Working in the construction industry, I have never heard people say "footing." I would use the term as such, I lost my footing and almost fell.

But anyway, English was never my favorite subject.

All I can say is you guys are wrong. :) Seriously, I know tons of people use footer, and I don't expect anyone to change. But, it just aint right. ;)

Here's a link just in case you don't believe me. Also, Here's the entry for footer. I also scanned through five of my design and construction books and they all refer to them as footings. Maybe I just paid too much attention in school? :)

Ok, I did indeed go this time... finnaly. (yesterday 9/2/07) And I doo, have some anwsers to fill, and some ideas to correct.... Lets starts with the possibility of there being a ride for the 08 season. There are now THREE areas to keep close eye on..

1. In the back, where the blog is posted. I did not see anything back there.

2.The removal of Aquatic Staduim, ropped off, and high dive bord is gone. (you can tell form the line of WT.

3. NEW IDEA- Near the front of the park, on the right side tward WT, there is a mini fenced off area, where possibly something could come from it. I saw it leaving the park, and I think its deffinetly a place to be watching. Yopu cannot see the area from the midway because of buildings, but perhaps there being taken down?

Do you think if a ride was to replace aquatic stadium, would it take 1 year or 2?

It's like a two-year old got a hold of your keyboard Maverick LOVER. I don't even know what the heck you just said.

Translation:

1. He did not see anything happening in the back of the park by Planning and Design. This is where the photo on the blog was taken.

2. The aquatic stadium is roped off and the high dive board has been removed. You can see this from the Wicked Twister queue.

3. He has a new idea. There is apparently a small fenced off area near Wicked Twister. He believes this fence may lead to future development and we should watch the area in the coming weeks. You can't see the fence from the midway because buildings are in the way. He also believes that maybe the buildings will be coming down.

Honestly. the fence sounds like the typical sand fence that's in that area. But, who knows?

The theory that I have come up with concerning the aquatic stadium area is that we might be seeing Kiddy Kingdom and Peanuts playground being leveled along with the stadium to make way for a new kiddie area with a new theme (possibly Nick toons?). I also feel strongly about this since the announcement of the season passes for '08 having "point perks club" instead of "Joe Cool club". Is it possible Snoopy and Co. are getting the boot?

^I do hope they keep Snoopy, and I hope they add Nick. What you describe would be a perfect fix to allow both to have a presence, because it would allow Camp Snoopy to stay and Nick to be in another area entirely. Dont think two sets of characters can work in a park? Well check out SFGAm then, there they have a kiddie area devoted to Loony Toons, and one devoted to Hanna Barbarra/Cartoon Network areas. I love the beagle and hope he can stay, but CP desperately needs a Nick area, that brand is simply too hot to let go of/only have it at half your parks.

I must be the only one who thinks the Nick characters are obnoxious and totally annoying. Once they invade Cedar Point (and I'm sure they will), I'll have to do my best to avoid that section of the park. I don't know why, but they just seem cheap and tacky as far as characters go.

I agree Tim. Snoopy and friends are traditional kid's characters who have a comforting presence. Snoopy offers a familiar face that kids know. Any time you see the Nick characters on TV they are loud and annoying, like Tim said. They are the new hit thing with kids so I guess we'll see what happens.

I must also agree with Tim. I think the Nick characters are obnoxious (and really not that kid friendly when you get down to it) and they are a fad. I still say that in 15 years kids will have no idea what a Sponge Bob is.

People say that SpongeBob doesn't have any longevity. What they don't realize, though, is that SpongeBob debuted on Nickelodeon in 1999. SpongeBob is in his 7th year. The Fairly Odd Parents started in 2001. Blue's Clues started in 1996.

I have a 4 year old nephew, and he loves SpongeBob. He has no idea who Snoopy is. Snoopy is on 3 or 4 times a year - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and maybe Valentine's Day. And you know what? Cedar Point isn't open for three out of four of those holidays, and they're barely open during Halloween. Pretty hard to have name recognition when the shows aren't ever on.

SpongeBob has staying power, and would be a wonderful addition to the park for the children's areas.

I don't know if I would say 7-10 years is really staying power. Many of the shows I watched on Nick as a kid had roughly the same lifespan, but kids these days have no idea what any of those characters are.

To get back on topic, I have a theory. Keep in mind it is no more than that. I was messing around on Google Earth and while looking at CP, I noticed that Wildcat would fit very nicely into the Aquatic Stadium's footprint. Perhaps that could be moved over closer to Kiddy Kingdom so they have a coaster in that area like Woodstock Express in Camp Snoopy. This would also leave a nice little area for a flat ride in Wildcat's place. That would do a lot of good in that midway, it needs something new.

Dismissing Snoopy because there is only a television special on during holidays is a little preemptive. Should we also dismiss the Muppet's because Jim Henson is gone and they don't have their own cable network? I mean come on. Some characters are classics and others are fads. The fads should be reserved for the stuffed animal prizes in the games section and the classics should be put in your theme park as attractions. That is unless you like gutting and rebuilding your kiddie areas every 5-10 years.

Doesn't CF only own the Nick license for a set period of time anyways? What happens after that? Can they keep existing attractions, but not update them?

I believe they got the Nick licensing for 4 years with an option to pay for an extension after that.

no childrens ride ever built has ever been as good as the smurf ride! it could be snoopy or the poop on south park. Probably not the smurfs, but cedar point is missing a log flume ride or water atraction. The smurf ride wasn't a water ride but was close and air conditioned. If they built a ride exactly like it there would be a 1/2 hour line all the time!

I did a quick search of the shows I remember watching on Nickelodeon, and the show that had the longest life on a show was Rugrats. That aired from 1991 to 2004. Other than that, nothing lasted more than 5 years. (Ren and Stimpy 5 years, Rocco's Modern Life 3 years, Doug 3 years, Pete and Pete 3 years, Salute Your Shorts 2 years-all examples, and there are more). Maybe I'm not remembering many of the shows that aired on Nick. Many were just on for three years SpongeBob and Blue's Clues have already had a longer life than nearly every show that aired on Nick from the early 90s.

While I love the Peanuts series (grew up with it), Nickelodeon is much more popular today with kids. I think getting the Nickelodeon characters would be a good move because of that popularity.

If CP does license the Nick characters, I bet they can update what characters are featured in the park so they can always have the popular characters. An arrangement like that would be good for the park and for Nickelodeon.

millenniumrox, Wildcat would fit nicely in the stadium area. That is where the ride was when it first opened in the early 70's.
