Any word or thought on a ride for 2006???

I think a flyer can be better if they just take a chance of making it a taller, faster, and have more turns and take advantage of the flight feeling.

Like X at MM? I would love to have a 4D at CP. They are building a 2nd one in europe somewhere i think. SO maybe they have worked out some of the maintenance issues.

No thats not what I meant. I mean you sitting and facing out the side.

^^ yeah that would be a cool coaster. The thing about X, is that even when it was working, it was just slow. I wouldn't want one of those. I really want a flyer, especially a taller one, but the capacity is just so bad.

I take it you haven't ridden X. X is awesome.

The outward-facing style train has been brought up a few times...if not here then on Coasterbuzz. I think that it would be a cool coaster experience, but we have yet to see any conceptual drawings from any company that there is such a design in the works. I bet it has to do with the amount of force that can be place upon the neck when oriented perpendicular from the ride path.

As for the 500 foot coaster...

I think that currently Intamin has the only proven, affordable lift system (see: MF) that would be bold enough to go that high. Apparently B&M was uncomfortable with the idea of going 300 feet back when Cedar Point looked to possible bids for MF, so I would count them out for going 500. Morgan's price tag for Steel Dragon 2000 was around twice that of MF's so I doubt they would be picked to do it. So this brings us back to Intamin...

The ride wouldn't be too different from MF and it would most likely have a steeper lift incline, but from here how do you differentiate the ride from Magnum or MF? Assuming you want to have an actual layout for the ride and not repeat the Dragster L:TH:B thing, how do you make the ride unique? You already have the unrelenting speed of MF and the great airtime on Magnum...I mean, what's the point?

Unless they debuted some radical 4-D style trains or something similar for the ride there wouldn't be a point to investing that much money (probably in the neighborhood of 50 million) for a repetitious ride experience. They could combine the airtime and speed elements, but is that really the best business decision? Sure it would be one of the coolest rides ever, but is it something the park will spend that much money on? I doubt it.

Another thing to think about is where could they put the thing. It would need a ridiculous amount of pull-out space for each and every hill valley, so the number of possible plots dwindle. If you think about where there is enough space for this large of a ride you would come to the conclusion that it would have to be built along the beach and parallel to the parking lot.

It just doesn't seem like something they would or should do, but I have been wrong before...

The layout could be in WWL and Antique cars for the end of the ride/station/lift, and the actual track could maybe just wind around over paths, down to CCMR and then hook around back.

It basically wouldn’t be a long ride since they don’t have that kind of room for a coaster of such magnitude. The lift wouldn’t be a problem because it could be really inclined. It's just the layout, since it would require a very large amount of room.

I just can't wait to see Cedar Point prove us wrong:) lol!!...........hopefully.

Until today, I hadn't decided what kind of new coaster would be good. My vote is a Dive Machine. I think a Dive Machine would be great! http://www.rcdb.com/ig777.htm?picture=9 I don't think there is anyone here who would argue that that looks amazing.

You made a nice long post and really you say it all here. But there's a point where a line must be drawn, and TTD drew it (for this decade).

Think about it this way TTD's popularty is there because of it being "the tallest" and "the fastest" coaster out there. Going 120mph, 420 feet makes it sound like you've acomplished something. If there's a ride that is 510 feet and 150+mph just across the midway, there's nothing very special about TTD anymore. (what a waste of a $25million mechanical headache)

The next two years will be interesting. For roller coasters B&M seems to be the choice with a Flyer, Dive Machine, or Floorless. If it isn't one of these I wouldn't be shocked, we're talking about CP here! For flats, Huss has a few while S&S seems to be showing a lot of new toys for CP to dig into latly.

When you say CP has something up their sleeves, we're talking about some pretty big sleeves here. Every year they seem to come out with something new and unexpected and always coming out greater than ever imagined.

With some logic you should know, CP has something good in store and only the future will tell.

They need a to build more coasters like WT. In the sense that it barely takes up any space.

Cedar Point does an awesome job of meshing their coasters with other rides already in the park. (Unlike Six Flags who just plops them down in the parking lot!) I'm sure they could fit something back in fronteir town that could fit with the other stuff.

