Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

With all of the fog (again) it would be a heck of a setting for halloweekends right now!

How far done is the flume? They have had quite a bit of it done for some time, and with the initial turn out of the station now done they have to be nearing completion of the flume.

I ask because, as amazing as this is to say, they should be testing this bad boy in what? 3 or 4 weeks!?

They still need to pour the portion of the pond nearest the CPLERR tracks (they're prepping this area now), but beyond that, it appears that yes, the rest of the major concrete work is complete. Before testing, they also need to complete the artificial rock work prior to and beyond the final drop.

What's the normal window for testing coasters/rides? I have seen where they need to log a certain number of hours, but the exact amount of hours, or time frame it normally takes to achieve said hours, I have not seen.

Looks like work has begun on the artificial rock work for the island. They look like they're almost done. The tunnel still needs to be built, and of course the rock work that Brandon was referring to. They also need to finish the storage building, the splash pool near railroad (from Brandon), and finish the decking on the exit. Other than that, I think everything else is just themeing and what-not. Other than the ride photo building of course.

^I'm not exactly sure either, however I believe that the ride manufacturer, as well as CP, will require a certain number of hours (I don't even have a ballpark) to ensure that everything works ok. I'm guessing that most of these hours will be logged by employees that are training to work STR.

Not to mention however many hours it takes to finally figure out the height requirement.

They still have to set up whatever theming they have. Oh wait they already did the concrete and dirt.... ;)

Nice update.

Looks like white water landings drop. I think they called it a "hydroflume".

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Sweet update! Looks like they aren't skimping on the rock work at all. Awesome to hear MaXair and SRF are getting fresh paint too.

Was it expected that Snake River Falls was going to get painted, or is that news?

Maybe Millenium will get a surprise paint for its 10th too then?

That would be a nice surprise. And glad to hear about the touch ups for maXair and SRF (which I think was known for a while).

99er said:Just because Kings Island is close (within the same state) to Cedar Point, I don't see how the trip down there was work related. No more than a trip to KD for a ride on I305.

I was just referring to the fact that it was a pointcast as apposed to a general photo/blog update. Speaking of which, YAY for being proven wrong. Cant wait for the 305 update as well as my trip later in the summer. :D

SRF definetly needed a paint job. Kind of strange MaXair got a paint job. I didn't even think it needed one! They could have used the money to paint maXair on MF instead which needs one badly!

That's probably an $8,000 paintjob as apposed to a $1,000,000. ;)

So Pointcast = work, Blog = leisure?;)

I'm just messing with ya. We both know Tony doesn't actually work anyway;)

From the looks of the Webcam, TONS framework/rebar for the rock work at the last drop has been installed. The exit ramp also has a solid surface! They are taking full advantage of this warm weather we are having this week!

^^You're actually almost right lol. The blog CAN be done at leisure as apposed to the pointcast being mostly work related since there's far more involved. Thus, it's far easier to take pictures and upload them than it is to haul around the expensive camera, set up the shots, have someone to operate the camera then edit the footage and upload it to the site.In all, I think photos are the easier route.:)

Never the less, we all humbly thank you Tony for when you bring back proof of the 305 Intamin goodness. :D

The tunnel framing has begun!

So, what does everyone think about the waterfall? Will it go in or not? My guess is not and that's a good thing. It looks as if the rock work will be going in though which will be cool. I hope they have a dripping effect that comes down on you like they had with WWL in its early years.

^I think it will go in, and it will have a variable effect. Meaning they can adjust the angle of the falls to either soak the riders (on a hot day) or act as beautiful scenery, to the side of the riders (on a cool day).

Interesting stuff going on at the top of the webcam right now. I count 5 white cans over by the storage building. Even more interesting, the digger, 2 dumptrucks, and a white work truck are all on the island, while they are tearing down the dirt bridge. I wonder how they are going to get back over, seeing as they are digging from the wrong side? :)

Tunnel framing is about 60% done! :) The rest of the frames are just sitting there.

EDIT: Looks like they can drive across the Terror Island bridge. Interesting. I didn't know that it could hold that much weight.
