Shoot the Rapids?

The fact that no one was seriously hurt only indicates the riders the day it was shut down were simply lucky.

It's also a fact that there was a serious malfunction which resulted in passengers being ejected from their seats, and it could have resulted in a much worse ending for those involved given a different response by those responding to the incident.

Is it possible that a malfunction like this could cause the ride to completely shut down?

Do you mean permanently? Because the malfunction DID shut the ride down.

Yes, I mean permanently. Like how Son of beast was just sitting there for years.

I hope so. That is one stupid ride and waste of space IMHO.

I think the general radio silence from CP on this issue as of late indicates that the ride will reopen. That ride takes up A LOT of space. If there were plans to remove to the ride and create someone new, I think we would have heard it by now. I believe CP is doing everything in their power to try to get the ride reopened.

I think enclosing it would be a great idea. Putting a box over it isn't going to block any spectacular view of the lake or anything. And not to mention they wod be able to add waterfalls that actually get the riders wet- soaked. I would love to see this happen.

I would just like to see more "happen" on the other side after the drop. Throw in some nice theming (yes, I said theming) that would tie in with what they have now and compliment the ride without requiring it to be maintained, and it would make the ride a tad bit more enjoyable.

Theming? Where do you think you are, Disney? You'll get no theming, lots of dead mayflies everywhere and you'll like it.

lol that sounds more true than anything. But I figured if I included "no maintenance required" it might be more enticing......:(

I think what Adam means is something similar to how Maverick was built. When you wait in line for Maverick there are so many western objects surrounding it. I hope that makes sense.

You and I have very different definitions of "so many."

^^You really think Maverick's line is themed well? It's a ton of queues stacked on top of each other in a wooden queue house. Take away the repetitive western music and the lumber, and it's no different than Raptor's queue IMO.

Well, other than the fact that at least Maverick's is covered from the sun. :)

I wish Maverick did have the theme elements in the rendering we were shown, but apparently budget & stuff didn't call for it. Honestly though I wish the tunnel stuff still worked, other than that no major complaints. Yeah the fog was bad but the RR Xing and the strobe lights were awesome looking, I would seriously have enjoyed those.

I'd be curious to see what it would take to retrofit a traditional (read: not Intamin) log flume out of STR.

If it's just a matter of adding in some conveyor belts for the lifts, slapping some plastic on the concrete walls, and getting some new boats, that would at least save it from being a complete loss.

That's hypothetical, and assumes that they're not going to open it back up in its current state, so don't read too far into it.

I agree the theming originally shown for Maverick had a cool look to it, made me think CP was finally making a good effort at theming a new attraction. The failure to maintain the elements in the tunnel are more consistent with the parks management from the 90's through now. I hope that there is an effort to bring them back for this season along with the tunnels on Mag.

As for STR I think it will reopen as it was with updated boats. I do think the ride is a huge disappointment in many ways. It sucks we lost White Water Landing and ended up with this dud. Any improvements to STR would be great.

You have no idea what you're talking about. For all we know, the trough may be designed so that it's not possible for a boat to capsize.

It's also a fact that there was a serious malfunction which resulted in passengers being ejected from their seats...

Completely wrong. No one was ejected from their seat.

I get that you find enjoyment in making the incident out to be a huge deal. But if you have to resort to complete lies and gross exaggeration, maybe that should tell you something.
