As much as it is my displeasure to be the first to break the news, our beloved iconic freefall Demon Drop will be leaving us at the end of the season. It is being moved to sister park Knott's Berry Farm for the 2010 season, replacing the old Screamin Swing, with construction beginning Janurary 4th, 2010. Scroll down to page two of the .pdf to read up on more of this end of an era.

Removing a perfectly good S&S swing so they can move Demon Drop across the country? I'm not buying it.
Well, this would explain why it's listing was removed from Ital's website. I'm just glad it's not being scrapped. I've gotten plenty of rides in this year. But, I will definitely be there on closing day to get a couple more.
The S&S is an upcharge attraction. Perhaps they have future plans to install one of the larger non-upcharge models.

The Swing is also only going to be 6 years old next year. Unless there are maintenance issues with the ride, given that is was the first of its kind, I find it somewhat odd that they'd remove the ride so early in it's life.

When I was at the park in the Spring of 2007, they had the ride half disassembled. If this was part of their regular maintenance, I can see why they would want to get rid of it. On the other hand, it's not like Demon Drop isn't going to have it's own maintenance challenges.

Assuming this document is reliable, it only states that Knott's Berry Farm will add a freefall Demon Drop. Though the picture is from CP, it doesn't state that Cedar Point's Demon Drop will be removed.
There are only 4 operating in the world. Six flags got rid of all of theirs. I don't know all of the parks that had one. I'm assuming they were all scrapped. The one that was imploded certainly was.
I have a list of the other operating Intamin 1st Generation Free Falls.
Mr. Cedar Point: Chaos is for sale. It was confirmed by the park that this is their Chaos. If they were planning on moving it, it wouldn't be for sale.

Story seems legit. Working on confirmation.
After visiting the park this past weekend and hearing it straight from someone I trust who isn't one for stupid rumors, I'm 99.99999% sure this is true. I was originally skeptical, but after seeing the story brought up, I'm sold.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
This seems bizarre to me...is Knott's "buying" it from Cedar Point? Or, since this is an "in-house" move, is it just shuttled from one park to the next?
Promoter of fog.
Maybe the GM's of the two parks agreed to a swap. Demon Drop for Mrs. Knott's Chicken Restaurant. (CP could be so lucky).
I don't understand this at all...why would you move Demon Drop from a park that has Power Tower to a park that already has Supreme Scream? Demon Drop would do much better at Michigan's Adventure or any other CF park without a drop ride.
It may have something to do with the cost-per-capita that CF supposedly uses for their rides. If Demon Drop carries a high maintenance cost, it would require being in a park with high attendance. In that light, Michigan's Adventure could never compete with KBF.

Wow as if my day couldn't get any worse. This makes me sick. I guess I know how Busch fans felt when they removed BBW. :(
Let's Get Weird.
If I was looking at the next area of the park that needed some attention I think I would choose the area of the park at the front generally outlined by the Demon Drop, games midway and Disaster Transport.
Now, there are some buildings back inside that area that may have to stay...such as the games warehouse and cash control....but removal of the Demon Drop and Disaster would open up a nice area to work with.
The ??? in that is why Demon Drop would go to Knotts. I agree with others that it doesn't make a lot of sense. Knotts has limited space and this might be a cheap way to add an attraction (that is familiar to Southern California enthusiasts) that would eat up some people off the midway but require a relatively small footprint.
Otherwise, well, I'm stumped.

If the park doesn't et a GCI in place of Demon Drop, I'm not going to be happy. Even if that happens I still don't know if I'd be happy...

I don't exactly know what to think of this... I guess we'll just have to wait on a confirmation.
I'm with you guys... puzzled. I really just figured Demon Drop would be standing at CP until they just decided its time was up and they scrapped it. Maybe CP is finally taking some pro-active steps to expand in that section of the park, and rather than just scrapping the ride they decided it could be used at Knott's. That's the only train of logic that remotely makes sense, in my mind.
