BIGGEST CEDAR POINT MISTAKES

In the park atmosphere category, I'd have to say
ditching the Berenstein Bears for the Peanuts was
a sad, sad mistake. I had every BB book when I
was a kid, I'm 22 years old now, and going to the
park and seeing all the BB stuff made me smile
and really made me feel like a kid again, which
is what any good amusement park should do.

Camp Snoopy and the various Peanuts merchandise
just makes me ill... it just SCREAMS "marketing
ploy"... and a sad marketing ploy at that. How
popular *are* the Peanuts these days, anyway?
The sheer amount of Peanuts merchandise in any
given sovenier shop is disgusting.

I guess it could have been worse, though. I'd
rather look at Snoopy than have something like
"Camp Britney Spears"... (insert vomiting noise
here)

..end of rant..

Rrrrrright... MF may not be the best coaster ever, but it's certainly not a mistake!
So I'm asking myself, what do I miss most or what bothers me the most? Peanuts I'm used to and I'm embracing finally...Fascination, I sucked at it!...Mantis and Mean Streak can be annoying but have their moments. What comes to mind is how I wish that Blue Streak didn't have the oranges/headrests; the ride just hasn't been the same and now that I see rides going back to freer restraint styles I miss the old BS. The cartoon ride signs without a doubt, since now that I know Dorney still has theirs! (MAYBE they'll come back, but seeing they are at DP and not CP makes me sort of figure out what might have happened...) Johnny Rockets is rather annoying I hate to admit, because I get tired of burgers/fries everywhere! Malts, we have malts coming out our ears as it is. We already have Coasters, and CP was in a hole in the 50's...why bring in 50's stuff? It just doesn't fit to me, but the GP probably doesn't notice a thing. :( Eh, it's purely emotional but someone asked :)

Biggest mistake... tie between removing the dark rides (Pirate Ride, Earthquake) and building Avalanche Run.
IMO the most glaring mistake is the lack of true family coasters.  They only have two (WE, Gemini Jr) and only one of them really bears mentioning.
This makes a visit to CP a very, very long day for CoastaMidget (my 4 year-old daughter).  At least she doesn't have to stand in line, thanks to parent swap--but you should see the heartbroken look on her little face as she stands in a coaster's station.....silently watching the grownups whip around the track, screaming in delight.
A certain park to the south offers her at least four coaster choices--SIX if she wears the right pair of shoes.  MF or not, which park is the better choice for the whole family?
There is absolutely no reason on earth tiny MA should have more family coasters (Mad Mouse, Zach's Zoomer and that little steelie) than America's Roller Coast.  None.  This is an outrage.
I say they should start with some family lumber, then look into a custom Arrowbatic.  I know!  How about a 70' high inverted racing, dueling mousie?  A twin design could yield 1600-1700 PPH and the originality would give it that unique CP style.  I can only wish...

Just to point it out, Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a family coaster, too.  Certainly, you cant say it is wilder than an Arrow Mad Mouse like at MA.  CCMR is also quite a bit less intense than WE.  And to stretch it a bit, Disaster Treansport and Iron Dragon are pretty tame rides, too.  And what about that big Peanuts thing taking up enough room for my CCI woodie....there are so many kiddie rides that I see and think "Wow, if I were only three feet shorter..." ie: Frog Hopper, nuff said.  CP caters to every member of the family cept maybe grandma, it is a family park and your four year old shouldnt have much trouble finding something to do.

Yeah ID and DT are family coasters...at least nowadays. When they just opened maybe not. :)

Iron Dragon was the first coaster I ever rode and that was at the age of 7. I definitely count that as a family coaster.

CPlaya, I understand where your coming from.  What's worse is my oldest daughter at 16 is only 5' on a good day.  Consider how old she was before she could ride.  It would be good to see CP build more rides with a smaller height requirement.

On the subject of CP mistakes, it was a sad day when CP quit making their own salt water taffy.  It used to be considered a signature product by many of the people I know.

I was freaking short until a couple years ago and I hated it! If I would have been tall enough to ride Magnum at 7, I would have.

Instead, I cried my eyes out for 2 hours as the rest of my family waited in line. That sucked...but I vowed revenge and 2 years later, when we went again, I conquered the Magnum.

I was just over than 48" stick August of being 6 years old...and just over that 54" stick when Raptor came out. I was a tall kid, but now I'm only 5'7"...

The Mine Ride is "family oriented" - but you have to be 48" to ride it. My 4 year old isn't close to that, but I know he could handle it since he can ride Thunder Canyon Railroad at DisneyWorld. ID and DT have a 46" requirement - a 4 year old is also not close to 46". That having been said, I also want to make sure my kids are safe when they ride the rides - I'm not asking them to decrease their height requirements.

A little wilder Woodstock Express coaster for kiddies would be great.

My other son was 6 (this year) when he first rode MF. He's really hoping to hit the 52" for next year so he can also do the PT.

I'll have to check out MA - I live in MI but haven't been there because I thought the only point would be for Shivering Timbers.

Taking out Shoot-the-Rapids and replacing it with White Water Landing, and the loss of the upside down house.  they both make me wish it was again 1972 and I was seven.  Grandpa just couldnt figure out why he always got wetter than everyone else ;)

The TV in line for Mantis instead of a DJ Booth. The TV is never uncovered, and when it is the color is all messed up.

I agree Nick, I think that when they paint it this off season that they should replace the damaged portions of the TV, or just install a DJ booth. I don't think I'd like another booth, though, since the DJ's are only present during certain times, and that they never play alternative or metal.
I first went to CP during the 1950s, so I've seen the park at its best and worst (my parents actually went to the park in the 30s and 40s). I was there last year (for the first time since about 1988) and really enjoyed the new resort feel of the place. However, I still miss some of the great stuff from the late 70s and early 80s, like Jungle Larry's, Oceana and the aquarium, the frontier carousel and frontier lift, the fun house and Kid Arthur's Court, the Cedar Pointers, the dark rides, and the old ferry to Sandusky. In some ways, I still like the place better than Disney World (I live in Orlando, now), but I really miss some of the "old" stuff.
I think you get the award for the GTTPer that has gone to Cedar Point the most decades! :)

One of the first mistakes that come to mind are all of the brakes on Mean Streak, that ride WANTS to rock, but it it being constantly braked, Its a monster ride that is not allowed to do its thing.....Disaster Transport.....don't get me started...much better when it was Avalanche Run.....I also think that Millenium Force should have circled the entire perimiter of the park, that would have rocked.
The trims aren't the mistakes, the designer made some though. If only some one would reprofile it, or if they could get some more articulate trains, so there isn't anymore bickering, and it can be released into it's original fury. I watched the original POV video, and this thing just wants to be unleashed.
