Wicked Twister Down Alot

Is it just me, but looking at the webcam this morning it appears that the black piece on the back support seems even larger than before! It appears to run approx. 1/2 of the way of the tower above the support (although it might be a shadow). Just curious? Anyways it better be open next Tuesday because Im making a special trek to CP (I missed it earlier when it had its "electrical" issues in early June). If not I guess MF will do for the day : )
Amen to that Gemini Joe! I'm going Tuesday too! It better be open, I don't get to go to Cedar Point but once a year. If it doesn't open on Tuesday, I will still have Wednesday to hope for it though.

HMM....What is that on the Rear Spike??...is it just a shadow or that Brace or watever...Does anybody know what it is?

Some of it is a brace type of thing. On Wednesday when I was there it appeared as if they had welded a metal support just above the last support beam, but it appears they have now made the brace even bigger.
seems to me that the problem is more serious than we first thought....apparently we have a design problem...

Is that in your expert engineering opinion?

It's probably a brace of some sort. Even standing underneath it was tough to make out what it is.

Intresting that they moved the Beachcam Slightly down so the WT is out of view...No point in it really...

Allow me oh mighty webmaster, to rephrase my sentence so that I don't sound like a know it all like some people.....

perhaps there could be a design problem? I really don't know anything about engineering, I guess the engineers, such as Jeff could answer the question, so Jeff, what exactly, in precise engineering terms is wrong with WT?

it was an opinion that I thought maybe they designed the tolerance wrong...

Dude... don't get in my face. I'm not the one who claimed it was a design problem.

oh god..
I don't really think it's worth arguing over, but it seems pretty clear that nomatter what the cause is (design, construction, etc - no one here really knows), Wicked Twister has some issues. Sorry, but I'm not buying the "electrical" explanation. There might be electrical problems, but I bet there's more to it than that. I know that rides crack now and then, but to see them welding in the same area day after day is getting a bit disturbing - even to me! :)

But the thing is, no one here knows precisely what is allegedly being welded. Ever think it could be the maintenance platform itself? The brackets for the prox switches? It could be anything.

I was under the impression that the work on the back spike was also related to the electrical problems, but I doubt that CP would say otherwise to someone they know is on coaster boards.

But I DO trust CP to not let anyone ride if it wasn't safe. That would be the last thing they'd do...take chances, especially considering they removed Vertigo.

The Work on the rear spike can't really be from the electrical problems...because there is no electric stuff up there...all it is is Track...So its most likely something is wrong with the Track up there.

Wrong... there are proximity switches up there as well as the maintenance platform.

Jeff...can you explain to me what Proximity Switches Do?

as for the maintenece platform...I don't think they would be working on it, While Standing on it. So its either the Proximity switches as Jeff said...or The Track...Any other Ideas???

It is a little far-fetched, but could they be wielding the supports?? Maybe the ride's supports were not engineered correctly Jeff? Is that possible? I bet it is the proximity switches though as jeff said. I hope intamin can work this out

Why are you asking me if it's possible? I'm not an engineer. With all of the fancy computers they have to virtually test every bit of ride dynamic there is, I doubt very much there's a design issue.

A prox switch senses proximity of an object, namely a train. Those little green things you see all over coaster track are prox switches. They tell the computer, "Hey, there's something here!"

The ones on WT aren't green, and I have a close-up photo, but it's from a forbidden off-season construction tour, so I can't show you. You lose.

O i see.....but...Just how big are they???...that they would need some serious welding....The welding goes on for long periods of time...and is on very often now.
