How was opening day?

Just got back, WOW am I tired. I arrived around 7:30am at the Resort Entrance with already 20 people in line. That grew to HUNDREDS at 9am. It was a very very nice day, unless you were in lines along the beach, very cold wind. Crowds were on the heavy side, I'm gonna assume a good August Saturday comparison. Most rides had full Queue's, but I still got some major ridership.

TTD - 3 (1RB 3rd Train of Season)
MF- 1
Magnum - 4 (VERY VERY SMOOTH, NO TRIM WOOOOOO)
WT - 2
MS - 1 (Would have been 2 but there was a walk-down the train before us :()
Gemini - 1
Skyhawk - 2
Maxair - 1

We had a Pointbuzz group of 8 people riding trains after the get together, we had massive amounts of fun. I was not too bummed that I missed Raptor since I will be there Monday. It had a good 2hr line all day. Maverick look fantastic, the station is a work of art. The launch also has some theming inside, you will just have to see for yourself. I'll make a full trip report later.

Thank you Josh M. for letting me follow you around all day, It was a blast.

EDIT: ALSO, My Magnum expierence today was by far the most interesting and Hysterical, once again I will have more in a trip report. "THE SMOKE IN THE TUNNEL, RIDES CLOSED" hahahahahhaha ;) *** Edited 5/13/2007 6:27:08 AM UTC by BGRooDoG***

I had a great opening day, stayed till 11 because we had the third last train on MF. I don't know what you people are talking about saying it was hot??? It was very cool and breezy till about five, then it was just freezing, especially when you're wearing a tee shirt and shorts. CP definately made a huge profit on their hoodies today, almost every other person was wearing one. I wasn't too smart and didn't come with a hoodie or a lot of money and i froze wearing just those clothes while the wind made it feel like 10º outside. After i got off MF i was so cold that every part of my body was numb/stiff, but it was great. I'm so tired right now that i'll tell you my full trip report later.

The amount of downtime to me seemed excessive even for opening day jitters. I suppose I may have just been in the wrong places at the wrong times, but it sure felt like I was walking circles just to find something that was open. There was one point early in the day when there was not a single ride in zone 1 that wasn't down. WT was up and down all day, TTD ran alright between whenever it got warm until whenever it started to cool down, and I attempted to get on Magnum 3 times only for it to be down every time I walked past. It took a few tries to get on Mean Streak too. Without a doubt things will be better in a couple of days, but it seemed pretty rough today.

Aside from that issue (and the large crowds), it was still a great day to be there. The weather was pretty nice until evening time, and all the employees were exceptionally friendly. With my most recent park trips being Knott's, Magic Mountain, and King's Island, I definitely forgot how huge CP really is. My feet and legs are not happy with me.

I don't know about yall, but I am burnt to a crip this morning. My face and back of my neck are killing me. Everyone says I look like an Indian lol. I'll be using some sun tan oil for cp this week.

^I'm so glad that I brought sun tan lotion yesterday, I remembered to bring it as I was going out the door. Although the lines may have been overestimating things, I rode the Space Spiral around 3-4 and the main part of the main lot was about 3/4 full and there was a lot of buses (more then I seem to remember on a normal day) so much so that they were not in their normal part by the SP center and instead out in the auxullary lot on the lake side of the main road. And Flight of the Raptor it was nice to meet you.

We have a big photo update on the way. I'm still going through several hundred photos, but I think they'll be up today.

Ride On

The good: Matt, the ride op on Gemini was great. Got people excited & had the crew smiling. Even my boys that went off on their own most of the time said of all the rides, he was the coolest ride op.

It was very nice to put faces to names at the PB picnic. Lots of good food!

The bad: I hate to do this since I'm one the few DT fans, but I was mad they sold the 3D glasses when they didn't have hardly any of black lights on. What's the point taking a buck from people that don't get to use the product? Just makes em' mad.

The weather was cold for our gang. Some in this thread thought it was nice, but they must retain heat well, because we froze most of the day, especially on rides & any time we where over by the lake wind.

The indifferent: I didn't really care that it was busy. Longer waits yes, but it added to the excitment of OD & you should have seen the running of the bulls when they let the general public in!

