Demon Drop 1983-2009

It is funny to see all the guessing that is going on about what they are going to do with the space where Demon Drop sits! Either way I am still bummed that we are losing another great ride to another park!!!!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

Don't worry, we may be losing a beloved classic ride for now, but down the road when Cedar Point adds a new coaster in that spot, we'll be appreciating that just as much as we did Demon Drop. I wish demon drop good luck in Knots Berry Farm. Hopefully the people who go there will enjoy this ride just like we did. As of right now though, some people in California aren't too happy about this move.

Even though Demon Drop was built the year after I was born, I had never ridden it until 2003. It and Chaos were the only rides in the park that terrified me to much to ride. DD because of the sounds it made and Chaos because I know it will make me sick (still haven't ridden chaos). In 2003, the year I met my now wife, I finally went on it. Not because I was talked into it, but rather decided I had nothing to loose. We rode it twice that day, and killed my back doing so. Since then it's usually a once or twice a year thing. I will miss the few rides I usually get, but will miss the sight of it even more. It is one of the very few rides that i could sit and just watch in admiration. It is an icon of the park and will missed a great deal.

^ I wonder what the special contest will be, maybe an idea what to put in that area once its gone? (Just kidding! But that would be cool though)

I would guess that it will be something similar to what they did when White Water Landing was being taken out.

Given the length of the brake run, I'd say they could indeed put a building in its place--the world's longest Lemon Chill stand!

I haven't ridden it (or any coaster) in years, and I always hated DD personally. But it surprises me to say that I will miss it...it is distinctive and menacing, and certainly has been a fixture at the park. At least it's staying "in the family."

Someone said it best when they said it won't be the same not hearing that clunky clank as soon as you walk in the park.
Maybe they'll put a speaker there to play the sounds of Demon Drop. :)

In regards to the squabble about a coaster extending into a behind the scenes area, Sheikra seems to handle that challenge with ease:

I know you guys are talking about a wooden coaster, but just thought I would throw that out there.

Exactly. And I was never talking about a wooden coaster.

And once again, that is a simple, straight shot road. I am talking about full size semis backing in, backing out, and driving around back there to make deliveries, not just driving around in a circle. They need more than just a two lane road worth of real estate to do that, and all four of those vehicle corridors back there around the warehouse are needed/used regularly. Once again, I'm not talking just driving straight through, I'm talking about making deliveries, which means backing up, turning around, and doing the same to leave. But whatever, I'm done.

Maybe they'll put a speaker there to play the sounds of Demon Drop.

You know...I think that would be a horrible idea. ;) It really won't be the same walking into the park and not hearing it, though. There goes some of that atmosphere, at least temporarily.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Dude... WTF? Never (not ever; at no time) did I suggest the posited attraction would exist within the area you're talking about.

If what you say is true, how does the current fence & gate not interfere? How do the first 3-4 rows of the parking lot not interfere? You're going way out of your way to make an issue where there absolutely isn't one.

In another post...The blue includes two vehicle corridors that are used quite often...

Notice how I say all four vehicle corridors are needed/used on a regular basis. Two of those four are completely included in the area you highlight. Although the delivery point is in one of the two corridors that aren't included, the other two are used. And yes, Crazy Horse is right, you don't get a feel for how that space is used and how tight things can be back there from the sat picture (or Birds Eye with an empty lot).

What corridors, exactly, are you even talking about?

But yeah, you're right. Engineers could NEVER figure out how to build a ride over/around access/use points. Going to the moon? Piece of cake. Building a rolly coaster over the top of a road/path? Fughettaboutit! That's just too hard!

Whatever ends up being put in in DD place i'm sure will be cool and well worth getting ride of DD. Whatever it is, a new flat or a new coaster, i'm sure will will all be happy. Cedar Point needs a new ride in the area of the park. DD leaving is not that big of a deal. Cedar Point will be better off in the end.

my fav. rides:
1) Top Thrill Dragster
1) M-Force
1) Maverick

I know the reason that DT's building can't be removed. My sister told me because she used to work the ride, and it's very believable too. But I can't say it on here because she said it's confidential and "guests are not supposed to know", but she told me anyway...:)

I guess you can imagine that old buildings can't be torn down that easily because of certain reasons...

I'm pretty sure your sister is full of it.

Problem is that Hoffa and Elvis are living in the DT building and where would they go if CP removes it? That and how can you remove the building where the moon landings were filmed when that building needs to be used again in 2020 when we "return" to the moon? ;)

Darn, Jugga and GoBucks beat me to it. Although I can't say I ran across Hoffa or Elvis while I was exploring in there, it may be true. ;)

It was built with environmentally unfriendly and unhealthy materials that make scrapping/recycling next to impossible, like...asbestos insulation? Not quite sure about that one, but something tells me your sister was pulling your leg.

Dj, by corridors I mean the empty space available for vehicles to drive in (wherever there isn't a predetermined parking space, and not all of them are clearly marked or marked at all). I think that should be easy enough to see, although if you haven't seen it personally it may be more difficult to understand. And almost all of that empty space back there, needs to remain empty space. So here's the challenge: Without taking out parking, stands, or necessary free space in the backstage area (about 90% of it), connect the Demon Drop area with the Disaster Transport area.

How are you deterimining necessity? Is it because the trucks currently use it to turn around/make deliveries?

I know truck drivers aren't rocket scientists, but I think even they can figure out how to adapt if the space gets modified. The same way the engineers can design the coaster to leave enough space available for them to do that.

Secondly, just because there are offices there now doesn't mean they couldn't be relocated to another place (like that shiny new building by corkscrew). So, there's no reason that any/all those buildings are untouchable.

John gets it, but I'll add...

Why couldn't they remove, say, 3 rows of parking in the main lot? It wouldn't have a major impact on the overall lot capacity, and it would allow connecting the two areas.
