Or a nice Gravity Group. Like Voyage, Boardwalk Bullet, or Ravine Flyer 2. Cheaper and better capacity than GCI.
Pepsi Refresh is saving one coaster at a time: http://pep.si/bTTsfc
This move really surprises me. I mean I knew eventually it would be gone, but I didn't expect it to happen now. I'm just curious, was there a news article to this unexpected move?

This really upsets me! I love the Demon Drop! It gives me a rush that is hust right! Power Tower scares the crap out of me! It seems like every ride I really like keeps moving!
I agree! I am really bummed about the news! Demon Drop was the only drop ride I had the guts to ride, I don't like Power Tower at all, I just love Demon Drop. It is an iconic ride and I will miss it dearly. It has always been one of those first things that I think about when I think "Cedar Point," so this...ugh.
Not like I haven't been able to see it coming for 3 or 4 years now, but that doesn't help. Things change with time right?
Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~
I always enjoyed Demon Drop's true free-fall as opposed to Power Tower's cable-driven thrust. I get a twinge of regret for getting on DD every time once we reach the top, and I'm jaded enough by thrill rides and roller coasters for that to be a rarity.
I was able to ride it this past Saturday, for what likely might be my final trip this season, so at least there's that. I'm guess that for many, this ride was the first truly terrifying thing they'd ridden, and it's quite sad to see this rite-of-passage leaving the area. I am, however, happy that it won't be scrapped just yet.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

But I doubt the investment in Toy Factory would save Disaster.
Why are some of you so amped on disaster transport leaving? Even if they did take out disaster, what could the fit in it's place? If you look at the ride closely, it really does not take up that much room. I don't know of any wooden, or other type of major coaster that could fit in it's footprint. Do you think Ma Kinzel wants a loud wooden coaster in her back yard?
Besides, it's a great starter coaster for thse "soon to be" coaster riders(even though you have to be 46" to ride it for some reason).
And you really can't play connect the dots with a ride that starts at disaster, and ends at demon drop. There is just too much in the way.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Yeah, it does. If you take out DT & DD, you could easily fit a ride the size of Raptor in that area, without removing any buildings or touching the parking lot. Take out a few rows of the lot, and you've got an even bigger area to work with.

Raptor, one of the loudest rides in the park, is only a couple hundred yards further from their house.

The sad part is that I see many families ride Demon Drop together! Power Tower is too crazy for me! I hope they would consider moving it somewhere else in the park first before shipping it out! That is a landmark when you get to the Point, bit it is 26 years old! I wonder how it would take being moved? Just some thought....
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
I will make sure to give this a few rides for the last time this weekend.
I always liked these kind of drop rides because they sound so clunky and dangerous even though we all know they aren't. Ending up on your back was weird as well! Could you imagine one of these on a huge scale? That would have been something! I will miss hearing all the weird clunky trash can smashing sounds at the front of the park, as well as the ride itself. Hopefully sometime soon CP can get a GCI or something up in that area of the park to draw in some more people. It seems like even after adding WT and MaXair, that part of the park is STILL dead!

Seeing as how the ride has been for sale for a little over 4 years now, I'm thinking the land will be used sooner rather than later. I'm thinking 2011-2012. The park is typically working on about a 5 year plan with their larger ride installations. In addition Chaos is for sale. It wouldn't suprise me if when ever the new capital improvement comes to fruition, Chaos will be removed, Troika will be put in it's place, Disaster Transport will be removed and something much better will go in the place of all of it.
I never thought about Troika moving to the Chaos location. But that does make a good deal of sense. My only concern wtih getting rid of DT is, it is a ride the whole family can ride. Granted the effects dont work, but its still something that the whole family can ride. I believe that if they are getting rid of DT too, then they must have some family coaster and/or dark ride planned in the future. It doesnt even have to be in that spot. It can be in another section of the park(I don't know where). In the end, I'm sad to see Demon Drop go. But I've got some great memories on the ride and I will always have them. It will be a good addition to KBF. Furthermore, If DT is also removed, my money is on GCI woodie to built in its place.
BTW. I think they could keep Happy Jack's where it is. They could just save that part of the building I think.
Yep, look at an aerial view of Disaster Transport, then turn towards the back of the games, then turn again down towards Demon Drop. You can fit a large coaster in that space. Moving Troika to the Chaos spot makes sense if this occurs.
It really is too bad that it is leaving, it is such a fixture at CP and it is hard to believe that it is 26 years old. I was on it on opening day 1983 and it was one great thrill and I still enjoy it a lot.
I've heard these rides can be maintenance nightmares, but Demon Drop seemed to run well and reliably for the most part. Probably a tribute to CP maintenance.
Hopefully the weather will be nice closing weekend so I can get a few more rides in before it leaves.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I'll miss Demon Drop. I too like to hear that clanking sound upon entering the park. It's a classic ride, a CP icon. It still puts a grimace on the face of people that look up at it and say "no way am I going on that". I'm glad it won't be scrapped, yet I wish it could stay. I'm glad we found out before the season ended. Hopefully as many of us as possible can get one last ride.

Yea, but in order to do that you have to move/ tear down a lot of obstacles. There is the cash office, a warehouse, games, food stands across from disaster, toy factory, space spiral and troika. Not to mention the security gate and employie area back there as well. They also use that area for parade staging and storage.
They would have to do a lot of rearranging in that area.
Now what would make sense is if they did take out disaster, they could use that space AND the space on the beach behind wicked twister and disaster transport. That part of the beach is closed anyways.
A loud wooden coaster 300 feet from her house would be quite a bit more loud than raptor is now.
But again, why take out a coaster that is still popular?

Wrong. The area currently occupied by DT and DD, and the area "in between" the two is huge. Take a look here. The blue space is what would be freed up with the removal of only those two rides (though it does include Space Spiral - a coaster could easily route around that).
A loud wooden coaster 300 feet from her house would be quite a bit more loud than raptor is now.
Yeah, not even close. The distance between DT and the closest house on the peninsula is easily over a quarter mile. And Raptor is only another 150-200 further.
But again, why take out a coaster that is still popular?
Popular is a relative term. Relative in terms of age, maintenance costs and the value of the land on which it sits.

DJ - Raptor is also shielded by numerous building the deflect the sound it creates. A wooden coaster on the beach would be nearly unobstructed from the houses.
Still don't think its an issue, just pointing it out.