Peace Love Hope

We got walked off of Mean Streak. We were the first Public Train of 2007 and when we finished we sat at the brakes waiting to go to unload for thirty minutes. We got walked off by suits and a seasonal. It was interesting. The op took some pictures of us waiting and of the ride for me.

I thought Magnum was having a tough day, personally. It was running very well, but it was setting up quite a bit. I was out in the Soak City parking lot having lunch and noticed around 1pm that about every third train was setting up on the safety brakes after the third tunnel. After this happened, a ride op had to run out to a manual brake release near the lift motor to let the train go. If they wern't fast enough, the train on the lift would setup before going over the top. This probably happened 5-6 times in a 20 minute window.

Why?? The loose item bins are seriously hindering dispatch times, the crew is still very new, or some the controller was reprogramed. Not sure, but I hope they get it fixed soon.

Can't wait to see the pics Walt, I didn't stay at the park long, because I wanted to get home and watch the Cavs. I guess I should have just stayed at the park. :)

The Mean Streak Walk Down was at 11:20. I belive it was running again around 11:45.

Even though there is the yellow stiching on the Maverick belt, the signage still says a half inch of slack. If you have the yellow showing, I would say your more than than covered. I watched many people try out the test seat. It is much more accommodating than MF or TTD.

For anyone that got on Mean Streak, how was it running? It's going to have a busier-than-normal year in 2007.

What can I say? Opening Day was awesome! Yeah, it was pretty cold in the morning and evening but it didn’t really make the experience worse. The lines were pretty bad, and it seemed like just about everything had a line. As for the rides, they were pretty touch and go all day. Dragster, of course, was having difficulty running more than 3 rows in the morning but it eventually got up to full trains. It rolled back quite allot during that time, and of course I just so happened to miss a rollback when I was almost sure I was going to get one.
The meeting went fantastically! The food was great (the cake was beautiful and delicious) and my buttons seemed to be a hit (there's still some left). All of us who stuck together and went on just about everything had a blast! It was quite the trip that I won't soon forget.:)

Opening day was pretty good except for rides breaking down a lot. My group and I were walking around most of the time trying to find a ride that wasn't broken down. We got on Sky Hawk with out a problem under 5 minutes in the beginning of the day. We had the other problem with one not wanting to stay in line for over a hour. So, tired of walking around ended up going to see the first Garter show. It was pretty good just wished they had more rock in it. There was a lot of country in this show but was still pretty good. After long day at the Point my body is hating me this morning.

Caitlin

I had an excellent time on opening day. Got there at 8am and didn't leave until 10:30pm. I was a little surprised at the # of people that showed up. It was almost like a Saturday in late June and July. I got to ride almost every coaster except Raptor cause the line was too long. The weather could have been warmer, but overall not too bad if you had jeans and a heavy shirt. The new restaurants and games look really nice, and Maverick looks like it's going to be well worth the wait. So, for all of you that did not get a chance to attend opening day yesterday, just wait until Maverick opens and it'll almost be like having a 2nd opening day for everyone!!! My only small disappointment for the day was when I stopped into Fridays at Breakers to have some dinner. I usually sit at the bar and have a few beers and eat, but I was told that they no longer serve food at the bar unless it's just a small appetizer. You have to wait for a table from now on if you wanna eat. Not a huge deal obviously, I just don't understand it. I hope everyone else that went had a great day like i did.

Thanks Jason for sharing your pictures, on the on picture of the parking lot I counted around 178 bus's. Now lets say each bus holds about 50 people, so take 178 x 50 = 8,900 people. That many people came from bus's along.

Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

Well, it appears there were quite a few of us taking pictures all day Saturday... ;) It was a great day though, and until the evening, when it got chilly, the weather was nice. And all I have to say is that I'm very, very impressed with Maverick and the surrounding area.

Great opening day pics Doug. :) I love the night shots.

My first Opening Day, and it was amazing! TTD was not running full trains in the morning, and Gemini was not really "racing" until the afternoon. Other than that I was extremly happy. Also, who came off of Raptor at about 9:55 p.m., with the "Magnum is sinking" shirt. I forgot to say hello.:)
