Cedars

Since you work in the hotel breakers as a reg clerk. Call your manager and ask about getting housing within the hotel breakers.
I lived there 2 summers ago in the Twin section (not the rotunda) and we had our own bathroom, air cond. , mini fridge, cable tv and its 4 people per a room. It was not bad at all, and you wake up to a beautiful view of the magnum and TTD :) if your planning on partying though in your room, not a good place to live bc you will lose you job, because you are in a hall way right next to guests.
It is reserved only for Guest Accommodation Employees and a few TGIF Waitress and Bartenders

edit: P.s. I suggested calling your manager instead of HR or Housing because they will say that housing does not exist so contact whoever is the one that hired you within guest accommodations and they will take care of you.

Cedars is a nice place. It's very old and historic, and has not changed. You hear a lot of bad about it, but it really isn't that bad. The rooms are bigger than the ones at Commons, you're inside the park (walk to work/park). Parking is still across the park by Space Spiral, but oh well. It's fun, but you have to make it fun and attempt to enjoy it. Don't live there with a bad attitude. It does house a lot of foreigners and "weird" people.

Commons has smaller rooms, mile away from the park, and is a mini-Detroit. Much more modern, though.

Don't diss Cedars, it's not all that bad, and I would live there again if more of my friends did.

I definitely remember you complaining about Cedars.

I complained about Commons too, though.

I used to have a room in the Cedars where we could shoot bottle rockets out the window so they'd explode right over the little security shack by the railroad crossing!! Great fun!!

I am going back to Cedars again this year because it is quiet and you don't have the po-po's over there every night like at Commons because of theveing. To make iving at Ceadrs nice all you need is a tv ac and there is apparently wifi in the lounge now. I would go with the Hotel Cedars... as it was called in 1915.

Couple questions from a newbie:

Does anyone know if Cedars will be open yet on June 1st? What time of day is best to process in? I'm coming in on Greyhound at about 4:30 since that's the only afternoon bus to Sandusky. I'm guessing that's too late to process in so I would have to check into housing the night before my process in date, right?

1. Not sure the exact date but June 1st is about the time it opens. You will know when you process in.

2. The best day and time is any day other then May 4th. Thats the day that I and just about everyone else is processing in.

3. I would arrive the day prior to get into housing and get settled in and that way your actual processing in day is shorter and much less stressful.

I am going to Process in on May 9th, I am going to check into housing on May 8th, probably in the morning. Since Cedar will not be open yet as you are saying, Does that mean that I have to move into a different place then when cedars open then I move in there if I decide to. I have heard so much about the CPPD around the commons and I would rather not have to deal with them. Plus I would rather live on the beach instead of within a barbwire fence and feel like I'm in prison. I would like to live in either Bayside or Cedars. Based on what I have read, Its going to be hard to get into Bayside. My Manager said something about housing trying to keep people in financing together but when I talked to housing, they didn't know anything about that. They said the only rooms that they save are for Auditors. I am so confused about the way everything works in housing.

By default you will have to stay at Commons (Bayside WILL BE FULL). I would go with the Dorms if I was you. Yes CPPD will be in full force and every night is one loud outdoor block party. You learn to get over it but you may want to get some Ear Plugs. Then after a few weeks you can move over to Cedars when then Internationals show up. While its common for many departments to room together (Rides most common) it is not always the case because I was Foods and both of my roommates where in Games. Long story short, Stop over-thinking things. Just go there have a ball. HR, Housing, and Look for employes that are wearing a Pin with Snoopy on their uniform. It will have a number on it indicating how many seasons they have completed so you know they will have just about any answer you seek.

I called Housing today and asked them a couple questions. They said that Cedars will be open sometime between opening weekend and June. She also said that it costs 50 cents/day extra to have a window a/c in your room in the cedars Plus $25 install and removal fee. Their people have to put them in and take them out so its done the way they want. She wasn't sure if they were going to be able to do payrole deduction this year for the 50 cents/day extra for the a/c. Atleast they only charge that to the person that brought the a/c and not everyone in the room. I just hope my room mates will be nice enough to help pay the cost for it, if not no biggie but since they are enjoying the colder room, it would be nice for them to help pay for it.

How much room is there in the Cedars? I was thinking about bringing my32" HDTV up with me, I know there is no cable in those dorms so I wasgoing to use my HD antenna to pick up local channels. Is there anyplace to put it in the room, and does anyone have any ideas of how tosecure it so it don't "grow legs and walk away".
I am going to be working in Revenue Accounting, and was told that I wouldn't be working until 5 or 6pm, so I will have allday to find stuff to do to fill my day. Should I just not bring it upwith me?

Cedars has a lot of room, but I wouldn't trust anyone with a 32 inch HDTV... it'd be gone.

Is there any way to lock it up, I could probably put a bike lock around the base of it, but the base can be removed with the right size Allen wrench. No matter what you do, it can be undone.Nothing is completely tamper proof.

CP_Obsessed_Freak1987's avatar

You won't really need it anyways. You won't be in your dorms that much. Something that valuable...ugh, I wouldn't. You can't really lock it up in Cedars.

i am planning on bringing my laptop. I bought a laptop lock that has the new style key, Its like flat like a house key, kinda. Not like the tumbler key that most key locks have. The cable is 4.5mm thick and is made up of 3 layers that are suppose to be the best. Kensington gave this lock the Premium Safe classification. Of course if someone really wanted to sell it, they could but it would at least make it harder to do. Is there some where that I would be able to wrap the cable around in those dorms? I wish they had lockers in the cedars like they do in the common dorms? it don't make sense to me why they don't have the same stuff in both style dorms. Where can i put stuff at in the room to keep it safe? or does it just come down to trusting your roommates and hope they respect your stuff?

When not in the room look the lap top around the bed and if you have a case put it in there. Also if you have enough room to look the zipper get a luggage lock for the zipper they are $3 at kmart and it is secured twice and they would have to take the bed to pick at the locks at their leasure.
