Yeah, the station is gigantic compared to what is needed for the "Fling". I think those prices sound about right, but I would expect they will be variable based on how many people the ride draws. Until some additional development happens back in that area, it is going to be a bit lonely for the Professor.

^I think you're underestimating the size of the pump building/electrical room. It's easily as big, if not bigger than the station is.

Though I suppose if they have no other use planned for the old station, why not use it?
Most likely this. Either the park spends money on tearing it down, let it sit empty, or use it. Plus the old gift shop may become something else for the Frontier Trail such as food, drinks, or merch. The old filter building isn't exactly in a good place to be used by guests not to mention they would have to theme all of it. They will probably use it for maintenance purposes now. So the old loading station is really perfect especially since the previous Rip Cord flight suit area was too small for busy days. This "new" location will be much better for efficiency.
The name references a character that was part of Paddlewheel Excursions. Tony Clark mentioned at NoCoaster this year that the park was, in part, looking to its history when naming new attractions. The Crystal Rock Cafe at Cedar Point Shores is another example of referencing the park's history.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
The island crossover bridge is behind the structure, hence before the lagoon. If the final splash pool was as big as the island pool, it would've been a cool flyover.
I don't think it looks that bad. The park officials have a plan for the future. There's a method to the madness! No need to worry about the future, enjoy what's happening now!
I know I've said it before, but seeing pictures makes me even more excited for the new location of this ride. I think this new location will make it a more popular ride again, with great vantage points for those not riding.

If I crop the picture down to just ground level and kick up the exposure, you can see the cross-over bridge kylepark mentions more clearly. This is the same picture as above. It was taken from the corner of the observation deck/smoking area closest to the StR entrance.
This doesn't appear to cross or affect the lagoon at all.
