My friend is going to work at the point as well....he is in games and i'm in merchandise....is there any possible way we could get our off days scheduled for the same day of the week?....and do employees generally have the same off day every week? Thanks!

I'm not sure about games, but last I knew, in merchandise, schedules were made by managers, at least in some areas of merchandise. It shouldn't be a big deal, you'll just need to speak with whoever does your scheduling.

Are there people walking around helping you, telling you where to go?

Clothes- Is there like a laundry mat to do laundry on off days? How much of our own clothes should we bring?

Money- How much do you suggest we bring to make sure we get the neccesities? Like rain-coats and wind suits and stuff like that. I bank with a bank that isn't in OH, should I get direct deposit with them so my check just goes in the day we get paid? I mean I'm used to cashing it but if I'm not there that seems like what I'm going have to do and just use ATMs, to get cash.

Thanks DBCP for all your help!!!

:)

There aren't people necessarily walking around telling you where to go, but there's employees everywhere, it shouldn't be too hard to track someone down if you need help. Each person along your way to processing in can also point you in the right direction. There'll also be instructions on JobNet once you're hired explaining the entire process.

There is a place to do laundry, and it is much like a laundry mat. How much clothing you want to bring is up to you, but you've seen the pictures, space is limited. You'll also be given a very small amount of dresser space, but it's not much.

I really don't have a good idea of how much money you will need because my experience was much different from the norm last year. However, I'll remind you that you can have your wardrobe purchases paycheck deducted, so you don't need to worry about paying cash for that, if you don't want to. Also, I would say direct deposit is an excellent option, then you won't have to deal with the hassle of depositing your check yourself. This is great if you're someone who uses their Debit Card as their form of "cash," as you really won't have to worry about anything, except knowing your balance.

Your get over stressed already. Not a good sign. Just kidding. Its not that hard to figure out what to do and HR can help you in getting direct deposit started and you really should. Keep in mind that the first check is physical regardless so you have to deposit that which sucked for me because my nearest branch was about 30 minutes away in Port Clinton.

Try not to over do it with the amount of crap you bring like I did because it took 2 round trips to get my stuff back home in October and space is limited (in my case a locker).

If you have to take the bus get the stop at least a hour beforehand because the drivers are always late, on break, or the bus is full. The buses also make trips to downtown as well as the Meijer/Mall run so be sure to get a schedule in HR on the first day and also pick up the Discount Guide. It gives you a list of all the places around town the give you deal if you flash your ID. Be sure to ALWAYS have it on your for that and to get scanned back into housing.

Every 2 weeks or so ESD (Employee Services Department) release a newsletter for of info and games and makes great reading on break or doing laundry. You can get that at HR and the employee cafe. ESD is the ones that plan all the cool events for us like ride nights, game nights, trips, talent shows, and the BIG BASH. Also a lot of the events where games are involved you can win coupons for free or cheap stuff for any of their partners such as a free buffet and drink at East of Chicago

Get a mini fridge. It was the best investment I could have made and I think it paid for itself in the long run.

The first 1-1.5 months the Commons courtyard is like a party everynight and its loud. Alot of that comes from being smack in the middle of Pistons and Cavs territory and you will hear it.

Get to know as many Internationals as possible. They friggen rock and are the coolest people there and you can learn alot about them.

Always lock your door and stuff down. I had my laptop stolon during "Brownout 07" and it happend in the matter of 10 minutes. It was abnormal situation but it still happened and once something is stolon your are pretty much out of luck.

Wireless internet is in the Hotal Lobbies, The Rec Center, Donut Time (right when you enter thru the Space Spiral employee only gate) and new for 2008, many housing lobbies.

Get used to not eating and sleeping now.

Get up off your butt and go for a walk/run and get in the mood of moving. Got to get out of that winter slacking mood. Speaking of that, I coined the phrase S.W.A. for our stand last year and it started to spread into the Area 2. S.W.A. stands for "Slackers with Attitudes". Feel free to use it.

Every Thurdays Night Star Lanes had a great bowling deal that is great way to spend a day off. I only got to do it once with the roommates and that was only during the period where my hours went down a bit (That did not last long :) )

If your hours do go down like mine there is the Extra Hours hotline that can be called from any park/room phone.

If I come up with anything more I will chime back in latter.

Thought of another question, this time from the coaster enthusiast part of my brain. :)

I know the employee ID doubles as a season pass. Can I use it for ERT in the morning, like the Platinum Pass holders and the resort guests get, or do I have to wait until the park opens? Just curious.

Your ID gives you 24 hour access to the park... so, yes.

And, even though you have 24-hour access to the park, it isn't 24-hour access to the rides. ;) haha

Also, just because you are able to be in the park in the middle of the night, it's usually best to have a reason if you're going to do so. Not saying anyone planned on doing that....I'm just sayin'.....

Yeah if you're not working. I used to do that once in a while for Maverick, and people would wonder how I got there so quick.. hehe I can run fast! :)

Yeah, being able to get in early was amazing for opening day of Maverick. And also busy Saturdays. Once, before work, I managed to ride with 3 friends by ourselves and run around and ride again before the season pass and resort guests made it to the line.

I know Mean Streak still has a manual transfer, so does WildCat...those are bad.

Wait, Mean Streak doesn't have manual transfers! Duh!

=)

Jeez, roomie

Haha, apparently I should pay attention to what I write, I meant Blue Streak. I helped with that one night...never again. Hahaha.

Love you roomie! :)

I think I would die if Mean Streak was like that...I mean, seriously DIE...would you come over to my ride and help me, roomie if my transfers were manual?!

Goob!

I would hope that they would have figured out how to move a transfer automatically in 1991. :)

I know, right? Gomez...you better come back to work on my crew for at least another hour or two this season...haha

Hi I am employed as a Sales Associate (I think it's at the Pagoda butI'm not 100% sure thats what it means on my form hehe) and my friend is in games. This will be our first year working there.
We have a couple of questions.
1. I will be arriving the second week of May and she will be arrivingnear the beginning of June, is it possible for us to share a roomstill? Also will the on-point housing be open then?
2. Since we are interested in living on-point, the housing for females, would we be able to bring a mini fridge there? Also can we bring anair conditioner?
3. Is it possible to cross-train between the two so that I can work merchandise and games and her the same? And if so how do you go about doing so?
4. I read that you would get your first paycheck (posted by someone else) in physical form regardless of whether you have direct deposit. Is this true? How would you go about cashing that check if you live too far away from your bank?
5. Do the various places in the park accept a debit card to pay or would you need to use an atm machine?

Sorry for all of these questions but any help would be appreciated! Thanks. I'll probably come up with some more questions soon.

I can't answer all of your questions due to my lack of knowledge of on-point housing, as well as Merch/Games...That said, I can answer your last two questions.

Yes, your first check will be a physical check, no matter what. You can get it cashed at various places in Sandusky if you don't have a bank nearby. Kroger, Meijer, Wal-Mart, and other places will be glad to cash the check for you. (For a small fee)

As for the debit card question...The cafe accepts them, as does the Commons store. With direct deposit and my debit card, I don't think I ever actually had any physical cash on me at all last summer (except for that first check), and I got along just fine.

I have lived in Gold dorms before and you can bring both a/c and a frig also as long as its small one. You have to pay extra for having the a/c in but i cant remember how much but its not very much and its well worth it you not be able to sleep if you do not have one.

As far as working in both merch and games...Merch usually offers lots of extra hours, typically for night sales (the carts with light up stuff) and they'll take people from any department. A lot of games people would work those for extra hours. Games doesn't usually have extra hours to offer people outside of the department. Plus with the different uniforms and training it makes it difficult.
