Cedars

I'm considering staying in the Cedars Dorms, but this is my first year and I've heard good and bad stuff about them. Honestly, how bad are the living conditions? If they're adaptable, I would prefer to be able to walk to work rather than take the bus (I don't have a car). Thanks!

Cedars is great because you can walk to work and it is cheaper than all the other housing.

Sadly, everything else about it isn't so positive.

It's livable and if you're not picky about many things, it's perfect.

I really like it. Only thing is, you will definatly need an air conditioner. I dont care how bad you think you need one, if you plan on living in cedars, it is worth the expense, everything besides that is not bad. You arn't in your room that much anyways. Does anyone know when Cedars opens though?

End of May, beginning of June, depending greatly on how the weather is behaving, I believe.

Cedar is so scary and run down that I would avoid it like the plague. Plus the things that go on in the showers/restrooms. YEAAHHHH. FYI, CP has ALOT of homosexual employees. Yeah Cedars is the cheapest and rightfully so but the only good things about it is that you don't have to take the bus and you can just walk to work other wise if you have a car then Commons (or Bayside if you are really lucky) it is then.

I stayed in Cedars last year with a buddy of mine who persuaded me to move there. I lived in the apartments my first year in 2006 and had heard everyone tell me that Cedars was a dumpy place, that it was not worth the cheap price. So last year I was kinda apprehensive about going to Cedars. Once I moved there though I was glad that I decided to give it a chance (the apartments, at least to me, then seemed dumpy compared to Cedars). You dont have to wake up as early to go to work because its right there, when you're done with work you dont have to wait to get outta the parking lot (or wait for the bus if you dont have a car) and drive all the way back down the causeway and find a parking spot and then wait in line to get your ID swiped to get into commons and then have security hassle the hell out of you as soon as you get into commons (the time it takes to do that you will have already been back to your room and showered and changed and ready for the rest of your night) and trust me on those HOT HUMID MISERABLE days all you want to do is get outta your uniform ASAP and into a COOL shower.

And definitely listen to GAM man68, you will definitely want to spring for an air conditioner becase it can AND will get HOT as hell. Plus it s so awesome to hang around with and make friends with all the internationals that will live there, they ARE AWESOME!!! Plus on your days off when you want to hang at the park all you have to do is step outside and your there, there is also the employee cafe right behind Scrambler and it has a much bigger selection of food then the employee rec thats located in commons. Also the view from Cedars is AMAZING!!! It is right there next to the water and then on the other side you have the wonderful views of Millenium Force and the rest of Cedar Point, as opposed to the awesome BARBED WIRE FENCE that surrounds commons (Cedars is wide open). There is a dock right next to Cedars that goes past Famous Daves and out into the lake and that has an awesome view of the lake and Sandusky. I have fond memories of hanging out there many nights.

Last year when we lived there we had a mini-fridge and an air conditioner and we stuck up some posters and kinda made the place into our own...thats all it pretty much takes. I for one will be living back at Cedars again this year.

I had even managed to throw our awesome crew party in my room, I have talked to many people who have not lived there and have negative opinions about the place, basically judging a book by its cover...give it a chance, at least try it before completely knock it.

...oh how I loved waking up 10 minutes before I have to work and STILL being on time...

You have to accept that and move on when you work at CP.

Majority of the international employees live at Cedars. Their way of living is a little different from ours in the U.S., this is very apparent when living there.

Working/living at CP is what you make of it. I had an AC for most of my time at Cedars and would never go through another July or August without it. I had a corner room in what I think was the "E' wing which looked horrible, but was very quiet all the time.

I have lived in Commons and Cedars and here are my thoughts. It is not going to be nice anywhere in Cedar Point housing. Why not go where it is convienent and cheaper. With that said, it does have a smell that is unique to that place, and make sure you wear shoes in the shower beacuse they are nasty. But being able to walk to work is sooooo nice.

Was that necessary?

It definitely wasn't. The straight employees are just as bad ;-)

Ahh the B wing eh?

Ahhh.... if I could only smell the damp wood right now.....

Look, compared to commons, Cedars is not as bad as people make it out to be. I worked at CP for 7 freakin' summers and would not have lived anywhere else.

First off, Cedars is way more sanitary than commons. The amount of garbage, puke, and god knows what else in commons always made me kinda sick. The "unique" smell of Cedars that was mentioned earlier isn't really due to germs and waste (like commons) but just a musty goodness based off the fact that the hallways are open air and the wooden building is like 800 years old.

I know commons has the amenities of cable and that crappy rec center thing, but someone in your room in Cedars is bound to have a DVD or video games, and you can all go in together to get AC, as it is hot. Also don't forget that some of the other amenities commons has are more CP police harrassment, noise, fighting, and waiting for the bus/fighting traffic.

Above everything else, Cedars has the atmoshpere of "living" in the park. Waking up to the sound of the coasters, walking like 4 minutes to the beach, staring across the bay to Sandusky, or just leaving your room and taking a stroll in the greatest place on earth whenever you feel like it.

Look guys, after I got out of college, I joined the army and that's where I am now (Ft. Benning, GA). And when it starts to get warm like this, every day I miss Cedar Point and Cedars. Trust me, live there. Don't let the over-exagerrated rumors about Cedars fool you. Cedars rocks.

Imust agree that Cedars is the place to be. Plus, word on thestreet is most all of the rooms have been repainted and refurbishedwith a bunch of newer furniture from the Sandcastle Hotel renovation.

I guess there's something about living in a quaint oldbuilding...perhaps it gives one a taste of what it would have been likevacationing at old pre-causeway Cedar Point when you got there bysteamship and had only one roller coaster to ride.

BTW if anyone will be in the market for a mini-fridge and/or air conditioner I'd like to make a fair deal!

I believe I am actually going to give Cedars a try this summer. I've stayed in Commons the last 4 years during Halloweekends, and some things there were bad enough even though I was only there two nights a week. I've heard the bad things about Cedars, but I've heard enough good things on here to give it a chance. I'm liking the idea of walking to and from work and not dealing with traffic.

I may indeed be in the market to pick up an A/C unit, because I do not want to spend a summer without that. I need to talk to my potential roommates to see if they've had better luck at finding one to borrow for the summer than I have.

You can get an air conditioner at Wally World for less than 90 dollars....

Is their a parking lot at cedars that you can keep your car at? And, if you do get an air conditioner, you just stick it in the window or something? My rooms here at college, the windows are screwed up, and you can't really get an AC in em'. I don't know, cedars probably has normal windows, dumb question.

You would just keep your car in the employee parking lot (behind space spiral/disaster transport) and walk to cedars.

You have to put in a request and maintenance will come and do it for you. I should also mention that if you do have A/C they add like 50 cents a day to your room charge for the extra electricity it uses, so sometimes if you are that worried about that 50 cents, you could wait untill mid june or when it gets hot to have it installed. There might be an installation fee too, i dont remember for sure though.
