Now, if B&M would build CP an LSM-launched flyer, that would be a really neat experience. Probably the first of its kind.

yes please

A 1960s era Calypso was our #tbt yesterday on Facebook.

This is almost like looking at a completely different ride! It makes me sad to think about what Calypso looks likes now compared to this awesome getup!

It was 50 years ago. Be happy the ride is still operating at all.

Not wanting to start a full on thread of this area of speculation so I will pose/ ask this here. If the old buildings are completely torn down, I can still see a 10 story tower similar to what is on the other side, providing some on site employee living facilities (I still see a use for this but what do I know) as well as a few kick ass high floors on the bay side with access to the marina perhaps for VIP/staff whatever.. This would allow a slight shifting of the road and this new speculated ride.

As for the ride. From what I have seen on videos the dive coasters look a bit "clunky". I hope that can be addressed.

As I look at many angles of the area on google earth I wonder if a good deal of the structure could come down into the railroad area and even a turn around stretching into the triangular parking area right on the water.

If a dive coaster is built in this area, or any coaster for that matter, I would like to see Raptor repainted. Not new colors, just a fresh coat of paint. I see this as the coaster that is in most desperate need for a repaint. In my mind, it would bring more charm to the area. Its prominent spot in the front of the park should give almost the same wow factor as Gatekeeper and years of bird droppings just doesn't do it for me.

^^ I'm not quite sure what you mean by clunky. They certainly look different with the unique train they utilize, but I can assure you that Griffon, at least, was both forceful and smooth. The uniqueness of the carriage (not sure what else to call it) actually adds to the fun. Being way out on one edge versus the other makes for a totally different ride.

No ride will please everyone, but I have little doubt a dive coaster along the lines of what has been described would be a consistent crowd-pleaser for decades.

By cluncky , I mean more structure than there is grace to the ride itself.

I see. Well, to each their own perhaps, but in person Griffon is beautiful to just watch. In fact, with the broad trains, it actually works to the theme perfectly, and the track layouts look no different than any other coaster aside from the top of the first hill with the drop mechanism. At Busch, Griffon actually completes its first loop under and over a bridge that takes riders towards the entrance.

What I always thought would be a neat bit of theming to add to a ride like this would be a building at the top of the first drop much like Snake River Falls. The trains move pretty slowly around that curve, and that could add a neat dimension; falling out of something as well as falling into a tunnel/hole, etc.

I totally agree with what Kevin has said about Griffon. I have nothing but positive comments about that ride. The thing that blew me away was just how smooth it was. Even though it is not a very long ride, it is unique and very enjoyable.

Nothing but positives about Griffon from me as well. I found it to be extremely re-rideable. Hanging at the top and then being thrown over the edge was exhilarating. I love what they add to a skyline as well.

I went on Shiekra when visiting Busch several years ago, and one place that I see room for improvement for would be lowering the holding break a tad so that more of the train is actually vertical. The huge weight of the trains might be why they keep it pretty high though. Other than that it was a great ride, and the one that is described in the memo has 2x as many features!

I'm excited that Cedar Point is going with the 8 across trains. I wonder what kind of impact that will make as the ride goes through the course? It's also exciting that this ride is 400 ft. longer than SheiKra and has 4 inversions to go along with the vertical drops.

Allegedly.

I guess i'm a little late to the party on this topic, but since this memo sound more like a propossal to be choosen i'm just going to propose this

I know that thats El Toro but its just supposed to represent that a woodie of that size could fit there, Cedar Point has enough Steel coasters for now, they need a great woodie considering they only have 2 and one is pretty bad. I wouldnt be mad with a dive coaster, i liked the Griffen, but just not now

To me, maybe it's just me, I don't think that the area of Good Time Theater is a great place for a woodie. I think woodies look best towards the back of parks or in large wooded areas(I realize CP doesn't have many of those). I think Mean Streak is in the perfect woodie location and I really don't know where else I would want a woodie in the park. Maybe between MS and Gemini? If CP was ever to do anything with MS, then I would hope they would try to get rid of the dead end back there, similar to how I hope they get rid of the Blue Streak dead end whatever they do to that area.

How have we already made the leap that anything bad is going to happen to Calypso?

It appears to be in the way, like everything else within 100 yards of the theater. I don't get it either.

Stop trying to make "CFEC" happen.

ROUNDABOUND.

While tis still all rumors and speculation I think a Dive Coaster would be a great addition to CP’s ride lineup especially since there aren’t many Dive Coasters in the US. Having ridden both Griffon and Sheikra I hardly think they are “gimmicky” (try a ride in the front far left or right and then tell me its “gimmicky”). Going underground is a nice touch, but not necessary. It would sure liven up the BS midway with the entrance there, oh and goodbye Antique cars and Turnpike cars, do we really need three of these type of rides? With that said, here we go again, it’s all rumor and speculation on a forum where everyone is an expert. Let’s just enjoy Rogaru right now, the ride that everyone here said would and could never be built.

Back to the subject of Calypso. I had my fair share of working Calypso for a little while, and I can honestly say that ride has almost no mechanical down time. If there are still parts to maintain the ride, it is unnecessary to get rid of it. The only downfall of Calypso is that it can't be operated during even the lightest rain due to the platform becoming slippery. If they have better traffic flow in that area or at least put Calypso in an area that is better viewed, then it could be a decently popular flat ride for families.

In terms of Turnpike and Cad cars, according to the numbers, they aren't nearly as popular as they once were when they were installed. Having that many car rides in one park almost seems redundant, even though some people have a preference over the other one

^ TwistedWicker, I see your point of having three car rides in one park being redundant, but I feel like just removing one(turnpike cars) would be better and you could still have that family ride in both the front and back of the park. My Idea is that maybe they could re-route the Cadilac cars to accomodate the new proposed ride in that area.

If this does happen, i would like to see just the Turnpike Cars removed. Cadillac Cars are nice with the entrance right on the Midway, i would miss the smell. The Dodgem cars are fun and you would think they could build around it and upgrade the area. Calypso could be relocated across from the Extreme Sports stadium where the 3 point shootout is (former Chaos location).

Four family rides removed plus a Family oriented show venue is a bit much and putting in a 54" height requirement rollercoaster in that location would definitely upset a lot of families.
