Wireless Internet!

Wireless internet may finally have arrived in employee housing!

They said in this year's employee yearbook that they were working on getting wireless internet. Now, on JobNet it says that several buildings are going to be equipped with wireless. Mainly:

Cedars--available in the lounge
Gold--"On premise"
Bayside--apartments!!!
Commons--obviously at the rec

I'll be living at Bayside this year and (if the internet actually works) it will be so nice not to have to walk across the street and through Commons to go to the rec!

Yay!! Welcome to 2008 Cedar Point!

Man, and here we are thinking that were gonna be able to get wireless internet in our rooms at Commons. They should at least attempt to give us some sort of internet in there considering it is the most expensive housing at Cedar Point. I really hope that they invest in a commercial router instead of the residential one that they have in the rec now.

Yeah, because it stands at one of the most ****tiest and slowest internet connections of all time.

I'm not sure how fast they're rolling this out, but Starbucks offers "free" wireless internet for two hours every day. There's a charge after two hours. Panera Bread offers free wifi. And Donut Time in the park has wifi. There's a web site out there that list all the hotspots in a city.

While it would be nice to have the internet in the dorms, there are many alternatives.

Last I heard to use the new wireless scheme at Starbucks you would have to buy something using your Starbucks card (not a problem for me, I just need to reload mine).

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Oh I'm no stranger to using Panera and other spots around town for wireless when the Rec's is down. However, working early in the morning until late at night got to be pretty frustrating because most places were closed, including the Rec. Places like Burger King are open 24 hours though and offer free wireless.

However...I get pretty used to having the internet any time I want so having wireless in the dorms is a step in the right direction. Maybe I won't feel like I'm "roughing" it so much this summer, lol.

Hopefully they eventually invest in a better wireless router, or, at least put one in each building in Commons...I might have to take some online classes in the next few summers, and that would be a lot better than having to go sit in the Rec. and not be able to get any work done because it's so loud, haha.

Starbucks is actually really good for stuff like that. As long as the shop isn't too busy (i.e. don't go during peak times) its a nice place to do some work. I've worked on papers before in Starbucks. Nothing like having a white mocha and scone while doing some work in a comfortable lounge chair. :)

bummer

Castaway Bay also has a very nice enviroment for working and using the internet. The connection is pretty good in the lobby as well as the top floor. The point is though, that it would be nice to not have to compete with so many variables just to use the internet.

Very true. Everything I do on my laptop requires a constant "good" connection.

Castaway's connection isn't the best, trust me. And sadly Burger King, unless changed back, is now secure, so you can't sneak in and use it quickly anymore :-w. Panera bread is still available, went there after my disappointing use at both CB and BG. So far the internet service isn't available yet...currently working at CB, but next week finally heading back to the Point, miss my job...(as sup in Merch)...anyway. I'm hoping the rumors are true. I noticed it on the Yearbook but haven't checked employee sites in awhile. We've been hearing rumors allll winter long, so lets hope. And yes a commercial router would be way better...or even a better residential one...belkin routers are reliable and pretty strong signal. well we'll hope and I'll keep you guys up to date....right now using aol dial up :-P

So who wants to bet the wireless internet will almost never work? I wonder how many times when it was "down" it could have been fixed by resetting the router. My guess is every time?

I have my fingers crossed that the wireless that is supposed to be added to Cedars gets added and actually works. I'm taking two online classes this summer (definitely not what I want to do, but they should consume very little time) so I'm banking on having that wireless internet working. But if it's not, I'm sure I will find other ways of dealing with it.

The park could just hire me, I'll be looking for a full time IT job at the end of the season.... :)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

What I did last season a couple of times went to East of Chicago and stole the Internet from the Venitian Marina. I dont know if they made it secured it in the of season. Also McDonalds on CP drive has wifi but you got to pay for it. Buffalo Wild Wings on 250 has free wifi. I know alot of employees are in there Tues and Thurs. Nights.

Witches Wheel has a 54 inch height requirement, I don't care if your child rode Dragster, Magnum or, Millenium, they are not tall enough for this one!

I heard a few months ago that the CP wifi has already spread out some so we should be good. I would go to the library for wifi during halloweekends.

Panera Bread is awesome, most of them have wi-fi. Just thought I'd mention that...

If you are ever in Mooresville, NC, stop by the Panera Bread on Williamson Road for their free wifi. You might even see a NASCAR driver as they come every so often.

Nothing like being able to turn a phone into a wifi hotspot. Works wonders :)
