Who is going to Coaster Mania?

The event ticket was also the admission ticket for those who purchased the more expensive non-passholder ticket. If they scanned your admission-not-included event ticket at the front gate, it's likely they made a mistake (not looking closely at the ticket and/or not seeing the season pass you should have been holding).

My platinum pass was scanned at the gate, and my event ticket was scanned in the check-in line by Hurricane Hannah's.

Seems to me now that I think about it, I was just waived through the gate and not scanned. Weird.

We were waved through the gate and our passes were scanned at lunch also.

Regarding the three people who I assume were let in after throwing a fit, I have no idea how they knew the dates and time of the event, yet didn't read the registration portion of the info. I hope others don't try to do the same next year.

My group of 3 got scanned for entry at the front gate and they scanned only the lunch tickets for lunch.

As far as CoasterMania, it was great, especially the night time ERT. Practically no lines. The 1st timer to the park that was with finally understands why cedar point is leaps and bounds better than anywhere else he's been. I've tried to talk him into coming with me to the park for at least 4 years. We also did Brew & BBQ. I think it was one of my favorite visits to the park ever. Thanks to all the staff who were there early or late for this, it's very much appreciated.

I kept an eye out for people who were going to claim ignorance to try to get their way into the event, but I missed the 3 people being mentioned. My bet is that they didn't buy tickets in time and figured they could bully the staff into letting them in by claiming "they didn't know". They should have had security escort them away.

I'll probably go to CoasterMania again next year because of how good a time this years event was.

Does anyone know who the guy was at the first Q&A that asked about Valravn & possibly Millennium Force jackets?

8th Coastermania event, and I thought this was the best one! Everything with the event itself was awesome! Lunch ran the smoothest I've seen, Getting into the park was fast as well (prefer shirts passed out at lunch tho so I don't have to run back to the car right away but very minor*), and weather was gorgeous! Everyone who attended too seemed to be the friendliest bunch of the past events, at least who I got to meet.

Only complaints about the day from our group was one had a hard time getting a platinum pass and getting the money back for the Mania ticket admission portion. People working at the pass station didn't know anything about the event, also by not having an actual ticket (back of lunch card didn't count). Another was Sandcastle Suites room service had a hard time knocking on doors. Had it happen twice they came in without knocking and was oblivious to us talking in the room for a good minute.

Housekeeping knocked on my door at Sandcastle yesterday morning when we were just a few minutes from checking out. Overall, I thought Sandcastle was decent. My only gripes are that it's a hike from the park, but you can catch the shuttle, and for a suite, it feels kind of cramped. There's hardly any walking room when you pull out the sofa bed. That was my first experience staying on site. I liked the ability to go back to my room a couple times throughout the day. I dropped off my shirt and went back later to charge my phone for a few minutes and take a little break.

Sigh. 15 minutes in and there is already an entitled coastermania attendee causing a scene at MF, because they won't let her wear her glasses. -_-

I saw a woman at MF also that was arguing with the ride crew about letting her on with a cast on her arm. It was one that went up past her elbow, and someone in the line next to me said she was there the previous weekend and was told she could not ride with the cast. She held up the train at morning ERT for a good 10-15 minutes while she argued with them until they gave her what she wanted.

Yup I was in the station for that, too. Isn't that right in the restrictions section on the website? I'm sure if she had hurt herself further on the ride she would be screaming lawsuit.

Shame on the women obviously. Especially if she indeed was previously told and knows better. But not good for the ride crew if they gave in. Doesn't matter how much of a fight the guest is putting up.

Per Guest Assistance Guide/Ride SOP she should not have been allowed to ride. She does not meet the required criteria to safely ride the ride per park and manufacturer requirements. See this for more info: https://www.cedarpoint.com/images/uploads/file/2016%20Guest%20Assistance%20Guide(1).pdf

But per the requirements for Millennium Force:

Riders with any prosthesis must contact Guest Services prior to waiting in line or riding. Riders must have at least one functioning arm and one functioning leg, with a minimum of three functioning extremities. Riders with cervical collar, neck brace, broken collar bone, full arm cast, braced arm cast, or a full leg cast are not allowed to ride.

Also, a full arm cast is defined as:

Guests with full arm (elbow restricted) and full leg (knee restricted) casts or braces are restricted from most rides and slides at Cedar Point, Soak City and Castaway Bay. The manufacturer of GateKeeper, Raptor, Rougarou, and Valravn prohibit any type of cast from riding

So yes, she should not have been let on the ride. When guests get their way and bypass the rules for their own safety, allows accidents to potentially happen. See Ride of Steel at Darien Lake. The guest fought with their operators, and it led to his own death.

It is not good that these ride crew members give in to these people. Violations of safety policy is never right, can the crew member be fired over a violation like that? They should have just called security to get the woman off the ride and make quick work of her.

I wonder how easy or difficult it is for the ride ops/crew to get security there in a timely manner?

Last edited by darkrider68,

After explaining the ride policy / safety procedures, the ride crew can call an area supervisor. They may get to the ride a little quicker than security.

Guest may not realize this, but ride procedures and safety protocols are there for a reason. TO KEEP HER SAFE / other riders on the train safe.

It wasn't the ride ops' call... They were all huddled in the control both, flipping through manuals, and on 2 different phones. Someone away from Millennium Force made the call.

We obviously do not know all the details. However this woman still should not have ridden in my eyes for what I see right now. Unless someone from Park Ops or management says otherwise, the book is what I will reference every time, and is also a violation of ORC 1711.551. She didn't heed warnings and obey all warnings and directions regarding the ride. Technically this is a misdemeanor, but I've never seen this truly charged, I'm sure it's happened when security has taken people off the ride for me in the past, but we never get a follow up from security with what happened.

Technically if the rider wasn't supposed to ride and violates the ride/personal safety standards you receive an operational. Given that the woman wasn't stopped by any of the platform crew, controls, and even crowd control and potentially the fast lane divider, they would receive operational as well given that their inattentiveness led to this woman riding.

However, if someone higher up did give the go ahead, one I'm surprised, usually Park Ops are by the book to an absolute "T" as they should. Variance isn't a word in their vocabularly normally. However none of us really know everything that happened.

I didn't attend this year, but were people better behaved this year for coaster mania? Because last year tony and Jason Hammond told us how they were disappointed with everyone's behavior with climbing on things and line jumping and complaining at lunch about the merch. Not that I did any of that, but we just were warned about it. I hope that didn't happen and it went smoothly.

Well, if you look through this thread, you will read about a lady throwing a fit at MF because they wanted her to secure her glasses. Another lady threw a fit because she had a full arm cast and the rules prohibit her from riding. And, another happy coaster enthusiast complained to the server at Perkins that she had to buy breakfast because they didn't have free doughnuts.

These are just the incidents people here saw and posted. I bet the enthusiasses were out in full force as normal.

I didn't see any bad behavior this year. Plus the crowds were much better since the event was capped.
