Housing

Can you move into housing on a Sunday if you process in on Monday?

Do you just show up at the building, or how do you get set up? And can you do this anytime or does it have to be like between 8 and 5 or something?

Thx!

You can get into housing up to 24 hours before you process in, although I'm not certain as to how it works since I've never done it or known anyone who has. I do know you can only do it if you arrive at housing after HR closes, otherwise they send you onto HR to process in first.

Last year I got to the Point the evening before I processed in to get my housing all taken care of. It really beat getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning to be ready to leave by 5 for a three hour drive. Like Chris just said, make sure you get there after HR closes. Just go into the Commons Store if you plan on living anywhere other than the 15000 building and tell them that you process in tomorrow and that you had a longer drive than was practical. They'll get you set up with a room, and if you were planning on rooming with someone who is already there, make sure you let them know and give them at least one of your roommate's names. The front gate at Commons is the only place you might have a little trouble coming early. My suggestion is to be confident, sound like you know what you're doing and be firm. The person in the booth when I got there was a little resistant, but I didn't have too much trouble.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Thanks!

I've done a little reading today on Cedar Point Housing and I still have a few questions. I am returning Cedar Point Employee and my roommate from college is already at the Point. He has tried to save me a room/bed in Commons dorms and that has since failed. We are both considering living in Cedars since it seems to be the "unpopular" place to live, thus being the most "guarantee" we can be roommates.

So a few questions about Cedars:
1) Can you rent an A/C or do you have purchase your own?
2) Are they all two bedroom or do most rooms hold three people?
3) With the higher demand in housing do you feel that Cedars will be filled to Capacity this summer?
4) The likelihood of CP Housing to hold a bed until June?

Thanks for all of you insight information!

1) You can rent them (they are units that people have left behind in previous years) but I have no idea what they charge or how many are available.

2) There are two and three bed rooms in Cedars, although I don't know which type they have the most of.

3) Given what I've seen at Commons already, I would say it's almost certain.

4) Given my answer to #3, not likely. Everyone I know who has tried to hold a bed has been unsuccessful. They have already started putting a 4th person into all the rooms in 1400 that have 4 beds but only 3 lockers. In the past they would only do that if all 4 roommates agreed upon the arrangement, since someone would be without a locker.

Well its not the best news, but thanks for a reply. Hopefully by June people will either stop showing up or will have already started to quit, lol.

One last question: Have you ever lived in Cedars? Any advice on living there?

I have not. I almost did last year, but decided to stay at Commons because that's where everyone else I knew was.

Wouldn't putting someone in a room without a locker open CP up to potential liability if items were to be stolen?

That's why I figured they always limited the number of people per room to match the number of lockers. Although the other housing units (apartments, Cedars, Gold) don't offer you anywhere to lock your stuff up. I suppose maybe this year they are too overcrowded to have any other choice. Last weekend there were many more cars in the EVC lot than I ever saw last season. From what I have heard, Commons filled up yesterday and they are now directing everyone to Cedars and Gold. Those dorms didn't open until about the 2nd week of June last year...

Commons is not full. Gold is not open. Unfortunately. My friend and I got stuck in a three person room with only two lockers. Luckily, we trust each other and could cram all of our stuff together. Bah.

i have some question...

1. There was mention of refrigerators but I was unsure. Can I bring a mini fridge? or will i even have to? do they supply fridge space?

2. Should I bring a tv? Is there really a point?

3. Do the dorms lock?

4. If i come at the end of May- beginning of June what housing will be available?

Yes you can bring a mini fridge and i would suggest doing so i bought one my first summer and still use it it helps save some money on food.

It is up to you you probably wont have time to watch a lot of tv but if you have a dvd player or game system you want to bring then it would be worth it.

yes the dorms lock.

By that time everything except Baysides and 1500's should be open.

Definatly DON'T stay in the apartments...unless you enjoy living with up to 15 other people that you don't necessarily even know. They say on the CP site that they have air conditioning, which they do...but they fail to mention that its in the tiny common area that serves as the kitchen/dining/living room, which doesn't do you any good as the rooms are all sectioned off of a long hallway. People go in and out like nobody's business and there are only 2 bathrooms (for girls...this especially sucks).

Apartments are definatly not worth the money you have to fork out for them. If you're a girl,I'd personally reccomend Golds dorms (onpoint dorm)...they aren't much for looks, but serve their purpose decently. You'll want to buy an a/c unit though,as it gets pretty hot. The dorms at commons aren't bad either, and come with an a/c unit already in them, but they cost twice as much as onpoint dorms do.

Hey all, I am confused... Is there commons dorms and commons apartments?... I'm new to all this... HaHa

Thanks!

There are both. The "complex" is called Commons, and within it there are both dorms and apartments.

Did they ever get wifi or anything in any of the dorms?

from what i saw on the site it looked like cedars and golds don't have internet at all, but the others either have it 'in the lounge' or 'in the complex' whatever that means.

im hoping that means i can use my laptop in my room/apartment without having to sit in a crowded room or rec center but we'll see. who knows how much time there'll be for that anyway!

I do have a question myself tho - on the descripts it looks like only Commons dorms have lockers. is that true? or is there a place to lock up our stuff (like laptops etc) in the other types of places too (bayside)?
