Extended Closure

veritas55:

you were taking digs at TTD2's "chance" to be a nightmare maintenance ride too....

That was definitely my intent. Even with my dark sense of humor I definitely hate what happened to that person. My joke was mainly about the maintenance nightmare and I just wasn’t really thinking about the lady as much.

I actually don’t even know how life changing the event was as I simply never stayed up to date on it.

I apologize as I do take it seriously and I certainly don’t want anything like that to happen again.

I found it insensitive, I didn't like it, and I spoke up. I write the checks, so I'm certain that's within my prerogative.

Are we all allowed to speak up then, or just the one writing the checks?

You can speak up all you want, but don't expect anything other than, ultimately, I get to choose to set the tone. This isn't the public square, it's the corner of the internets that I pay for.

Understood. Appreciate the transparency.

Settled.

Has anyone that's visited the park recently and seen any additional work going on the past few days? The last update it appears that was reported was the removal of wheels on one (or more) of the trains.

I haven't noticed any changes. Water dummies are still shrink wrapped onto one of the trains and it appears at least some wheels were removed from the blue train. The area has been barricaded off so it is hard to tell for sure but there definitely hasn't been anything major going on.

If they're getting new wheels with new material and that process hasn't already started, we're looking at a lengthy time frame. I hear those wheels take a looong time to cure, once molded, before they can put them on. I wouldn't be surprised if it IS down till July.

Did anyone actively look at the wheels before the closure? They were in great shape on media day. There was a little bit of material shed on to the next car forward from where I could see them, but that could be dirt for all I know.

Hard to say if we don't really know what the visual signs of a pending wheel failure are.

I watched that guy a few days ago and he went into a good amount of detail about what he believes is the possible issue and a possible time frame. Of course, he does make it known that he obviously doesn't really know what the issue is and isn't trying to spread misinformation. But he does appear to have decent insight into typical coaster mechanical issues as a whole.

Also, he talked about some interesting things I never knew about regarding coaster wheels. Which isn't saying much since I'm not a mechanic. Lol

(Probably not surprising update)

At the park and all the wheel assemblies are still off.

Zamperla's new wheel bogey design spotted onsite this weekend.

Sitting right beside it now. The ride audio is on, which feels like a bit of a tease, but that's probably automatic.

Spotted this bit of tape- not sure if it's new.

That piece of tape has been there, and the background music has been playing since the closure as well. Every time I am at the park I spend a few minutes over there to see if I notice anything new. So far I've got nothing but it is hard to tell with the way they have the barricades set up.

Noted.

An older gentleman- and bolder soul than I- slipped past the barricade and was up on the bleachers snapping pictures- knowing my luck I would get caught if I pulled something like that. 😆

"No charge" doesn't sound like an alignment issue.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it said 'no change' or 'no charge'. The latter definitely points to an electrical issue, but if that's the problem, why take the wheel assemblies off?

Curiouser and curiouser...

I wonder why they won't just come out and say what the issue is. Just another instance of the amusement park industry being more secretive than the government, I suppose.

There are a hundred reasons not to go into detail, not the least of which is so armchair experts don't sit around and declare "obvious" solutions.
