A ride that CP doesn't have & you wish it would...

Aside from a GCI, a flyer, or a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter, I was thinking about some flat rides. As many know, Canada's Wonderland has probably the best flat ride collection of any amusement park, and are gonna get another for 2017. I have been to the park multiple times and am always blown away by all the Thrill flats (Sledgehammer, Shockwave, Skyhawk, Riptide, Psyclone, Orbiter, Drop Tower, Night Mares, and Windseeker). Not even Cedar Point can compare to Wonderland's flats. Out of their flats, I would love the most for a Sledgehammer ride (proper name is HUSS Jump² ), because it is so unique (one-of-a-kind actually) and very thrilling, but I don't think that is possible because the ride has been having lots of mechanical problems.

But, the ride I can see getting put in (like I have mentioned perviously) is...

A Wild West themed Top Spin featuring water jets. It can have wooden barrels all around it, and the queue themed to a Wild West saloon.

Riptide is a super fun ride, and it would be awesome if Cedar Point got something like it in Frontiertown as an update to the midway when RMC Mean Streak comes.

I've read that's a maintenance nightmare with poor capacity.

New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

Rode Sledgehammer when I went to Canada's Wonderland this summer. Fun ride, but yes, very unreliable. First time I got in line, the current cycle went up... and then the ride shut down. I got on it after it re-opened, but I saw it closed again later. It is a flat ride, it should not be seeing downtime like TTD. I would rather see a Sky Roller (also at CW) or a unique dark ride experience like Wonder Mountain's Guardian. Or a classic, non-soaking, log flume.

All I want for Christmas is for CP FLYIN to stop posting. :-(

Gotta love someone who quotes himself to keep the conversation rolling, then argues with himself a little to add conflict.

It's not Christmas yet... sorry.

Which one? If you are talking about Sledgehammer, yes, I know and that is why in the post I said that it would be a great addition, but is really unlikely because of constant mechanical issues. But, for the Top Spin, I do not believe it has poor capacity or is a maintenance nightmare. It IS however a great ride that Cedar Point should add into Frontiertown.

Which, from what you are saying, makes it not a great addition. And if what I'm talking about is confusing to you, I'm referring to the Huss Jump2. There may be a reason there are so few of those rides.

A lot of the Cedar Fair parks have featured a Top Spin of some sort at one time or another. (Sooooo 1980's...) They are ok rides but only with a really good program or a great manual operator, and that rarely happens. And didn't Kennywood remove theirs? Something about a price of dirt in the mechanism that caused it to suddenly halt suspending riders for a while.

I can think of ten flats off hand that would be a better choice than either one of these.

Like what kinds of flats RCMAC? I would love to hear!

I will say this:

After being down in Florida to year round parks..We NEED a dark ride. I know we won't get one to their level of detail or hold any intellectual properties worth a damn really. But I never thought I'd enjoy Dark Rides from parks until I went to Universal. A ride that came out in 1999 with a few modern updates in the past few years was killer. Previously Dark Kastle at BGW was my favorite dark ride..

It made Dark Kastle look like Boo Blasters at KI. I'd still like to get to the Dark Kastle level if possible, but we're not even there to begin with.

Boo Blasters is playing with a potato in the dark

Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011

To the best of my brain, without researching, only one Huss Jump 2 was ever produced. I have yet to visit Toronto (or Vaughan) but have always been mesmerized with Sledgehammer. I'd love to see one at the Point, but it'll likely never happen. Unless Huss really steps up their game.

You are correct. Only one was ever produced. Sledgehammer is one of a kind. Very fun ride that gives a really cool experience. I would love one at the Point, but it will never happen because of mechanical problems.

