Hmm. OK.
So I am still not enamored with this ride being in that spot (only because I see it as a nice chunk of real estate), but I must admit I think the park is doing the best they can with its placement. I've always loved that little flying machine guy, and this makes it work.

I'm not too crazy about the placement either. I think that space could've been better used for a dark ride, log ride, a coaster or just about anything else. I'll have to see it for myself before I make any further judgement.

Something worth noting, Ripcord is only taking up half of the plot formerly occupied by StR.

Yea, my thinking is that there is something else in the works. You just can't not use that spot to it's full potential.
I almost made a post a couple days back with the notion that perhaps the park will actually give it a nod of theming, calling it "the hangman" or something (although upon reflection I suppose that's a bit morbid).
Like I said, at least this theme will make it gel with its environment. This is sort of like the extra touches they gave Ocean Motion a few years back.
Proof that a little bit of theme can go a long way. Just slapping "Ripcord" back there would have been terrible.

In his announcement Tony mentions a new section of the park.So I am guessing that RipCord (or PDFF) will not be the only new addition in the spot formally occupied by Shoot the Rapids in 2017.

Frontier town and flying machine is kind of a reach.
The frontier era is early 18th-mid 19th century, the Wright Brothers flight early 20th century.
The ride doesn't look too bad with its new colors, it will be interesting to see how much of the STR theming remains.
I'm sure you are aware that the idea of a flying machine predates the Wright Brothers by several centuries....

I that context, though, I think Tony is referring to the Frontier Trail as the new section; that is, it's a new section of the park for this ride. It was in the "Challenge Park" section, and now it's in the "Frontier Trail" section.
Not that they are constructing a new section of the park.
As mentioned above, though, there is more room in STR's plot.

WHAT? You're putting in where??
I don't get the placement or the name. 5 years from now, maybe it will all make sense based on what happens in this area of the park, but for now it seems really odd.
They replaced an unpopular flume ride in a less traveled area of the park with a low capacity up-charge thrill ride. Maybe it will be a cool thing when Paddlewheel returns in 2020 for the park's 150th.

I have faith in the new park and company regime, given the positive changes made in the last several years. There's much more foot traffic on the trail compared to the declining Challange Park area. Looking forward to seeing people fly over CP&LE rail road!

and yet still it has actually nothing to do with an actual flying machine.
What's next, the earth is flat kiddy kingdom ride?
A Dinosaurs alive exhibit ?

I agree, I don't care for theming at all.
It literally adds nothing to the actual ride experience.
With the advent of smartphones there's really no need to have to entertain guests in line, if looking at fake Egyptian or frontier artifacts really entertains anyone at all is debatable.

To clarify even further, it's only taking up half of the plot of land on the trail side of the lagoon and little to none of the Milly Island land formerly occupied by STR. So those thinking this prevents further use of the area are completely mistaken.
Oh and of course - I was right! My vision of how they could use the STR space appears to have been spot on. It will be cool to see what was just a speculation based on studying google maps turned into reality.

I don't get ... the name.
Professor Delbert was a character on Paddlewheel Excursions, who was going to attempt to launch himself into flight. The new Ripcord name is appropriate and tips its hat to the park's history.
Tony talked at NCC about Cedar Point looking to its long history as part of the process of naming rides and attractions.
Cedar Point Shores reflects the location of the waterpark and plays up the greater visibility of the beach CPS will have. He described Soak City as a generic name; given the name of the waterpark at Carowinds, I wonder if Cedar Fair will over the years rename other waterparks in the chain.

I don't think the V shaped tower is on the island.
Look at the second picture on the blog and you'll see that it is still on the station side of STR.
Looking at the images posted by CP and satellite images, it looks like the flight path comes relatively close to the Frontier Trail trees across the path from the petting zoo.

Too bad they didn't hold off before they re-used Shoot the Rapids. It's done for a while now.
Given how problematic the 2010 incarnation of Shoot the Rapids was for the park, I'm not surprised that they seem to be shunning the name entirely. Heck, I doubt we'll even see a tombstone bearing the name in future HalloWeekends.
