I still don't understand why CP would big such a big ride after Wicked Twister, it is just not like them at all to do all of that capital improvement in such a short period of time.
-------

I don't remember where I read it, (I am wondering if it was the notorious interview about leaving a little room for air) but I seem to remember an interview with Mr. Kinzel discussing the unannounced 2002 addition. He stated that there would be capital improvements in 2002. But if I remember correctly, he went on to say look toward 2003 for additional capital improvements.

I am not 100% positive of the quote, but it seemed to me that it was implying to look to 2003 to be a bigger spending year than 2002. But I am not sure. I just remember reading the interview and not expecting a new ride.

If I find the interview, I will reference it.

I am not sure why people keep bringing up the two year equals a new ride theory. I just looked at the history of Cedar Point and the only year that i would say nothing 'major' was added was 1997. Every year a nice amount of money was spent on attractions and a new ride was added most of those years. Maybe they were not Magnum or MF calibur but they still came with a hefty price tag.

Does anyone remember the article that was in the Sandusky newspaper last year when they found out about the station and other details about Wicked Twister from the city council meeting? At the time I thought the amount of concrete they said Cedar Point bought was a fairly large amount for just Wicked Twister. This is just an off the wall idea but could some of that have been used for this 2003 project? Let me add that I know nothing about how much concrete would be needed for a ride but what they bought seemed like a huge amount.

Let us assume that this 'new ride' for 2003 is a coaster. What if it went down the lagoon by Mantis and Iron Dragon? The MF island would then only have to be used for the support structures for the track. When i was there a few weeks ago it seems to make more sense to 'shoot' it down the lagoon and use the "Area 51' as the turn around element such as a Top Hat. That would mean the station would be in the Corkscrew area. This also puts the 'launch' going right down the midway and 'interacting' with the masses of people. Remember, Cedar Point is very, very good at putting major coasters in small footprints. That is just my take on what could possibly happen.

I agree with that theory somewhat, Here is what I think.

The launch run and station will start in front of corkscrew extending towards area 51. Chaos, Troika Troika Troika, and/or paddlewheel will be taken out or moved. The giant tophat or whatever will then kick the ride out back towards the East end of the island. A few huge hills or turns on there and the ride will leave the island heading towards Iron Draggin ending around there.

I think it will be a little more than a one trick pony like Xcelerator but probably wont break any length records.

The world I love, the trains I hop, to be part of the wave, can't stop.

Thats what I said a couple pages ago. As for the supposed 'footers on the beach' they are nowhere to be found by my eyes. But I only looked over the fence by DT, so i think we can rule out the ride going over that-a-way.

It just amazes me that if this ride is going to be gigantic that Cedar Point would want to over-shadow MF so quickly. It (MF) will only be 4 (or 5) years old by the time this "new giant" comes around. I just don't get why CP would cash-out so early on such a great ride... but then again we don't even know what the new ride next year will be.

oUluvDT2 - Yeah, and I rode the sky ride and nothing was visable from there either. Although, I did see a survey guy walking around the beach behind Disaster Transport...but that probably just had something to do with Wicked Twister.

Almost 13,000 views. Wow. Hope everything is holding up ok there Jeff. Your servers are getting a workout from this one.
I was actually thiking that the two footers that are visible in area 51 are for the launch runway, right after the station. And i think that the inverted top hat will be where troika is right now. Choas and Troika are going to be moved elsewhere for this. I have no idea as to what they will do with the layout, but they will do something cool.

Someday's it's just not worth chewing through the restrains.

I agree with everything Joe E. said concerning the launch except that I don't see them moving Paddlewheel Excursions. I looked at that area more closely and if the track is elevation on the launch, people could walk right under it.

I am also even more confident of the launch area, ride removal, and use of Area 51 as one of the top hat bases. Sadly there are a bunch of funky, cool looking trees that will meet the ax...as well as a "Guess your Weight" booth, but at 5.00 a pop, I don't see many people being too upset by that. Also, by looking at how huge Xcelerators towers are, and how far apart from each other they are, I think that CP's version possibly 2x as big and wide could easily bridge the gap between the island and Area 51.

Travis If the server handled the "New Ride...Place Your Bets" thread, then the server can handle anythng. Don't worry though. It's fine! Thats what they're built for.

Ahhh..... that thread brings back memories!

Yes it does. M
If this thing comes true ;) I sure don't want to see the bottleneck this new "attraction" is going to bring. Hopefully, the "entrance" to the "attraction" will be in a better area!
Why would they dig 30ft for launch footer? I think this is going to be the tallest part of the ride. I think there just going to use one large tower instead of two for the tophat. It would be cheaper also then building to large towers and pouring all the extra concrete. The back poles of the tower will be the tallest and hold the most weight, which is why they’re so deep, and they had to dig and pour them early. The others two that will hold the beams going from the top to the ground will be dug and poured later as with the rest of the footers. Forcedude04 drew a picture of what we think the support structure would look like. It would be like Wicked Twisters only taller. http://community.webshots.com/photo/44266979/44267296PaCDYU

Remember when everyone was afraid that the building of MF would create a bottle neck at Tenderfoot Pass? The park knows what they are doing, and that huge pedestrian tunnel was the result.

Oh my god. Those footers in Area 51 look just like the ones for Xcelerator. Why does that mean that they are for?? They also look like the ones for Wiced Twister and Millennium Force. Maybe capacity isn't good enough on Millennium Force so Cedar Fair is gonna take a page out of the Six Flags book and start cloning. Only they are putting it in the same park. But that's just my two cents. ;)

Hoping to work at The Point in '03 so I too can get drunk and pee on VertiGo

What's to say that the towers won't be like Xcelerator's? Yhey would just have to pour the two other footers for one of the tower bases where Area 51/ the group of trees are. I think that the only reason they poured those footers early was because they wouldn't be able to progress with construction that close to guests.

Agreed. IF CP were to get a new ride, I think it would be something new and different, rather than another world's tallest, fastest(but maybe a world's tallest and fastest of THAT type of ride). If you have a 300 ft. coaster, I don't see a 400 footer coming in the near future.
