The Coliseum isn’t a candidate for a dark ride. Under that plaster are century old iron rivet beams. To “revamp” the building you would effectively have to tear it down which defeats the point. To “design around” you would defeat the point of using the raw square footage it represent. Then you would have to relocate all services and space within the building to other quarters. Bottom-line? Too expensive and it wouldn’t represent revenue generation in the same way renovating the Hotel does.
If there were a purpose to systematically renovating or just gutting the structure it would be to create improved convention/meeting space. Something that would generate money. Something it appears they are doing with the Grand Pavilion this year. The upper and lower levels would need air conditioning…something the arcade needs badly. You would have to build elevators, which could be done on the back of the building without having to deal with the interior structure. My point being that you can do something with the place, and maybe they should. The question is what and why.
As for “the view?” You can’t see past Cedars from inside the park anyway. It is employee housing beyond that. Finally even if you tear it down you have little view of the lake anyway. If there were a place to dump a dark ride that is it.

If they can build elevators to make the ballroom ADA compliant, I think that would be a cool venue to have night time dance parties with live bands. Kind of like the function it was built for. They would need food and a bar in there to get people to keep spending money, Different genre of music on different nights, Keep it open a few hours after the park closes and you would entertain day guests and also have a nice venue for hotel and marina guests.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Utilizing the ballroom is a great idea. Luminosity gives off the late night party vibe, but the showy aspect isn't for everyone. Does anyone know if McClure uses Hildebrandt's old office up there? If so, maybe he could come out and party now and then. :)
In a YouTube video by Coaster Studios titled "Cedar Point adding a B&M Dive Coaster in 2016 Part 1", at the 1:49 point of the video, the narrator claims that Cedar Point said that the Turnpike Cars, Cadillac Cars, Dodgem and Calypso will be removed towards the end if the 2015 season. Complete fabrication? I've heard nothing from the park, anyone heard anything official?
If that were true, not sure how I feel about removing four family rides for a coaster.

Oh, Pete, you don't believe what that kid says, do you? Or that he would "learn" anything from Cedar Point? In his videos he only repeats details of the latest rumor as if it's breaking news, then opines at length as to whether he thinks it's a good idea or not.
As for your family rides, we should assume they're safe for now. Watch his Part 2.
That Coaster Studios guy really annoys me. All he really talks about is what he thinks parks should get and rumors. This is off topic but he once said Cedar Point should get a polar coaster. I for one think this would be the worst decision Cedar Fair would ever make. Those things are the ugliest things that have ever happened to the amusement industry. I also believe they are a dumb way to waste a record on a 500ft coaster.
.
CoasterStudios is the same kid who said that an invert was impossible for Kings Island last year. I always take his videos with a grain of salt.

See what cable "news" like Fox, MSNBC and CNN does? Kids today don't even know what news is.

He did say in part 2 that "I made a mistake; that is not confirmed information."
Clearly the best place for a correction. :)
The only thing i can see fitting in the coliseum building is a boo blaster or wild mouse. And if they took out the arcade for a boo blaster, I would be very upset. Besides, as a lot of people said, the arcade makes so much money. Sometimes i go in there promising myself i wont spend more than $5 and end up spending $20. The arcade gets the best out if me. I'm a victim :) . Anyways with the GT location, i highly doubt that they would tear down a giant building to build another giant building. I feel that whatever is going in that location will be an outdoor attraction.
I do think we over-estimate the interior size of the Coliseum however. Remember there is a facade on much of the exterior, the aracde arches are simply plaster lathe, and when you actually stand there a bit, there really isn't any practical way or purpose to attempting to jam anything inside of it.
This is one of those CP Fantasies that is popular to dream about however impossible it is in real terms.

And I don't know where he's from, but he says "cooster". So, no.
Not trying to make it seem like I have factual information on this or tease about this topic, but in terms of Calypso, I've been dying for months to let you guys know that I heard it will be relocated within the park and not removed. That's all I want to say for now.

THANK YOU. I was beginning to think I was the only one who wanted to claw my own ears out every time I heard that word.
