If cp opened in April...

I am missing cp already and can't wait till May, but I wish it would open earlier. So if Cedar Point opened in April, would everyone here still go? Your thoughts...?

Then they would have to close in September to have enough time to get ready for April.

Not to mention the staffing issues.

And the snow.

It would be cool but not very realistic.

Plus, I prefer those pretty May flowers to those darn April showers.

Besides, whats a couple extra weeks of waiting anyway? There are *gasp* other things to do in the World besides Cedar Point!

Seriously - its true.

Brandon

That's true.

^ See? I told you it was true.

Last year the last weekend in April, Cleveland got what... 6 inches of snow?

Screw opening in April.

Thanks for sharing...lol. We know what you mean though, I freeze around my ears during this time of year.

This last season, it started to hail the week before opening weekend while we were training.

CP opens early enough. Although there may be a nice weekend or 2 in April, it probably wouldn't be cost effective.

There sure are! My choice is King's Island! It's open in April. Hehehe =)

April 23 was the day it snowed, to be exact. I remember this because it was the day after my mom and sister left for Florida.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I see everyones points here about the weather, but you think it would be possible for cp to open in april. Though many have already said how much it snows, Northern Ohio can also have some nice days.

We start playing baseball at the end of March, track season starts then as well, and I've never had a game cancelled due to snow; rain yes, but not snow.

Screw opening in April.

Though this may be true, Cleveland and Buffalo always get a huge amount of "Lake Affect" snow due to there locations on Lake Erie. Cedar Point would be on the opposite side and shouldn't be affected by this.

In the past, the park would close in the middle of September, but with Halloweekends, its open till November almost (only on the weekends in September and October of course). October brings very chilly conditions and it could easily snow, it has happened before in October.

With this said, I am sure cp could do the same thing in the spring that they have done in the fall. Have opening day be near the end of April, and then until the first or second week of May, only be open on the weekends. Instead of Halloweekends, call it Springoweekends or something.

When Six Flags operated Geauga Lake, it opened the weekend before Cedar Point.

What kind of crack are you smoking, son? Pass it this way. Sandusky gets lake effect snow all the time.

Walt's avatar

Sandusky is rarely affected by lake effect snow. And when the wind direction is favorable for snow bands to come across North Central Ohio, they never pack a punch.

Lake effect is more of a late fall event.

And weather isn't at the top of the list for reasons not to open in April.

Staffing would be rather difficult in April as well.

ok lets be honest, here i live in monroe mi, about 1 hr west from CP and we dont get 6 feet of snow in april...but it does however RAIN RAIN RAIN...the rides would be shut down becuase of that...not the "snow" which is quite rare in april...anything that hits me travels right across lake erie to CP...but since were all meteorologists now you have the right to voice your own opinion.

Just outside of Detroit Michigan on April 24:

But, regardless of the periodic freak snowstorms in April, the largest issue is most college kids (who are the main staff for the park) don't get out of school until the end of April. CP tends to be a bit short-staffed even on Bonus Weekends/Halloweekends and many positions are filled by Ride Prides.

There is so much prep work to open the park, not having the staff to do so in March would make April openings impossible.

I like the May openings. CP is a summertime activity, a spring opening in May is good enough, let's not rush the seasons.

Pete - who hates seeing Christmas trees in stores next to the Halloween stuff.
