It's hard not to agree with anyone who says or implies that the U.S. nuclear waste policy is just stupid.

What's unfortunate is that since Jimmy, none of the 4 presidents who have been in office have even attempted to reverse that decision.

Besides, wouldn't recycling it, even if it refines to weapons grade, mean that it takes up less space in the end? And if it takes up less space, couldn't it be stored in a smaller more secure location?

Yes, John, that would make sense. Which, coincidentally, is exactly why it has yet to happen.

It's not a space constraint, really. Spent Uranium pellets are not very large. It's the fact that they're so damn radioactive, and have to be wrapped in containers that can live underground and not crack for thousands of years. By recycling and refining it, you can keep using it until there's almost nothing left.

I'm interested to see if we'll ever see a pebble bed reactor here in the US, but that's another discussion.

Let's revisit this conversation in about twenty years. I suspect we'll have a lot more nuclear plants than we do now. It will be an utter necessity.

Love 'em or hate 'em, they're coming.

Nuclear waste will be tackled about the same time Social Security Reform is. Both are the third rails noone wants to touch.

If I remember right (and maybe I'm wrong, I haven't looked it up in a long time) wasn't the ban on fuel recycling an Executive Order, rather than passed legislation?

I'm pretty sure it was. I wish we had more of a science-savy president (one that doesn't call it "nukeular").

^ Are you honestly telling me that. just because Bush screwed up a word when he was giving a speech to the entire country/world ONCE (if I'm not mistaken at least), he is not science-savy?

I'm not trying to defend him, I just don't know if I like that reasoning.

Considering that when asked what his opinion about evolution was, he responded that we should, "teach the controversy," no, he's not very science-savvy.

I believe Jeff was not using that as a way of saying Bush is not very science-savvy, but rather that Bush is not very english-savvy. /sarcasm

There are many credit cards that offer a 5% cashback, which is a lot more than 3c.I have a Chase card.Shell offers one which gives the 5% on only Shell gas.I also believe that Discover card has a similiar program.Look around.

That is exactly what they card issuers want you to think.

Read the fine print. They get their money from you one way or another.

I have had my card for over 18 months and It is just as advertised.

BTW, what do you mean" they get their money one way or another"I pay my credit card in full every month and I pay no (0) interest.

Yeah, if you pay your balance in full each month you can get good deals. It's when you get into pesky credit card debt is the problem.

Intrest is one way. Another way are through certain fees such as an annual fee. A more subtle way is by selling your information to other companies.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but card issuers don't work for free.
