Maybe he meant the Greek word "Logos"

"Logos-n. Philosophy. The rational principle that governs and develops the universe."

Maybe he was thinking that the principles behind developing a successful amusement park universe is to build a crap-load of coaster.

Corkscrew Follies's avatar

Yeah, he should look up Geauga Lake to see how that turned out.

No. Cedar Point has lost their Coaster Capitol of the World. They very well might lose their golden ticket for best park. They need to put coasters in to secure their spot.

Wow, I wish I could live in your simpleton world, must be nice.

FY!, Cedar Point will never lose that title because "The Roller Coaster Capital Of The World!" was trademarked by Cedar Fair in 2008.

As many have pointed out on the forum, having the most coasters in one park isn't important to most guests, having a good time with a nice variety of rides and attractions while feeling they received good value is where its at for most guests.

Roller coasters definitely aren't everything, but they're still important for a good balance.

And CP already has a few of those. That is, if we're going by the definition established in this conversation. Why add more of the same when some variety is so desperately needed?

Two is an okay number, but what I was trying to get at was that I'm comparing them to what they used to have. Maybe that's not the best thing to do, but I really care about the park and want it to be fun for everyone, not just me.

This is totally my opinion, but I felt DT and Wildcat were the best family coasters Cedar Point had. They were always my favorite, and even in my late teens, I still enjoyed riding them.

I think the best way to emphasize my thinking is to visualize them removing half of my favorite coasters now. Which means, Millenium, Maverick, Magnum, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill would be out this season. I would still have Mantis, Raptor, Blue Streak, Gemini, and Mean Streak, which would be okay, but it's just the idea that I lost a lot of what I used to care about and used to ride.

If I never knew the other rides existed, I may not mind as much, but knowing what they used to have and comparing it to what they have now makes for a much more difficult situation.

Sure, two transition coasters may be acceptable, but I've always viewed CP as having a bit higher standards than that.

And you're right, the new transition coaster shouldn't just be more of the same; it should be new and exiting and innovative. Family flat rides do bring joy for the whole family, but I know a lot of kids really have their coasters pegged up on the top of their list, and those are the rides that they remember the most.

Cedar Point as been fortunate over time in that their family coasters used to be record breaking thrilling coasters. When corkscrew first opened, didn't it break some records for inversions? And wasn't Gemini the tallest in the world for a short period? Those two could be considered family coasters (although I would disagree about corkscrew and some will disagree about Gemini). But Blue Streak was once a tall fast monster now it seems tame.

The point is, more recent rides will never become family coasters. Millenium and TTD and Maverick will never be tame like Blue Streak and Iron Dragon. So Cedar Point won't be fortunate to have time passing be their built in family coaster designer anymore.

That being said, there are still plenty of family style rides and coasters at the park and look for more after the 2013 coaster is built.

Well B&M usually has smaller height requirements than Intamin, I think, so this will be more family friendly than the other coasters in the past decade.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

^ Actually, that statement actually might be the opposite. There is no B&M roller coaster that has a height requirement below 50" (Wild Eagle is the only one). All of their rides actually have a 54" height requirement for the exception of a couple hyper coasters.

Intamin roller coasters have height requirements starting at 48" (Millennium Force) and most have the 52" requirement now. (Maverick and Wicked Twister, Bizarro, Xcelerator).

True, but only B&M has fat guy seats.

I believe 'American seats' is the correct design term.

I honestly never thought of it that way. You're right though, it seems like their collection of transition coasters was actually created by the rising standard in modern coasters.

I propose a new amusement park that consists of nothing but 20 Vekoma Boomerangs. I mean, by simple operation of logic, it would have to be the greatest park ever built, and a lock for the Golden Tickets, right?

I don't disagree that "they" want that. I just disagree that CP's focus should be on coasters. As much as I love coasters, CP probably has enough, for now. There are more obvious holes in their attraction lineup, in my opinion.

You know, the logo of almost EVERY park in the WORLD is a ROLLER COASTER. Hmm...

LMAO CoasterBoi, I appreciate your posts. They give me such a chuckle just because of how false they are. Read up on business, it might help you in your arguments.

You're kidding right? I already know its been discussed....but lets look at Intamin's biggest coasters at the park-
Millennium Force-48 inches
Top Thrill Dragster-52 inches
Wicked Twister-52 inches
Maverick-52 inches.

Lets look at both the B&M's at the park...both 54 inches. B&M usually has 54 inch height requirements on their rides. It isn't too bad because kids can usually hit that height by the time they're 8-12 years old. 48 inches is the "dream mark" for kids though coaster wise because it usually opens up a wide variety of different coasters.

As for the disappearing 80s, it does seem that way, but it's all just a coincidence honestly. Space Spiral wasn't built in the 80s :p

^ Exactly Sophia! SFMM might have more coasters than us, but its not about quantity, its about quality! That's what makes up the Golden Ticket Award, not the number of coasters, for example, by adding a bull crap coaster, such as Green Lantern, to take the crown. We removed wildcat that takes up pretty much the same size as Green Lantern because it wasn't Cedar Point quality. Pretty soon Six Flags is going to be back in Chapter 11 bankruptcy again because they feel the need to try to one up Cedar Fair *rolls eyes*

This made me chuckle, because it reminds me of the people who play Roller Coaster Tycoon "to win" by min/maxing their rides and trying to build the smallest, cheapest coasters with the smallest footprint but highest stats, and then use them as nothing but prefab units to win the scenarios.

Sounds like that's what Coaster Boi would rather have.

^If it works on RCT then of course it would in real life. Cedar Point is so dumb...

Quality's definitely the most important, yeah. I can't remember what park it was, but I can remember that they had so many coasters yet nearly half of them were either boring or violently bumpy.

Six Flags in general isn't as clean or safe as Cedar Point. The ticket goes to best park, not most coasters.
