BIGGEST CEDAR POINT MISTAKES

Gemini, the aquarium was there long before Oceana was built. It was contemporaneous with the Fun House (the removal of which definitely goes in the top 10 mistakes).

Yes - 1970, I believe. But after Oceana was built, it was that staff that became the caretakers of the facility. Once the year-round Oceana staff was no longer at the Point, I'm sure the aquarium became more costly than it was worth.

Hear, hear on the Fun House and the Earthquake! Man, do I have great memories of those. Fun House lasted until at least '77 or '78 tho, as I remember it vividly and was born in '70. Or were you saying the aquarium went in in '70? If so, disregard.

I agree that Fascination will be sorely missed (I've still got 92 coupons!), but I wouldn't call it a mistake. It was 50 years old and replacement parts were too few and far between, from what I've heard. Better it went now then spend the next few years with half the alleys closed.

Disaster Transport gets my vote for biggest mistake. Avalanche Run was so-so, but if they were going to invest a few mil, why put AR in a box and add a few cheesy special fx in '90 rather than just tear the thing down and build a better, new coaster? Eventually, I'm guessing that's what will be done anyway.
My vote for biggest mistake? Putting in Camp Snoopy and then changing both the indoor and outdoor parts of Bearenstien Bear Country which rocked, to a cheesy snoopy shop and a snoopy playground thats a ghost town.

Well.....this is odd, but I have to somewhat agree with the Camp Snoopy thing....And I have two children....!!!

Although not the biggest mistake, I would agree it was an error of sorts...First off, yes, the playground is not anything like it was before...With Mama, Papa & the kid bears roaming around - it was fun....It was here my youngest met Papa bear and played blocks with him....Heck, Disney couldnt have created a better moment....

And when I took my youngest the next year to Camp Snoopy - she couldnt ride anything....Did you ever see the ride requirements on most of the rides? Its a pretty odd and small window for a kid to enjoy them. I was *really* disappointed that first year...As it is now, she is able to enjoy them, but most of them are basic fair rides she can enjoy elsewhere....Woodstock's Express is nice - but the Kiddie Kingdom has a far better and unique selection of rides you cant find elsewhere......

So, although 98% of the reason I go to CP is for my kids, I havent really had a reason to jump up & down about Camp Snoopy (we spend more time in Kiddie Kingdom).....and my youngest still laments the demise of Papa & Mama bear (I think she likes them more than the peanuts) and she is only 6 yrs old....that is how much they made an impression on a young and impressionable 3 yr old a few years back......
It was a big deal for me because I had always read the books, when I was younger Bearenstien Bear Country (which at the time was only indoors, I was 7 when they expanded it to the outdoor section) was my favorite place in Cedar Point! I'd be in there for hours and never want to leave!

Mean Streak was so much fun when it was new...now is another story. A STRONG brake in the middle of a drop is juat awful.
Another mistake, if it is true, is the running of only 2 trains on the Mantis for this season. I love that ride but refuse to wait an hour for it.

The Pirate Ride was fun, but vandalsim caused its demise.

he Pirate Ride was fun, but vandalsim caused its demise.

Shows how much the world has changed over the years. In the past, no one would even think of leaning out of a car trying to damage the ride or decorations. Now everything has to be armored, or covered by security cameras so people won't destroy it.

Last year at Halloweekends, I remember this kid, probably 8 years old, dragging one of the skeletons out from under the bus by the games area, and kicking it around. In full view of his parents. If I had done something like that when I was his age, I still wouldn't be able to sit down, and I'm 43. It's a sad world.

I know enclosing the Avalanche Run wasnt the smartest move, but i think its worse off when they started getting rid of the DT scenery. It took what there was to that ride and tossed it to the gutter.

Ill still ride it, cause i keep looking for the transportation device that takes me from ALaska to Ohio by walking down stairs. :)

This isnt a trolling question, or an attempt to make any of you mad, that said: What was facination, before last month the last time i went to the park was when i was about 8 and i hardly remember that trip, thanks
I was just gonna ask that myself. What exactly was Fascination. *** This post was edited by thrillman on 7/20/2001. ***
Berenstein Bears....??
Berenstein Bears?????? The only mistake was taking them out!!!
I might say MS all together. Those effects in the Maggie tunnel. I remember hearing them from Sandcastle Suites during morning testing. Ahh.

Mistake:
Hyping up Millennium Force as much as they (and we) did. I honestly like the ride, but I don't feel it lived up to all of the hype. Building the coaster was NOT a mistake, it is one of the best rides in the park, but didn't live up to the hype.

Taking out the aquarium and Oceana.
Taking away Berenstein Bear country.
Letting Jungle Larry's leave.
Not putting enough scenery into there rides.
Not putting enough themeing into Frontier town.
Taking out too many tree's.
Maybe not designing there coasters just a bit better.
SquishyPants...you must have hyped MF up more then me, but I don't see how that is possible. I knew the whole layout, covered the whole MF construction and lived for the diary updates. I wasn't the slightest bit let down, in fact I was more suprised after riding it. The experience is un-paralleled.

Not putting enough theme"ing" into Frontier Town? Are you kidding me? The rustic look back there is awesome, not to mention genuine...Cedar Point was around way before frontiersman that moved out west. They have all kinds of buildings, restaurants, shows, rides, coasters, and shade for a great theme back there. I think that the mountain that separates Frontier Town from the rest of the park just added more to the theme.

What do you think they could have done to design their coasters better?
