If it was a taller ride, you could easily park around the footers and supports. You obviously couldn't build into the lot if it were a smaller ride.

But, just look at all that charm.

Then they could name it Parking Lot Stunt Coaster...

Man, I'm so excited about the prospect of unsecured phones and loose change hitting my car! Is it 2013 yet?

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Lol, sonme of the parking area that's located near the game stands by disaster transport could easily be cut without any major consequences.

I don't see the problem with building a coaster in a parking lot, if that's the only room you have for it. Six flags great adventure just built green lantern in part of the parking lot and it looks great. Kings dominium built dominator in a parking lot and it looks fine as well as seen here..

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Is it possible that the removal of PWE is a combination of dinos coming in and a 2013 attraction? At the park today I couldnt help but notice just how many coasters are built with numerous footers/structure in the water (Maverick, CCMR, Iron Dragon, Mantis...). If you ride the train, CCMR, or PWE, and factor that no-longer-being-used surface area (the PWE "river") there are a lot more possible areas for a coaster being built half on land and half out over the water.

Furthermore, if John were to announce a big coaster at coastermania early next year, perhaps the "surprise" Dick hinted at, the construction could start in June/July with PWE already out of the way.

Just being overly hopeful as always :)

You're right, they could. And if they don't want to remove anything, that general area could serve as a viable place for a new coaster.

Thunder Canyon's area was mentioned earlier as well, I think that would also be a good place to put a new coaster (without having to remove an attraction).

That is true that dominator was built in a parking a lot and I'm ok with that as long as you can't tell it was a parking lot. At that coaster at SFMM you can see the parking spaces and that just looks terrible. Along with green lateen at great adventure, you can see the parking spaces which is just bad. Where with dominator they landscaped it and added grass and took out the cement and you wouldn't even notice that was a parking lot

They cannot reduce much if any of the parking space. There are always a few HalloWeekend Saturdays when the entire parking lot fills and they are parking cars in the grass by the tollbooth and next to Blue Streak. In addition, there are a few other Saturdays in the summer that come close to using most of the space. This is also considering the fact that they do not allow employees to park on-point during these extremely busy days.

However, they could certainly move/consolidate some of the warehouses and offices behind Disaster Transport and consider removing the on-point employee housing altogether and relocating that elsewhere. Besides that consideration, there is still an abundance of creative room to be made in between existing rides/structures at the park... I wouldn't be too concerned at this point.

There is a difference between putting a coaster on parking spaces rather than building a roller coaster in a parking lot, then landscaping it with some grass . It might just be me, but I see a bit difference in the landscaping between this http://rcdb.com/4079.htm?p=28201 and these http://rcdb.com/617.htm?p=4209, http://rcdb.com/2169.htm?p=33013

Oh yeah, I'm with you there too. I doubt CP would leave a parking lot as is if they decided to build into it. They would be sure to spruce it up with hills, grass, flowers, and whatever else they find suitable.

coolkid's avatar

Exactly. If a park decides to put a roller coaster in the parking lot, they should utilize the space well. Six Flags should have at least covered up the parking lines upon opening Medusa or Scream!

The only thing I have against the idea of a coaster in the PWE river is that there really isn't a lot of land around the river for a coaster. So if they were to put a coaster there, I don't think it would look very good since just about the whole thing would be over water. If they were to find room on land for it also, then im all for the coaster over there.

Well when I was at carowinds I rode night hawk and that was over the water. It was one of my favorite rides not only because of it being a flyer but because it was over water and it looked really nice. I wouldn't mind at all having a coaster over the river because I personally think if the water is kept clean, it really looks nice and gives a nice touch to the coaster. I mean how many roller coaster go over water?

^I think that would look pretty cool too. So far, we have...

1) PWE river
2) Over thunder canyon
3) Staff area/parking lot by disaster transport

Could you guys see any other potential spots for new coasters?

Possibly two where MS sits now. One more between Gemini and MS if they were imaginitive with their creation.

I think there is a rumor of one going near turnpike cars and calypso.

I do think a coaster over water would be cool, but I dont think the whole entire ride should be over water.
