I am as well.
Though I still think we will get something next year.

About the cedar point express train thing, few people realize that you can take an amtrak train from chicago to sandusky for about 30 bucks each way an it takes about 5 1/2 hours. It doesn't suprise me that no one know about it, but i really think cedarpoint should get an package deal worked out with amtrak

One "minor" destination, like "that amusement park in Ohio that's open for half of the year" won't really draw enough of, well, ANYTHING that will justify creating or altering a railway for it.

That might work out well. I mean they would still stop at Sandusky, but for an extra $10 the train will go to Cedar Point. Heres another theory, once the train stops at Sandusky, Amtrak could have like maybe a bus that would take guests straight to hotels or directly to the park.

That would certainly be a lot more realistic than a new rail line. Really there's nothing stopping people from setting it up themselves. (Public Transportation and/or taxi)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but Cedar Fair pretty much just advertises for their individual parks locally. So, if Cedar Fair wanted to expand their advertising, they could use amtrak and/or greyhound as a pull for people coming from further distances maybe even offer a combined discount... Buy a round trip fare plus a funday admission and recieve $15 dollars off. Something like that.

Had a thought...

Seeing as how Kinzel is in agreement about DT being a pretty worthless attraction, and they already have a decent sized footprint blocked off, it would be neat to see an indoor launch coaster similar to Flight of Fear at PKI.

I've yet to ride it, but it sure looks like it might be fun and with the right theme, it could make for a more entertaining, family-type ride.

I doubt that CP will get rid of DT. I am starting to doubt that anything will go in the park but there are so many strange things going on in the park. First there were the dirt piles, then the markings, now DD. WAIT! Maybe aliens took over CP and were making all the dirt piles and markings and they will obduct DD when the park closes for there own enjoyment!

Did you read the Kinzel article where he called DT a "dog of a ride"? That (and the fact that the ride sucks) is kinda what I'm basing that on. I just figured he get that ride outta there before he retires... spotless record and all that.

But it would seem he's had that opinion for 15 years or so.

Do you guys really think decisions are motivated by ego?

Hey check this out. Go to the botom of the page and look at Vekoma.http://www.screamscape.com/html/iaapa_2004.htm

That would be cool. If they didn't let it turn into what DT has become.

Yeah, I realize he's had that opinion for a while, but I'm hoping CP is starting to realize that it takes more than uber-coasters to get people in the park. And since every park needs a theme ride, (and no, CCMR doesn't count - every park needs a runaway mine ride, too) maybe he figured they'd leave it, rather than trying to make another theme ride at the time.

And, no, I don't think all of his decisions are based on ego, but everyone has an ego of some size, be it small or large. But he probably wants to leave behind a legacy of sorts (he is in the entertainment business, after all), and why not make it as flawless as possible?

I dunno, I just think what I would do if it were me... but maybe thats why I don't run an amusement park. ;)

First off...the launch idea... they have two launch coasters already. And im sure we have all seen or heard they don't always work. As for theme...Cedar Point has tried that and well that didn't work either. DT has gone to shams, the TTD trains have been stripped. And most of the extra add-ons are like *blows raspberries*

As for the Vekoma "ride in a box"...that would be pretty nifty. Only a few downfalls. 1) Cedar Point has a ride in a big ugly box already. 2) They can't keep up themeing. 3) To build the ride in the box, they would have to remove the current one. Meaning "trashing" the box to get it out, and paying for the ride removal. 4) They go down one in the almighty coaster count.

Argue, Discuss, whatnot...

Right, but DT was known to be a wasted effort from the beginning, so that could be a big reason the theming wasn't kept up very well. And I thought the TTD trains were stripped for other reasons than theme-related, but I dunno.

But, if you read my post, my suggestion was to replace DT. And, yes they would probably have to pay for the removal, unless Extreme Makeover: Amusement Park Edition shows up. ;)

4) They go down one in the almighty coaster count.

No they don't. Observe...

Remove DT: 16 - 1 = 15

Install New Themed Ride: 15 + 1 = 16

Final Result: 16 = 16

Hate to break it to ya dude, but that is more of a dark ride then a coaster. And I guess you are right about the TTD trains. Maybe they were stripped for weight issue and trying to up capacity with the extra row. But the theme in general on the trains is still gone.

They were stripped because one of the tires came off while the ride was running. I don't remember if it was on the ID or midway side of the ride though. There is no reason it should have come off as it should have been securely welded to the train, but it wasn't.

Well, a dark ride could be made into a themed ride more easily than an reg. coaster. Add some lighting and props (similar to DT - yet much, MUCH better), and ZANG! You've got yourself a themed coaster!

Also, a dark ride would still hold more overall entertainment value as compared to a reg. coaster, making it at least a little more appealing from that perspective.

Brandon

Well how come Kennywoods Exterminator does better then Disaster Transport? That's a spinning ride and dark ride. I don't see why this ride isn't well liked? I mean it has nice fun dips and fast turns. It's kinda relaxing as well when you think about it.
If Cedar Point were to remove it, they'd ship it Michigan Adventures. That's what I think would happen. I'd like to see a nice woody like Villian go in it's place.

Are you referring to DT? My response below is based on the assumption that you are referring to DT...

I used to enjoy riding AR when I was younger, mostly because it was unique in that its a bobsled. When it first became DT, it was cool, mainly because it had the most entertaining queue in the park, and it had AC! The sights, sounds and actual moving robots were awe-inspiring the first time through, but quickly became boring after waiting in the same queue room for like 45 minutes. After riding it a couple times and realizing that the ride itself wasn't very fun to begin with, the novelty wore of. And through the years, CP has done little or nothing to keep up on the theming, letting it deteriorate to an embarassing state. This summer was the first time I've ridden it in years, and the queue is absolutely horrible - its like they let some junior-high kids go crazy in there with fluorescent paint. Such a disaster...

Thats supposed to be PUNny...
