But I doubt the investment in Toy Factory would save Disaster.
Why are some of you so amped on disaster transport leaving? Even if they did take out disaster, what could the fit in it's place? If you look at the ride closely, it really does not take up that much room. I don't know of any wooden, or other type of major coaster that could fit in it's footprint. Do you think Ma Kinzel wants a loud wooden coaster in her back yard?
Besides, it's a great starter coaster for thse "soon to be" coaster riders(even though you have to be 46" to ride it for some reason).
And you really can't play connect the dots with a ride that starts at disaster, and ends at demon drop. There is just too much in the way.
I was misquoted here... I didn't say any of that.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Crazy horse, Yes mean streak has its costly part because it is a massive structure. Any wooden coaster over 5000 ft is going to be a maintenance nightmare because there is so much wood to watch out for. The Beast and Voyage are both extensive to check out. The Beast also has its own Maintenance Crew. The only reason why Maverick is popular is because it is new. Look at Mantis. Mantis dropped 750'000 people in ridership in 12 years. Millennium Force's Capacity is also slowly dropping. Magnum-xl-200 the most popular single tracked attraction has dropped 400'000 people in 12 years. Maverick's popularity will slowly sink when it gets 5 years from now. Cedar Creek Mine ride is closer to maverick. It has about the same ridership as Mean Streak. Skyhawk is less than MaxAir. Why? It has a disadvantage because it is back so far. Everyone agrees that Disaster Transport is going to go. Why tear down an icon woodie at Cedar Point when you can tear down a parking garage structure that can have many possibilities for the front of the park? Cedar Point wants to expand out. Disaster transport will be there only way to expand out without this structure in the middle of the area.

Everyone agrees disaster is going to go?
Mean streak is an icon?
Removing disaster transport is the only way to expand?
Does that sum it up?
And the differance between mean streak and the beast and voyage, is that the beast and voyage have very high numbers. Mean streak does not. So those parks can justify keeping those rides going.
You can't polish a terd.
And just to let you know, a ride that just so happens to be in the back of the park has nothing to do with it. Mean streak has higher numbers than blue streak(at the front of the park btw).
Over a million people rode maverick last year, and mean streaks numbers barley moved from before maverick was built. Why is that?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Cuz the ride sucks. We all know that. I don't think anybody is saying it doesnt. Yes MS sucks. Ok? We get it. MS will go soon don't worry. Cedar Fair is messing with the front of the park right now. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
Let's Get Weird.
All I can say is... here we go again! Let the speculation continue for another year or two... christ.

On screamscape it says Screamin' Swing is going to California Great America, Demon Drop going to Knotts, and Cedar Point gets NOTHING in return ??????????????
^ Like i said mean streak is an the most disadvantaged area.
The Beast and Voyage have high numbers because there isn't as many thrilling things at the parks. Not so much kings Island but Holiday world. The Beast is so popular because it is one of the best wooden roller coasters in the world ever built. I am not saying Mean Streak is 10/10 rating. I am saying Disaster Transport is going to go first because they want to try something new in the front of the park. Disaster Transport has the most pathetic theming i have ever seen. Why would they re theme a ride that is not appealing to the public as much as it should be. It makes no sense at all to keep a ride running that is collecting sand.

Instead of just tearing down Disaster Transport, why not move it to Michigans Adventure. I'm sure they wouldn't mind having it at their park. I mean to me it's a nice quick ride. It's not as good as Flight Of Fear at Kings Island, but it's still a nice family ride. I'd hate to see it completely vanished from Cedar Fair.
Mean Streak on the other hand might take years before they take that out. In order for them to take something like that out lets say for 2011, they would have to start demolishing it at the end of 2009. Look at how they started on Maverick for example.
^They could leave the building behind thoough. I'm sure MA doesn't want a giant box.

The ride is appealing. I keep telling you to look at it's numbers. The numbers have not gone down that much since it was built. Look here... http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/disaster_transport/index.cfm
If it was such a dud, why do so many people still ride it? And where did you get this "insider" info that disaster is leaving or getting re-themed?
As far as the beast and voyage, youre the one that brought that up. And holiday world has world class coasters other than just the voyage. They broke an attendance record this year also. Holiday world is much more than it's great coasters.

I am still wondering why they are taking out Demon Drop? They did not give much notice or if they did I didn't hear about it! I will miss seeing that when I get to Cedarpoint! Another good ride leaving Ohio! It would be nice if they put a floorless like Dominator in that area... just a dream thought....
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
Shawn, that is the most interesting idea I have heard about Disaster Transport in a long time. If they were to remove DT -- a big if, one that I'm nowhere near convinced is happening any time soon -- Michigan's Adventure would truly be the perfect home for it. A smaller coaster like that is perfect for a lower attendance park.
Plus, Cedar Fair probably could return it to its original Avalanche Run incarnation; I doubt the park has as much to sand to deal with as was the case in Sandusky. Another plus: I speculate that AR would be easier to dismantle, ship and reassemble than many tracked coasters.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
^ Ensign, I like your idea about restoring its original Avalanche Run at MIA. It is short and good for the little ones. Would the building at Cedar Point around Disaster Transport be hard to take down though instead of just blowing the whole thing up?

We are definitely getting something in return...
We will be getting something new and shiny in that spot, patience my friends.
I'm wondering what its gonna look like next year on opening day though. Just a patch of grass or new games or what?
Let's Get Weird.
Disaster Transport better stay!! It is a great family ride and its 46" requirement makes it hard to justify getting rid of it. Sorry everybody, but i don't see DT leaving anytime soon.
As far as the numbers go i don't see how the line moves slow. Our crew this year had several members that could easily hit 900 to 950 riders per hour. Considering MF has about 1200 its really not that much different. From the entrance sign to sitting on the train you should never have to wait longer than 15 minutes. The only time the line ever stopped was when a basketball came up the queues or we had to measure someone. Then it usually turned into a huge argument and backs up the line.
2009: Demon Drop/Disaster Transport/Turnpike Cars/Sky Ride
2010: Back to the 12E!!!!
One thing I don't understand about disaster transport, is the 46' height requirement. Why so high?
I took my daughter to six flags chicago a few weeks ago, and she was able to get on the demon(an arrow corkscrew with 4 inversions) And the wizzer. But she can't get on disater transport?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

Do you guys know anything about Cedar Point's rides?
Do you know anything about how Cedar Point measures ride expenses?
Do you understand why lines form?
Length of line does not indicate the popularity of a ride. Lines represent the difference between how quickly people get into line and how rapidly the coaster takes them away. A single turnstile can accommodate approximately 2,400 PPH.
Cedar Point does a per-cap measurement on each ride. They know exactly how much it costs to deliver one ride on any attraction in the park. That, combined with the depreciation schedule for the ride, determines their attitude towards the ride in the absence of a major capital project.
It's not about what you personally think or want. It's about what fits the park's business needs. Put another way, don't count on either Disaster Transport or Mean Streak going away anytime soon. There just isn't any evidence to support either of those conclusions right now.

Er, have you heard of Shoot the Rapids? At least Cedar Point is getting a new ride!
