Yeah, some of you need to stop be naive. Golden Ticket awards goes to who advertises the most in the magazine. The end.

^I think that is a very ignorant assumption to make. This is how the process works: the magazine has voters that make the decision. The winner is then announced. The publishers of Amusement Today have "publishers picks" awards that are given out each year. You are pretty much saying that Amusement Today alters the votes. Busch Gardens, Schlitterbahn, Dollywood, and Knoebel's have all been 14 year old winners of something; those parks did not buy their way into their positions.

^ Exactly Sophia! SFMM might have more coasters than us, but its not about quantity, its about quality! That's what makes up the Golden Ticket Award, not the number of coasters, for example, by adding a bull crap coaster, such as Green Lantern, to take the crown. We removed wildcat that takes up pretty much the same size as Green Lantern because it wasn't Cedar Point quality. Pretty soon Six Flags is going to be back in Chapter 11 bankruptcy again because they feel the need to try to one up Cedar Fair *rolls eyes*

Quality's definitely the most important, yeah. I can't remember what park it was, but I can remember that they had so many coasters yet nearly half of them were either boring or violently bumpy.

Kennywood definitely comes to mind.

Since this is the closest i could find to a thread about removing or renewing current rides.

I think cedar creek mine ride is sitting on some prime real estate. They should replace it with a newer attraction. Keep the same name, only make it a real runaway mine cart type ride... a wild mouse with a mine car theme. Have it half indoors (in a faux mine shaft/large shack) and half outdoors over the water.

The ride is exceptionally rough... and not eben entertaining for kids

Seriously? It's about money? Wow....

Haha, maybe, but I've never been there so that can't be it from my end. :p

YES! That would be the perfect place for a more thrilling, smoother, and better themed transition (family) type coaster.

I would argue that Mean Streak's real estate is just as prime. :) CCMR would be perfect for the family if the height requirement could be lowered to 46".

^Exactly! And after going to SFGA yesterday for the time and riding El Toro, it made me realize just how badly the park NEEDS a woodie like it. I know some people want a GCI in Mean Streak's place, but I really want an Intamin woodie like El Toro. That thing was crazy! One of those would contribue nicely to CP's coaster collection.

Chuck, I've had the same thoughts. Perhaps if CP were to invest in new trains with separate restraints for riders, they could indeed lower the minimum height to 46", or maybe even 44".

And since Arrow is defunct, I should think the discretion to make such changes would be in the park's domain.

Oh, and by the way, did you know your avatar has a little Dick? ;)

I don't think anything should be done to Mine ride other than bulldozing it. I didn't even enjoy it when I was a kid; it was rough, dull, and unexciting. The purpose of these transition (family) coasters is to give that "first experience" to kids and to encourage them to ride bigger coasters; I really don't think that's something that Mine Ride does, at least not nowadays.

I think it would be a much better investment to build a new family coaster there that's both smooth, better themed, and more exciting. The mining theme is perfect, and I think that would make for an amazing new transition ride (though I don't want to get back into the whole debate about building new family coasters, but if they were looking to build a new less extreme one, I think Mine ride would be the perfect candidate for a replacement).

I think I'd rather have Mean streak re-tracked with those metal tracks like The New texas giant got, I'm sure that'd make it a lot more fun for everyone, maybe even make it faster.

I feel like I've ridden a completely different Mine Ride than some of you. Aside from the too-high ride height requirement, the ride seems ideal in thrill level, theme and use of land.

Now that DT is being bulldozed it seems as if a new ride must take the ire of the CP enthusiast community. Apparently if its not 300 ft, its on the chopping block to some.

Not at all, i bet most would say maverick is awesome and it is far from 300ft. I think that since they have taken out 2 coasters this year (dt/wildcat) were are desensitized to loosing coasters now to get better ones.

Its now about improving the quality of our lineup. The mine ride, im sad to say may be overstayIng its welcome. For a starter coaster its awfully rough these days. Its old, as far as a family coaster/ kids coaster the theming is non existent, and the layout leaves much to be desired. They could add something much more exciting there and keep it a family esque ride.

The only problem MR has is its antiquated cars/restraint system. The second hill (lol) is a nice drop to the water and the helix at the end is fun. I can remember riding it for the first time as a kid and thinking it was very fun. So basically what I hear is anything old should be torn down. Hey Magnum rides pretty rough at parts too...lets tear that down. Theres plenty of room for expansion without the cost of good classic coasters.

I really like CCMR, too...especially the final helix. But without something to hate on anymore, I fear that attention will be undeservingly turned to another coaster. Can't we tear out enough 3-point shoot out games and collectively gain enough space? Just saying. :)

Eat 'em up, Tigers, eat 'em up!

If Cedar Point keeps adding coasters without taking ones down, they are going to have to invent a day with 30 hours. There's not enough time to hit everything in the park in one run. Maybe that's the master plan, make everyone need a 2-day pass to experience the whole park.

For the record, I don't mind Mine Ride at all.

Don't need the families to riot if they take out mine ride. With how they reacted to dt being removed.

Cedar Point fan logic:

While Disaster Transport is running - "Oh man, this is the worst ride ever, its so ugly!"

When Disaster Transport is gonna be demolished - "WHAT!!!!!????!!! CEDAR POINT YOU GUYS ARE SO DUMB CAN'T YOU GET RID OF SOMETHING ELSE!!!! IT WAS SOOOOOOO AWESOME WHAT A GREAT RIDE I'M GONNA BOYCOTT THEM FOR TAKING DOWN MY FAVORITE RIDE!!!!!!

That is so true.

I dont think anyone would have a problem with removing mine ride if it was replaced with a newer mine ride.