Couldn't agree more. I made my first trip to both the Universal parks this year and thought about 80% of their ride line up was dark rides which was surprising. Some of the standouts for me at Universal Islands of Adventure were the Skull Island King Kong ride, the Spiderman ride, and of course the Harry Potter ride inside the castle (Forbidden Journey?). While I don't forsee Cedar Point getting something in the magnitude of the budgets of these rides, I would like to see them work with Triotech in the future to get something on a smaller level. I'd be happy with almost any dark ride (except a target shooter) at this point at CP.

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but Cedar Fair has been doing alot of business with Mondial with new flats at Canada's Wonderland, and Kings Dominion. That being said, I would love to see a Mondial top scan, or inferno (the ride cw is getting). Realistically I think any future major flat will come from Mondial since companies like Huss have a bad reputation for reliability.

Outside of Mondial I would love a sky fly from Gerstlauer, a madhouse from Vekoma, a Unicoaster from Chance Morgan, or a Break Dance from Huss.

Santa will be busy this year ;)

Anything from Mondial would just go down due to wind. ;)

As for new rides, bring back paddlewheel.

seriously, stupid dinos.

One day I hope to get up to Canada to try Sledehammer and not because of the first part of the ride name is my nickname and the last part of the ride name is the first part of my last name :-)

I was thinking of a ride like Power Surge at Knoebel's, (I finally decided to ride it this past weekend after all the years of attending PPP and not riding it). It is a fun ride!

But then CPFOURLIFE had to mention Break Dance. That is a good flat, too. I even had the fortune of getting e-stopped on the one at what was once SFKK. The cause of the estop was that T-storm blew in quickly. That e-stop was a ride in and of itself.

Wasn't there a story recently in the last year or so that said every Cedar Fair park was going to get at least one dark ride within the next X (maybe it was 5) years?

Proud to have fathered a second generation coaster enthusiast destined to keep me young at heart and riding coasters with a willing partner into my golden years!

I'm 1.5 hours from KI and 2.25 hours from CP. I was at Ki last weekend and got walk on rides on their flyer and dark ride first thing in the morning on sunday. I really don't feel that CP needs to duplicate these ride at their park since I can just take off in a different direction. What KI really needs is more flat rides. They only have 3 plus windseeker. What if CP moved a flat ride or even 2 to KI and used the space put in a spinning mouse ride. Kind of like Wildcat meets Rub-a-dub-tubs. That adults wouldn't even want to ride but appealed to children more. Would take care of the capacity issues of such ride. I think Matterhorn/Watertower area would work great. And would provide more flats at KI. During an off year of capital improvements. Not 2017-2018. Small footprint and small investment. It could also be in the year they add their pirate ride or earthquake type dark ride.

For those interested in a Top Spin. Why doesn't KI have a Top Spin? Or do they? I really liked Tomb Raider. That building is still there. I also noticed that the Days of Thunder building is still there. Why? They should spend the capital to have these attractions running shouldn't they?

^ How about no?

^^ both those buildings at KI are used for haunts.

Brian
Valravn Rides: 24| Steel Vengeance Rides: 27| Dragster Rollbacks: 1

The theater building, now a haunt (Eternity Infirmary?) would be the perfect spot for the plaza and station for a big B&M hyper. It could ride the north side of the park up to Banshee, or even the parking lot, then return.

I haven't been in the building for years, but if I'm not mistaken the Top Spin hardware is long gone. I think a Soarin type of cinematic experience would be a good fit there. It may require adding to the structure, but there's room behind. Europa is adding something like that for 2017.

As far as flats go, I can't believe KI hasn't picked up a Zamperla Air Race to put where Flight Commander was. It would be the perfect spot for a large ride like that.

So if all those things appeared one day, I'd be all over Kings Island for at least a minute.

Cedar Point has a little more wiggle room as a traditional park, and they could add any make or model of spectacular flat ride and make it work.
I don't know where I'd put a dark ride. Show buildings at Cedar Point are hard, there's not a good place to hide one. Most of the suggestions I hear being tossed around are, in my opinion, not good ones. Especially making something out of the Coliseum.
