I personally think it's more likely that this year we'll get some sort of water ride/water coaster in Frontier land, as a first phase in a much bigger project.
In my opinion, way too much needs to happen in that area to accommodate a world class coaster (i.e.: dueling flyers) while still maintaining the atmosphere associated with Frontier Town.
Cedar Fair has made it clear that they want to attract the whole family, and not exclusively thrill seekers, and I believe that the GP would not react as negatively at the removal of WWL if it was replaced by a new world class water attraction.
Over the 2006 season they would have plenty of time to sell, remove and ship away WWL, and also prepare the site for future development (i.e.: coaster for 2007!).
Perhaps worth noting that Dick Kinzel, the man who kicked off the coaster wars with Magnum in '89, is retiring the end of 2006... Perhaps he'll leave his fans with one last present for '07?
Just some thoughts...

Shootout wouldn't be bad for a dueling or racing coaster, and Bullrider or Tumbleweed would work for a top spin.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
As for the idea of a top spin in FT, I'd have to question if that's the right kind of ride for the area. This type of ride seems much better suited for the rejuvination of the midway near MaxAir. While this type of ride has a small footprint, little else about it makes it a good candidate for the area. I can't think of any reason that makes FT better suited for such an attraction as opposed to one of the midways... after all, this is a ride you can find at most carnivals every Memorial/Labor Day weekend(s)... is it really gonna attract many people back there on its own?
I would much rather see nothing go into FT rather than a carnival ride - there's just no way (at least that I can see, theming or no theming) it would truly fit or add to the atmosphere back there.

There are so many people that are working 2007 up to be some monterous year. I dont think there is any way that CP can satisfy everyone at this point. Everyone is rumoring that everything is coming in 2007, that it's gonna be huge, it's gonna be awesome, and there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO validity to that! It would seem to be the case but everyone talks about it like they know for a fact and it has been blown into something that nothing will be able to satisfy. Whatever it could possibly be, there are people who will be disappointed now because "I thought it was going to be" or "They said it was.."
Personally I have no freakin' clue what they're going to build, if anything. Part of the anticipation of the new season is what makes the winter fun. If we couldn't wonder what they were going to do or follow what they are doing, there's nothing to keep my going over the winter. So, the longer they keep us in suspense the better for me. :-)
If they debuted their new ride opening day without any of us knowing (yeah i know, impossible), that'd be ok with me.
Even if it WAS a topspin, I'd be ok since its something new. I just hope its not because I don't like them. (I'd still ride it once though!)
