If CP is going for 20 coasters by 2020...
Has this idea ever been confirmed or even supported by reference to any credible/cryptic sources? Or is it simply a catchy theme phrase. Not attacking Bobb-z or anyone else who has used the "20 for 2020" phrase, but just curious as to whether it has any basis in reality or was just randomly suggested by someone and others have since run with it.
Proud to have fathered a second generation coaster enthusiast destined to keep me young at heart and riding coasters with a willing partner into my golden years!
There are some reasons why I believe CP is going for 20 coasters by 2020.
1: This is a rumor I've heard many people talk about (a rare time I believe a rumor)
2: Steel Vengeance will be their 18th coaster
3: We should probably expect a coaster in 2020 because of the 150th anniversary.
And 4: Cedar Point could reclaim the record for most coasters in one park (hopefully no other park breaks that record first)
I like to believe this will happen. If not, though, it's still been an awesome five years in a row now. It's been very fun to see new rides like Gatekeeper, Pipe Scream, Rougarou, Valravn and Steel Vengeance.

It would be moronic for CP to install 3 coasters in 3 consecutive years, unless 2 of them are of the family/kid's variety.
Magnum, Disaster Transport, and Mean Streak would like a word with you. Granted, Disaster Transport was a conversion, but it was still a $4 million conversion (especially when Avalanche Run cost $3.4 million in 1985), and it was billed as a new coaster. Similarly, Millennium Force/Wicked Twister/Top Thrill Dragster and GateKeeper/Pipe Scream/Valravn were all built within a 4 season timespan. I do see your point, however; the Cedar Point of today is a completely different animal from the Cedar Point of the 1980s/1990s, and nowadays it would be a stretch to say that 3 coasters in 3 years would be a good idea. However, there has been precedence, so I wouldn't double down just yet. You never really know which way they're going to go, and that's the fun of it all.

No basis in reality, just something made up by forum users. 100% speculation pulled out of someone's a$$.
They said that about the Boardwalk, too....now who's laughing!
Mr. Ouimet said they’d be getting non-frozen hamburgers, too... now who’s laughing? (the accounting department)
New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

Yeah, we kind of do. Just like when it was plainly obvious that MS2.0 wasn't opening in 2017. It never made sense, just as opening 3 coasters in 3 consecutive years - when they have other glaring holes in the attraction lineup - doesn't make sense.
Brandon
They didn’t have glaring holes when they previously did three in a row? A family coaster is a hole in the attraction lineup. That’s a smaller investment. I could see it happening. Probably won’t but I wouldn’t call it moronic. Especially at a park that calls itself the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.”
2018- Raptor
CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
They have Woodstock's Express as a family coaster and Wilderness Run as a kiddie coaster, there isn't really a large hole in the lineup when it comes to that. Makes a lot more sense to fill in the hole in the lineup when it comes to other types of family attractions.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Really? I think that’s a significant step from Woodstock Express. I would consider Woodstock as Kiddie. I still think they lack a coaster like Fire Chaser Express. That’s more family than Iron Dragon and CCMR IMO.

Woodstock Express is a sorry excuse for a family coaster, Pete.
This ride falls under the same umbrella as all the other _______ Snoopy rides billed as family rides. A family coaster should not only have low height requirements, but also be comfortable and enjoyable to riders of all ages. The second is not possible without the first. Have you ever crammed yourself into Woodstock Express?
Now, do I enjoy riding it with my tiny people? Of course, but only because it's all there is with regards to a "family coaster", but it's about as low on the totem pole that one could go.
Firechaser Express (as one example) is a family coaster, and it would be a great family ride without any of the theming.
Cedar Point has zero true family coasters from my perspective.
I actually share the same sentiment as CoasterCam on this. One would assume that a park that is billed as "America's Roller Coast" (and so on) would have at least one halfway decent family coaster. They have none.
I simply cannot see how a coaster that would appeal to and be accessible to an enormously broad range of humans could not be a plus to the park. It's a hole.
Promoter of fog.
I agree with KevinJ and CoasterCam. Cedar Point does not have a viable "family" coaster. Busch Gardens seems to have "hit a home run" with InvadR and it's 46" height requirement. My wife and I took our kids (4 and 6) to Silver Dollar City this summer and had the best time we ever had at an amusement park because the whole family could ride roller coasters together.
Tall and fast not so much upside down...
