Front Gate Destruction/Construction

I'd be willing to say that people will not care how "artistic" the front looks with a beautiful B&M wing coaster, whizzing through 2 keyholes, right in front of them. :)

Let's not also forget that what we see design wise is what had to fit in the budget. Sure, a neat globe sign with coasters and stuff on it or some kind of wacky color scheme would make it pop more, but how many parks have an ACTUAL COASTER as part of the ACTUAL ENTRANCE? None come to mind. :)

^I'm gonna have to agree :)

Check out this nice photo update where it shows the new entrance coming together!

First rollback on Dragster July 23 2003 since then 15

I personally think the renderings of the front gate look great. I don't want anything super fancy. I just want a functional, visually appealing entrance and if the renderings are fairly true, then both of these items will be checked off. Also, I don't see what the big deal is with the sign. The way it's shown in the rendering is perfect, IMO. I think this because I believe CP wanted to set up a good photo spot for people. Having a nice sign to stand in front of while still being able to see the Keyholes and inversions behind it is something I can see as the park's purpose for having a scaled back sign. If there was something huge instead, the focus would be taken away from the keyholes. Would you rather have a picture taken in front of a sign that gets the point across by saying Cedar Point, and seeing the fantansic flyovers in the background, or would you rather have a massive structure that takes up a lot of space and also blocks some of the flyover behind it?

I have to agree with everything RideOn_17 said along with TTD 120. I personally think this new entrance is a big big improvement over the non-used entrance ticket booths that everyone just cut through anyway when they went to the park. I also don't see a reason to complain about the sign. That sign in the rendering looks like it could be Fifteen feet tall so like RideOn said, I would love having my picture taken in front of that. Well if anyone wants to take my picture that is since I go by myself most of the time. Anyway though, makes me wonder if Cedar Point will have the Kodak people taking pictures in that area instead of by the main carousel?

but are you saying because the coaster is there that it's the only thing a guest should and will pay attention to as they enter the park? If so, I disagree, and I hope that isnt the park's intention.

More or less. At least, it's obviously the focal point and center of attention without a doubt.

I'm only saying, from looking at the rendering, that they've missed an opportunity to get a little artistic and make the front entrance experience even better.

And I see what you're saying, but the new sign, trees, and fresh look is all you need. As long as it's nice looking (which it will be...and in this case, breathtaking as well with Gatekeeper), I would argue the vast majority of guests are far more concerned with getting through the front gate and into the park.

Oh well,... sorry for the whine.

Actually I really did mean wine...and it was a merlot, and very tasty. :)

...but it could really use some more personality.

You mean like a roller coaster with two barrel rolls over the gate? They totally should have done that.

You see, to me, even the key holes are sterile and bland looking. Nothing appealing about them at all and the Gate Keeper barrel-rolling over the entrance is still less visually impressive then the Corkscrew going over the park midway. I maintain that there is a lack of personality.

Then again, this is all just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions. I just felt this was the appropriate spot to voice my disappointment with the rendering we were offered. Didn't plan on disrupting things here.

For those saying it's just a rendering, I know but if Luminosity is anything to go by, then I expect the final result to be less impressive then the rendering (which promised much more). Like everything else, we'll just have to wait and see.

Assuming you've been to the park before, you have seen the corkscrews over the midway in person. Pictures don't really do it justice. We've been seeing a ton of pictures of the keyhole elements on here, but not yet seen it up close in person.

Exactly.

One of these years, it would be cool to actually see them finish the project before the complaints start. :)

Of course, you won't have long to enjoy it with the apocalypse going on at the same time.

^ I didn't hear about the news until I arrived at school around 5:00 pm. That is Awesome news! Maybe Tony and Colleen can team up together and be a team the way it used to be when Tony and Tyler ran the blog.

So wonder what they are doing with the crane at the keyholes. Any ideas ?

Well did anyone see the progress they made on the ticket booths yesterday? I know they're not close to being done with it, but it's taking shape and looking good. :)

Is there any chance that Cedar Point will install the finger print scanners at the main entrance like Disney has?

The only reason I believe Disney does that is to deter the possibility of ticket fraud and ticket resale (selling un-used days). Mainly because most tickets they have are multi-day passes and are in no way cheap. Most of Cedar Point's tickets are single day or at most weekend passes and are far less expensive, so fraud and resale of these tickets are not as common. I think the only benefit would be for annual passholders, and even then it really isn't necessary.

How many turnstyles are they going to have between the two keyholes?

I'm guessing the same amount as they had before? Someone mentioned the finger print scanners set up so maybe they're getting brand new turn styles. ;)
