Are all the new large steel sit down coasters exclusively featuring over the shoulder restraints? It seems as though MF and TTD were the last Intamins to utilize lap bars. I 305 has no inversions yet ots, correct? I've yet to ride so I can't pick between the two, but it seems like the restraints give MF a leg up. Sorry about the rant but just curious. All the talk about CW possibly getting a giga made me think about it. I guess I'm not quite sure how this fits this thread.

The reason why I305 has the OTSR is to support your upper torso while hauling asphault through the transitional turns. If you didn't have them, there would be about 100000 cases of broken backs on a daily basis.
As for CW getting a giga... I'm sure they learned from I305 v.1.0 and hopefully it will have the same type or new type trains as MF so it will have lapbars. I like the BlueFire trains over in Europe. I know they arent Intamin, but hopefully they could design trains like that on the new giga.
As for CP new attraction... I feel like it is going to be HUGE! I think its going to be one of those coasters/attractions that will blow any and everything out of the water. And it will be in 2013...
Nonsense. The OTSR is a passive restraint. It has nothing to do with the forces of the ride. The design of that restraint secures you by your lap. The shoulder straps are for decoration.

^That's kind of what I thought. Even with TTD and Kingda Ka, it seems like having more freedom makes for a better ride. I need to ride I 305 yet, so I can't say on that. Watching the POV, though, it looks to have more elements from Maverick than MF without inversions but it seems like lap bars would work.

No way they are for decoration or I think it would have been lapbars originally. But it would be freaking cool if the trains were Nascar themed Formula Russa in Dubai.
I would feel very safe and comfy riding I305 with only a lap-bar. In fact, that restraint is what makes it a little less enjoyable than MF.
Promoter of fog.
Has anyone seen the news today coming from Hershey Park? I know this is a Cedar Point fan forum, but that coaster looks cool.
It does look like a cool new seat design...I can imagine a lot of arguing about who gets the outside seat. I think Cedar Point could improve on that layout.

If, you know, Cedar Point designed coaster trains.
;)
I don't see why there'd be any more arguing about seating than there already is. How many arguments have you witnessed in Raptor's station, for example?
Brandon
Hey guys just in case you don't know yet, yesterday at the park they rolled out a red present roped off with velvet rope next to snoopy at Planet Snoopy, tag reads "To Snoopy Do Not Open Until August 7th" just giving everyone a heads up

Brandon, I can tell you from working Raptor in 2008 in terms of seating, way to many arguments!

They did the same Peanuts thing last year, and it wasn't a ride announcement. Given that there's nothing suggesting a new ride for next year (and at this time last year, we already knew what CP was getting this year), I wouldn't hold your breath hoping the "surprise" is relevant to a new anything for 2012.
That a ride host witnessed arguments about seating doesn't surprise me. It would surprise me if those arguments had a significant enough impact on capacity to warrant considering a different train design.
Brandon
You could have single seat coaster "trains" and people would still fight over seating.

With this year looking more and more like maitnence year, I'm hoping they decide what their going to do with disaster transport. They need to either give it a facelift or give it the axe because its sitting on some prized real estate. Also, I know their probably a thread for this already, but could iron dragon be leaving us soon? And could that forested/lagoon area on iron dragon possibly an area they could put those dinosaurs on, or the next big attraction. I know iron dragon runs on a pretty consistent basis, but those arrow inverted coasters seem to have a life span of 20 to 25 years. It's been 24.

^ no coaster is leaving cedar point any time soon even though it would be nice if they tore down disaster transport. and Iron Dragon will probally be the last arrow suspended and cedar fair will remove flight deck or vortex for parts if needed

I think Iron Dragon will stay for a while. It is still running very well and is fairly reliable. But at the same time, that is a substantial chunk of land for a new attraction.
Does S&S or Morgan make extra parts for the old Arrow roller coasters? If they don't, maybe the 3rd Iron Dragon train is being gutted for parts.
