversing the lake is cold enough and the distance the air passes over open water (known as the fetch) is large enough.

My case and point is that Sandusky does get Lake effect snow. My other point is a large amount of the rides at Cedar Point are unable to run in the cold without causing problems such as roll backs.

Both of you are the last people to talk about this, those who live in glass houses should never throw stones, because both of you have done what you have accused him of doing. You both add the teenager who has nothing to do point of veiw, and at times your post are worthless also.

I hope you weren't talking about me. Far as bashing people's opinions and what they say, I have never done it. Check my posting history if you want.

^^Yeah I have nothing to do. I have school 7:30-2:30, Base Ball and my job that I work 5 days a week.

Get your facts straight.

No, my original statement is correct. Arctic air masses usually bring winds from a west or northwest direction. That means lake effect snow falls on the east or southeast sides of the lakes. On occasion, a cold wind does come from the north. In those cases, lake effect bands have affected Sandusky. But they are usually very weak, because the lake is too narrow north to south (as opposed to the long fetch of water a west wind has). And that situation just doesn't happen very often. Not that my meteorology degree from the top weather university in the country or the fact that I lived in the Sandusky area for more than 25 years matters. ;)

This map gives a great look at where lake effect snow falls. Here is a very good article that explains lake effect in detail without being too scientific.

I would generally agree with you Walt. The lake-effect snow that Sandusky receives is nothing major, but it is still snow. I have been in the Sandusky area in April on a few occasions, and while its sunny when you cross the Turnpike on OH-4, it's cloudy and snowy by the time you reach the lake shore. Nothing major, but not exactly what I'd call "amusement park" weather. And this whole thread was about opening in April.

I'll keep my first weekend of May as opening weekend.

Also, baseball in November? Their has to be a nice indoor facility to play that this time of year.
