Further decline of space spiral

Anyone notice that the cabin on space spiral is no longer spinning? To add with the air conditioning that stopped working years ago it make me wonder how long far they will let it go before removing it all together. Having been over 30 years old it could be replaced with a new model in a more central location in the park.

Blue people fly sideways when it rains

I don't see it being replaced with a newer version. It has just lost it's appeal. Even when it was spinning and working properly it wasn't drawing crowds.

I think that the space, along with DT, could be used for a bigger attraction.

The Spiral span last weekend, so I dont understand why you would be so quick to think CP wouldnt fix it.

It was spinning when I was there in May, and I could actually see out of the windows! Not sure if the windows are new, but they sure looked clearer than last year....

Removal of Space Spiral wouldn't really disappoint many people, and I agree with Winste, the space around that area needs something.

Imagine if they took out DT and SS as well as surrounding food stands. Build a new ride, and new stores, food stands. It would be amazing.

I think they should get some old vintage rides, maybe along with a medium sized wood coaster, and replace SS, DT, and the surrounding area. It would be something that the park has never done and might draw more people than it does right now.

Just a thought.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I think the Aquatic Stadium might go before either of these things. I don't really see anything wrong with Space Spiral (besides when it doesn't spin and the lack of air conditioning). Not every person that goes to CP wants to just ride coasters. Space Spiral, Giant Wheel, the train, Sky Ride etc sll serve a purpose.

^Amen to that.

I don't want to see Space Spiral go. Yet, if they are going to just let it fall apart, they might as well get rid of it.

I happened to ask at a Q&A once about DT and if they were going to keep it (this was when the speical effects went on a HUGE decline) and was told that since it still was a draw (Rainy Days) they had no intentions of removing it

I think they are right because I have seen it multiple times in the last few years with 1+ hour waits

Scary it still draws.. though I almost consider it a kiddy ride anymore..

I think the only problem is that you have 2 rides there that are "sight-seeing" rides right next to each other. When they moved the ferris wheel there, I think it changed the ride count on SS. I think one of them should move to another area of the park, like to the back. Could you imagine SS back by Wave Swinger so you could watch Maverick from above? That would be cool!

What's funny is that it shuts down in rain.

Some genius thought it'd be smart to put open vents directly above the trough so when it rains the trough gets wet and the trains can't stop.

eat. sleep. ride! - Coaster apparel and accessories!

Ride on, MrScott!

My 4 year old loves space spiral and when we rode it 2 weeks ago it was spinning. As for DT he is going to be able to ride it next year.
So unless they intend on putting something in the a 46 inch kid can ride, leave it alone. I never realized how much the park lacked for a kid that is done with kiddy land and ready for the bigger stuff. He wanted to ride Blue Streak so bad the last time we were there.

Moving SS would be quite a project.

I agree with you there. Anyone who has looked at the way they boarded up the windows on the stadium probably realizes that it is on its way out. Would it help to stir the pot if I said I saw Rob Decker along with a couple of other guys in ties standing by Chaos and pointing at the stadium a couple of weeks ago? :)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

They shouldnt get rid of space spiral..I think its a nice ride to view the park in a calming fashion.

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

I dont know who Rob Decker is but next time you see him sneak up behind him and point his finger at DT for him and whisper "clean up that mess" in his ear, please.

I agree the SS should stay, but they could update the cabin. THAT would be nice...and it would breath new life into the attraction. Relaxing music...two/three decks of viewing...all glass...air conditioned...heck I would jump on it again just to check it out.

Ah, the beloved Space Spiral! I remember the days of the air-conditioned cabin, clear windows, and, perhaps best of all, no damn annoying taped commentary blaring into your ear from 6 inches away!

Why is attendance down on SS? Because the ride has declined! It used to be a very pleasant diversion, now it's just a loud, hot ride that you cannot wait to get off!

The insult to the injury had to have been the horrid conditions of the windows! Take me up a couple of hundred feet, bake me in the sun, then shout in my ear about things I can't see through the crappy windows. Yeah, that's my idea of a good time!

There used to be long lines for both decks of that ride. I can't even remember the last time I actually saw the upper deck open. The best ride I had on it was a couple of years ago, when it had cooled in the evening, and my wife and I were the only two guests aboard. The Ride Op turned off the tape, and we all rode in blessed silence. And it was fun. (and a bit romantic. :) )

So, Cedar Fair LP, replace the windows, repair/replace the A/C, get rid of the damn tape, and watch the ridership numbers climb again!
