Hey everyone! A few questions.

CoasterChris's avatar

Just applied to cedar point last week with a ride operator as my first choice. It wasn't until the past few days that I realized that I chose to work part time thinking full time meant year round. Whops! I emailed CP and they said I can change my application to full time online, but it does not seem to let me. It only lets me change my contact information and informs me under the status that it is currently being reviewed by CP. Should I just tell the person over the phone interview about the change and be ok?
Also, I may be looking for a roommate here pretty soon so if anyone is interested, please PM or email me.
Thanks!

You can either wait for the phone call (which may be awhile since it says "part time") or you can call HR back and inform them there is not an option to do what they said.

Ok thank you. I will be giving them a call tomorrow.

I just called and hey said that there was no spot for choosing part time or full time. I thought there was but maybe not. :P Guess I will just have to wait for the phone interview.

That's funny because a friend of mine just applied and asked which one of those he should pick. So that option was on his.

Hmm thats really interesting. I could have sworn it was on mine also. The lady sounded confused and seemed very confident that it wasn't on there. I should call back and see if I can get someone else.

I have a couple questions as I just applied earlier this week.

First. IF I am lucky enough to get the call and do well, how specific should I be when telling them my preference of where I want to work?

Second. Exactly how hard is it to get a Ride Host position on a coaster?

I'm really hoping to get be selected to be a coaster ride host as I want to design them after I graduate with my Mechanical Engineering degree. There are (of course) a few that I would rather be on than others too.

Thanks,
Ryan

Every first year wants a coaster! It is not the ride that makes your summer. It is your crew. You will come to a point in the summer that you cant wait to get off your ride. That is why I love planet snoopy. There are 9 different rides in this area. Also, as a first year you dont really have a say in what ride you are on. They are a little more open to request your second year and so on. But do NOT worry about the ride that you will get. Make the best out of your summer because if you dont its gonna bring your whole crew down.

Is there anything wrong with wanting a coaster? I know that the ride won't make or break my summer. But to say that I won't be mildly disappointed if I don't get one would be a lie. The main reason I want to work at Cedar Point is to deepen my understanding of coasters.

Either way I know fun will be had. But since designing coasters is what I want to do, I really want a coaster.

When will you be getting there? I will be getting there in early June and will be looking for a roommate too. Also, I know mine had a part/full time option. I hope that gets worked out for the people above who think they clicked the wrong one.

Chances are pretty good you will work a coaster or two this summer. All you have to do is asked to be crossed trained. When you get your contract in the mail it will tell you what ride you will start on. When the season starts its not very hard to get moved around.

Thats good to hear. Thanks a lot for the nice response. :)

I didnt mean for it to have a mean response. you took my words completely out of context. I just wanted you to know that its not the ride that makes your summer great. I dont want you to take me the wrong way. and sorry if you did.

Honestly your contracted ride is not where you'll end up. It's quite customary for folks to show up expecting to be at their contracted ride, and BAM! Park Op hits you with Oh! you're on this ride.

Yea the exclamation mark at the end of your first sentence kind of made it feel as though I was 'unwelcome'. It's cool though. I probably shouldn't have just assumed the tone in your post as being harsh. Sometimes it is hard to understand the tone in text.

Huh. Thats funny because now that I remember my friend, that basically is the reason why I applied this year, said she was contracted to be on Paddlewheel a couple years ago and then showed up and was told she was on Top Thrill.

Hopefully they never do this to people in the opposite direction though. That would suck.