Has anyone else noticed all the trees they chopped down in the queue of Thunder Canyon? Maybe they just trimmed off the tops, but it sure is a lot cleaner over by the removed swans! :)

Mmm, after seeing SheiKra, I want Cedar Point to get a B&M dive machine. I would love to see it a little bit higher than SheiKra (Cedar Point would prolly do that anyway) and maybe some more inversions.

I mean, a Floorless is a great coaster, but we have one not too far away at Geauga Lake. And that has the worlds second tallest vertical loop (I believe).

2012 - Magnum XL 200 Crew

In regards to WT-like rides...that was the same reasoning that went into Dragster's design. They wanted to go as fast as they could and as high as they could with as little space as possible.

In my opinion, they need to drop this kind of thought process during the design phase of future installations because they haven't added a coaster with "substance" since MF (and some people would argue prior to MF actually). Of course they shouldn't be wasteful with the space they use, but they should abandon the one-trick pony type of rides.

I'm curious as to why so many people are jumping on the Dive Machine bandwagon. I have a feeling it's because of all the Sheikra hype because nobody in the U.S. seemed to care about this ride design prior to this year. The original design was thought up so that Alton Towers could build a coaster with a (nearly) vertical drop with a very small radius because of their local height ordinance. It seems like you would be beating a dead horse if you wanted one of these since Dragster and MF have the huge drops and Dragster already goes vertical...twice. Also, the drop into an underground tunnel is unrealistic at Cedar Point because of the high water table.

With the discovery of new markings painted close to CCMR, I've taken some interest in looking at that area of the park. It's very rare at CP when those type of signs appear mid-season and nothing significant comes of them.

Because of this, I was pawing over the hi-res ariel photo of the park again, and another possible site for a new coaster could be the unused portion of Millennium Island. I'm definitely not the first person to suggest this, but before I guess I never paid attention to exactly how much room there is over there, especially if they would fill in some more of the lagoon from the island side. They could add even more to the layout through the use of cross-overs between MF and a new ride.

I doubt they would do it since it's currently being used for storage, but I think it would be cool for them to renovate the old Frontier Lift station into a new coaster station. I could really visualize a flyer heading out to the island, doing some crazy stuff like fly over MF's low zones and possibly in between some of the higher supports, and then coming back to the station.

Busch Gardens owns the rights to Dive Machines, so thats out. And X at SFMM happens to be my favorite coaster, if CP got one I would cry with joy. Flyer, I haven't heard good things, I would be most excited about a floorless (I'm not thinking a 4D is even worth hoping for).

Are you sure they own the rights? I mean, they have one in Alton Towers, and that was built way before SheiKra was. Its B&M's ride design, I would think that they would want to try to make as much money out of it as possible.

I never thought about the fact of the high water table. Alton Towers has Oblivion (the picture I posted above), that's also a Dive Machine.

Where do people get this crap and start talking out of their ass like that? There are two other dive machines already... one at Alton Towers in the UK and one in Asia. Busch might have a short-term non-compete contract for Florida, but I'm doubt that B&M is going to otherwise sign a contract to lock them out of other potential business.

Flyers suck. Been on the Vekoma and B&M versions. The "slow" rides you see are too intense for the public at large to enjoy, especially on repeated rides.

The first Huss Topple Tower is going to Dollywood for next year.

I rode Sheikra the weekend it opened. And even though CP's last two coasters went veritcal...Sheikra was totally different. You do go vertical...but with a few motionless seconds to enjoy the moment. Outside of the half second stall at the top of WT's towers, you are always moving on CP's vertical hills. Sheikra gives you the same feeling that you receive sitting at the top of PT's drop towers. You get to the top and wait...and wait...and wait. Even though you are only up there a few seconds, it can seem like an eternity. Now take that feeling, but your facing straight down. Its almost like combining TTD/WT (for the vertical aspect) with PT (for the hold and wait aspect) and Mantis/Raptor (for the classic B&M coaster aspect). Its a great ride, especially for being a new variety of coaster. I would be more than happy to see CP add it to their lineup. Of course with the steroids that CP always adds to their new toys!!
